I finally sat down and played this through today (no cheating, just online maps as a guide). Its not as bad as everyone thinks it is, just takes forever to get going. Once you start getting the hyper equipment it becomes significantly easier. Took me about 6 hours to do it and boy the ending is about as great as I thought it would be. lol What are your guy's thoughts? Has anyone else played more than 20 minutes of this game? I suppose I should post some pics of the deed...

it gets beat on pretty heavily as a terrible game, but there is certainly worse (much!).
it has almost become a thing of lore at this point.  people just identify it as "the worst nes game" because they read it someplace.  and if they try it, they automatically think its the worst game and already set that expectation in their minds.

NightWolve

I rented and beat it as a kid. I liked it, for the challenge at least.

I can honestly say it tops the shit pile of my NES experience as a kid. We had a friend that owned a VHS rental store, and he would let us take one game at a time for however long we wanted.

Deadly towers was one of those games. We were into D&D and fantasy, so the the cover art was a dead ringer for us. The game was utter shit, and we hated it.

When AVGN started up, I couldn't believe it took him so long to get to Deadly Towers.

The other POS we got from that store was Hyde Lyde. It was shit, but just seemed too hard/unfair, but seemed like a real game. Deadly Towers just felt like a joke.

I think I remember hating Hydlide (if that's how you spell it), I'll second that.

The sequels are better. Not sure if I can stomach that godawful Indiana Jonesish music over and over again, but might attempt to finish that one someday too. :)

CrackTiger

I loved the challenge and feeling of accomplishment while finishing it bitd. I'd rather play an unbalanced rpg/adventure/non-linear game than mediocre even games from other genres.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

I never played much of this game.

One of these days* I'll get to it.

Played it as a kid. Hated it. I will say it's not the worst NES game I've played, as I also played Total Recall. It's definitely better than that.
Feel like a treasure game on a rainy day.

esadajr

For me it was one of those "my weekend is now ruined" kinda game. Played it once, never played it again.
Gaming since 1985

Arkhan Asylum

HYDLIDE IS BETTTTERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

It's misleading garbage.   Look how cool the box art is compared to the game.

When I finally got that game after years, I popped it in and went

"what the fuck"

and then I played Crystalis.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!
