10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

I've been working on it a long time, but it's finally ready for sale!
This is thesteve's region mod circuit on a pcb I designed to make it super easy to install on the US tg16 console, does not work on any other NEC console, does not work on the PAL tg16.
It's as easy as solder down, cut the 8 pcb traces, run 3 wires to a switch, and mount the switch somewhere on the console shell.

There is an option to buy the kit with wire and switch or pcb only in the little drop down box.
Shipping is only set up for US and Canada, but that should be the only countries interested in this kit.
I only have pri mail for US and economy for Canada for now.

I don't think it will help that.  The problem is with the Turbo motherboard, not the region.

I guess I mean the "revised" TED - that I am waiting for, which is supposed to fix compatibility with TG16.

Neat board for sure.  Unfortunate that it costs nearly 70% more than the last boards we made.  I guess it includes a switch.

Yeah $10 more to save a lot of time and effort. Most of that was fab and assembly costs...
BTW how did you test each board you sold?

BlueBMW

We didn't other than a visual check of all the solder joints.  I dont know that we ever had a defect though and we sold quite a few boards.  Are you having them assembled by the board maker or are you doing them yourself?  We were assembling them by hand due to the low volume.

You're welcome to price them however you want, I just wish they were a little less ;)  When I came to our pricing I factored in the cost of the boards and components, the assembly time and then shipping / packaging costs.  There was maybe $6 profit in them if I remember right.  I shared that with thesteve since it was his design basically.  Our goal wasn't really profit so much as offering an easier way to mod consoles or offer modding service.  Before it was either breadboard a couple of multiplexers or locate an 8PDT pushbutton switch.

I had them assembled, costs more, but end up with much nicer product. Being only 2 components they could have been done by hand, but I wanted to try having the fab do it and I think it was worth it.

BlueBMW

Looks like you are using a smaller package size so assembling those by hand would have been a little more difficult.  Though at that point it would probably be worth using an infrared oven or similar.

Thats cool, so are you giving him a share of the cut since you are using his circuit design? Would be nice to see you give him his due somehow I suppose if you're using the one he designed...
