12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

What's the difference? Super CD Rom2 or Duo-R

Hi all! I'm new around these parts, please be gentle. I recently won a Core Grafx-II at auction for relatively cheap, it works great and I'm now waiting on my Turbo Everdrive. That doesn't play CDs though...

So, should I get a Duo then sell the Core Grafx, or get a Super CD Rom2. I know going with the Duo is likely to be cheaper, but is there any benefit to using the Super CD-Rom2 instead?

If you have a Super CD-ROM, then you could replace your CoreGrafx II in the future with a SuperGrafx and still play CD games.

Of course, if you got a Duo instead and then later got a SuperGrafx, it would be the same difference unless you have mods done to any of the hardware.

Duos are the most convenient and have the smallest footprint.

Does not compute...SELL? a piece of obey?! The Core is such a cool piece of hardware! I say keep the Core, hell buy a Core I along with a Shuttle, "Briefcase" and a few Duo's. Of course you'll need to get all the matching pads.

Well, that's just me. Lot of good on HuCard to play so you're not dead in the water, especially with the TED coming in. I always recommend a Duo because it just so damn sexy.

Other than the SGX possibilities mentioned by Black Tiger, there's no advantage to a Super CD over a Duo.  They're not cheaper, more reliable, or otherwise more functional.

i would say a Super CD is cheaper, more reliable, and otherwise more functional.

The standard Duo has a CD door lock, an earphone jack with volume dial, plus rechargeable battery pack, car power adapter and monitor accessories.

All Duos have HuCard slot covers to prevent dust from getting in.

Keep the coregrafx and leave the TED on it. Get a Duo-R and an Arcade card then leave the arcade card on it.

So no difference in visual or auditory fidelity then, or ability to read CD-Rs?

I'll probably pick up a Duo-R at some point if that's the case. The white matches the CRT I have for retro consoles.

The Duo-R and Duo-RX are said to have much better CDs that doesn't break so easily. And they are better for reading CD-Rs too. The original Duo and the stand-alone CD units seems to have problems with capacitors and the plastic cogwheels. Duo-R/RX apparently uses higher quality caps and cogwheels.

I never had any problems with my Duo-R CD unit anyway, it reads all my CD-Rs too.
