Crossword help!

Hey guys. I'm struggling with a crossword puzzle that I've been working on for the past couple weeks. I just want to know:

What kind of a word that begins with a "w" and ends with a "p"?

CLUE: Nerd Kin

This is a down facing word. It's 4 letters.

See, that's what I thought too...but apparently it doesn't look that way.

Here are the intersecting words that I have:

46 Across: WON CLUE: South Korean Currency --> top letter
48 Across: ALLA(?)NTHEREINS CLUE: Take control --> Second from top letter
51 Across: LOC(?) CLUE: Nursery Buy, Perhaps --> Second from bottom letter
55 Across: PARKPLACE CLUE: Monopoly Property --> bottom letter

48 and 51 across are the ones I'm struggling the most with.

Are you 100% certain about the C? If not, then LOAM fits nicely.

I am certain that it is a "C" because 49 down that intersects with 51 across is ACKER

49 Down CLUE: Los Angeles hoopster

It is a 5 letter word. Other intersecting words are:

55 Across ---> PARKPLACE CLUE: Monopoly property
60 Across ---> ODIE CLUE: Jon Arbuckle's pooch
63 Across ---> DEER CLUE: Critter with a scut

And to reiterate, 48 across is presumably ALLA(?)NTHEREINS

LA hoopster should be laker- not acker- which puts that A in for LOAM.

I don't know what the heck this one is. The only thing I can think of that fits (and makes a modicum of sense) is ATTAIN THE REINS, but then both of your Ls would have to be incorrect.

Sure. Here are the words that intersect with 48 across.

38 Down --> AMA CLUE: Fuse word
39 Down --> ROLLADE CLUE: Tubular meat dish
40 Down --> CALORIE CLUE: Kind of counter

So, I don't know where "ATTAIN" in "ATTAINTHEREINS" is gonna fit if it looks like "ALLLINTHEREINS.

The extra "L" is for "LAKER" for 49 Down.

Oops, I apparently suck at counting. With the two modifications above, it changes to PULL IN THE REINS.

Aha! It is PULLINTHEREINS and 39 down really is ROULADE. Other reference sites I've seen listed 39 down as "Rollade".

That solved it! Thanks guys!

I'll bump the thread if I've got any more problems.

Make sure you have a little memo pad to carry around with you or have some scrap paper handy when you work on your puzzles. If you're stumped, try different paths into seeing which number placements work the best. Some of the more harder puzzles can take up to 10 attempts before you'll solve them. It's all about process of elimination.
