@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Guys, I have a question:

I'd really like to get "Renegade" or "Target: Renegade" but I read the MS version is supposedly vastly superior to the NES one.
Problem: I've never ever seen it for sale. Does it really exist?

Granted, I don't check eBay too often since I much rather buy within communities and forums, but considering I've been on the lookout for it for what?....three years now? I think it should've popped up at least once.
Really strange.

Yes, but if you never played it, wouldn't you still be curious about it? :)

I know I have problems, though, because I want to play all the mini-game/hidden shootemups found in games, too.

Like, in Somer Assault/Mesopotamia, there is a hidden game.

I believe they're the same game, actually. Sometimes it's called "Renegade" and sometimes "Target: Renegade".

And wow, it's on eBay indeed. It wasn't when I last looked, but that was a while ago. Still hoping I'll find it on some forum someday but it's good to know that they do appear on eBay from time to time. Thanks!

PCEngineHell

No. They are two different games. Renegade on MS is a enhanced port of the original arcade game. Target, on Nes and Euro computers is just a eurotrash sequel.

Seriously? Wow....gotta get them both then!! :)
Awesome!

Oh, I was ever since I saw the placard at TRU bitd. Of course "Transbot" and "Transformers" was on my mind, the fact that  it mentions transformations on the back of the box had me. I only picked it up a few years ago to quench my intrigue, but alas...repetitive game play, timed special weapons and the weapon roulette?! Reminded my of the Macross game on FC.

Ha! I have a Macross game for Famicom (repetitive).

But, there is some other, better mech game, around same vintage as the Macross game...you can walk on land, fly as jet, etc.

Anyway, TransBot is nothing special...but I'm not getting rid of it.

If you have a CRT still (and you should!) the 3D games are worth it. The effect is really good and for the shooter Blade Eagle 3D it adds another element since you can play in either the foreground or the background that only the 3D can reveal. Real underrated game, and pretty much all the 3D games (Space Harrier, OutRun, Missile Defense, Maze Hunter) are all a ton of fun.

Transbot was the greatest con ever. I remember my brother buying it with his birthday money for £25 from wh smith in Ilford, Essex, England. Cartridge version. remember it vividly to this day. Getting it home doing the overworkd, underworld and then the robot boss.
Then it just started over.
THAT WAS IT
Oh and that music repeating over and over.
In short transbot isn't worth my left jacket potato.

I got the game for a few dollars (video store was getting rid of it). I would have been very upset paying $$$ for TransBot!

Yeah I mean if I saw it for like $4-5 shipped I'd buy it for the fuck of it. But people want like $13 on up or some crap. There are way too many better games I can get at that asking price.

^ Yeah, I had no idea it was that much. I thought it was $2-5 complete+shipped.

I have a TransBot that I'd be willing to price down pretty cheap if anyone want to buy a whole setup. I'd like to sell this Master System, and a game or two with it is the best way to do so, but of what I have, I only want to sell 2: TransBot and The Ninja.

The Dreamcast is still alive, so go play it before it kills your family!

I almost wouldn't mind picking up another system in a buy or trade to have a spare around. I had actually intended to eventually pick up a SMS 2 deck just to have in fact, but if the right deal came along, I'd def grab a spare SMS1.

I was recently playing Altered Beast on SMS, as I have never played the game before (yes, I am being serious:). Despite the fact that it plays bad I am really enjoying it. Cool sprites and overall atmosphere. I imagine that if I had the genesis version I wouldn't even bother mentioning it -but- if you have never played it and you dont have a genesis it is worth it in my opinion.

Double dragon: having played the arcade(which is awesome), the nes version(which plays good!) and the sms version I will say that the sms version reminds me a lot of the arcade version. And that is a plus. It is much harder than the nes version. Recommended.

Alex kidd in shinobi world, cute game, plays great. It is the only alex kidd I have ever played so I cant compare it to its predecessors but I really enjoy it.

And last but not least, dragonlance: heroes of the lance ad&d etc. I have just ordered this game as I have really fond memories. The detail of the gameplay is very deep, the graphics are great but it was hard and there was no save damn it... Absolutely recommended.

Related to the Ultima IV debate: there is a great version of the game in the link that follows for all the C64 owners: http://www.indieretronews.com/2015/03/ultima-iv-remastered-now-available-for.html

The game is legendary, I can play it forever.

I went on a big SMS kick a few years ago, mainly some of the PAL titles since, even though seeing SMS games in my area was very rare, I wanted to try out some stuff that was released in Europe where the console was quite successful.

If you are going to look for PAL games and cannot find any locally and have to resort to Ebay, I recommend doing worldwide searches and buying from European or Australian sellers.
Some of these have already been mentioned, but here's my two cents:
Asterix Series:
- Asterix
- Asterix and the Great Rescue
- Asterix and the Secret Mission
*The Asterix titles are all solid platformers.
The Disney Games:
- Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse
- Land of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse
- Donald Duck's Lucky Dime Caper
- Deep Duck Trouble starring Donald Duck
They are not as good as the NES Capcom Disney games, but they are solid, straightforward platformers if that is something you enjoy.
- Master of Darkness
A great Castlevania style game. Not as fun as the original Castlevania, but a solid title nonetheless.
- Ninja Gaiden
It's cool because it is not like the NES or PCE versions. The level layouts and bosses are different. I'm not the biggest fan of the SMS controller, but the controls in this game work surprisingly well. Having the pause button on the console will become a big bother in this game when you want to quickly pause the game to access the situation you are in.
Sonic Games
- Sonic 1
- Sonic 2
- Sonic Chaos

I was never really impressed by the "speed" aspect of the Sonic games on the Genesis. It just didn't appeal to me. I actually prefer these versions because there's more emphasis on platforming and correctly timing your jumps. Sonic Chaos is a little too easy though if you don't pay attention to getting. The hangliding parts of Sonic 2 are pretty cool.

And of course there's always any of the Wonder Boy series games.

Elder

My favs are the Wonder Boy games and Phantasy Star.  I absolutely adored those games.

I need to post what all I ended up settling with on the system. I ended up getting like 40 games or so. I will probably pick up a few more down the road, but decided to switch my focus to other systems like Nes for the time being.

I had a classmate/friend that had a Master System back during elementary school, and when possible I'd try to come over to get to play TransBot since the shooter genre is my favorite next to RPGs.
EDIT: While I see the negative posts on it, I'd still recommend it, but not if the price has gone crazy or something. I enjoyed it for what it was.

I might have mentioned this earlier, but my favorite thing about the SMS is that the ratio of good to bad/sports games is very favorable.  It's a great system to collect for, because there's a limited library (114 US games), the games all came in hard cases that have been preserved well over time (and that have a mostly-uniform look that shows well on a shelf), and it has a fun variety of genres (while the PCE might be shooter heavy, the SMS has good games for virtually every game type).  The other great thing about the SMS is that the good games are relatively inexpensive, while the bad ones usually command the most (Smurfs 2, James Buster Douglas Boxing, Great Ice Hockey).  On the NES it's the opposite - the good games everyone wants are often expensive, like the Mega Man or Dragon Warrior games, or for guys like us, Bonk's Adventure.  Add in all the fun options like the dual formats, light gun games, paddle controller, 3D glasses, etc. and it's just such a charming little system.
