Quote from: JoshTurboTrollX-16 on 06/14/2010, 04:49 PMAll set and ready to jet!! We'll be at the show!

And we signed up for the after party!!  w00!!!

In comparison, how big is this show compared to other 'classic gaming shows'?  Like MGC.
Lovin' the enthusiasm Turbostar!! Weren't you the guy who did Turbo Fest with Keranu in prior years at the MGC?

Compared to the Midwest Gaming Classic, the Video Game Summit is much smaller. If you attended MGC last year, it is about 35-40% the size of main floor where people were selling games. This will be my first year attending as a staff member.

It sucks that my Duo all of sudden lost its sound. I don't think I will be able to fix it in time for the show since I lack the techinical expertise, soldering tools and gamebit. I've read the repair thread on this site, but still.. At least I have my T-16 + CD, not exactly the most portable system LOL.

Lots of cool events planned for Turbo Fest and the rest of the VGS.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please let me know. I hope I can bring Turbo Fest back to its former glory.  :)

Do you have the address for the Convention Center? I tried to find it in MapQuest but only got other locations in Lombard.

The address is 665 W. North Ave. in Lombard, Illinois. It is the sister building to the Fairfield Inn. It is right behind the hotel. If for some reason, you can't find it, just go to the lobby of the fairfield inn and they'll tell you where the Heron Point Convention Center is.

I am not sure if we will be moved by July 17th, but if there is one next year, we will be there. :)
Turbo Badass Rank: Janne (6 of 12 clears)
Conquered so far: Sinistron, Violent Soldier, Tatsujin, Super Raiden, Shape Shifter, Rayxanber II

Cool, thanks!!  I've been attending MGC since about 2004, and I've seen it grow from a small gathering to what it has become now.  I'm seriously stoked to see the VGS!!

Check out this cool poster for the VGS. (Make sure you are logged in to see it).

Hey guys, we are about one week away from the show (July 17th). It's not like the big retro conventions such as the Midwest Gaming Classic, but if you lower your expectations accordingly, you will have a great time. Lots of cool tournaments planned.

If you guys do go, make sure you stop by at my Turbo Fest booth.

 :)

Roy The Sunderer

Hi Chany. I'm itching to check this thing out, it sounds like it will be a good time. See you there!

Totally stoked to see the show!!  three more days!! huzzah!!  I am bringing my TG16 and CD system, do you think someone will have an AC adapter for the power base unit.  I still have never tested out my CD unit to see if it even works!! lol-

My son is very interested in playing in the R-Type tournament!  Got mah kids interested in the Turbo!  Priceless!!

Hey Turbo Star, you are more than welcome to bring along your T-16+CD. In fact, that is what i'll be using. I was also going to bring along my Duo, but the sound went bad on me at the last second.. I need to find someone on this forum to repair it for me.

We can test your system any time in between tournaments:
Here is just a recap of the tournament times:

Battle Lode Runner: 12 PM
Bomberman 94: 2 PM
R-Type: 4 PM

See ya there!!

DragonmasterDan

Great meeting everyone today, and sorry for being so damn talky!

Overall, Turbo Fest was a great success. The turnout was much better than last year's convention. The people naturally gravitated to our booth since many of of the members of a website that I moderate decided to accompany me. Thanks to DragonmasterDan, I was able to give my T-16+CD unit breaks by using the DUO he brought along.

Battle Lode Runner was tons of fun as the concept of the game is very easy to understand. It took a bit for people to figure what each power up did. It was an intense match, especially five people on screen.

The five-player Bomberman 94 matches were fun as five human players were facing off in each round. Even though we got our behinds kicked by a 12-year old, we still enjoyed every minute of it.

In the R-Type tournament, hardly anybody was able to get past the first level (without using continues). 12 people signed for this tournament, and it took less than 25 mins for it to be over. LOL. Although one person almost beat the third level, hence, his score was twice as much as the second place winner.

One of my buddies created an arcade stick for the T-16 that was out of this world. It had buttons on the side so that you could enjoy some mad pinball action. It played beautifully with Devil's Crush. Pics of it are posted earlier on in this thread.

Here is a link to some of the pictures of Turbo Fest and a few others of the convention in general.

Bigger plans are in store for Turbo Fest next year. I would like to take this event back on tour to the Midwest Gaming Classic, perhaps with the help of others. I will keep you guys posted in the months to follow.

Thanks to all who came out to support Turbo Fest / Video Game Summit ie Dragonmasterdan, Turbostar, Roy The Sunderer, and a couple more I know I am forgetting.

Roy The Sunderer

Good times! It was cool meeting Chany, Turbostar and Dan, among others. I totally choked during the R-Type tournament, go figure- I can do all right at home... Bomberman '94 was a lot of fun. I'm new to the Bomberman games and although Bomberman and Bomberman '93 are cool as single player games, it's a blast with 4 other human players. Plus, I got the opportunity to play Magical Chase and some other games I hadn't played before. Good stuff.
Geico saved 15% by switching to Chuck Norris.

turbo fest was a great time, i just wish i could have been there earlier to be in more of the tournaments.  It was cool meeting some of the people on this forum and always fun spending warm summer days indoors with the turbo :)

Hey Hey!!

Had a blast Saturday at VGS- I should have pix and vids up soon of the event.  It was killer meeting Chany, Dan, and Roy, as well as others that I'm not sure are members of the forums.. lol

I'll be better prepare for next years battle load runner tourney!!  I shall get my revenge!! HAR HAR!!

Keranu u totally should show up next year!!  We were passing around ideas on doing turboFest next year at both VGS 2k11 and MGC 2011.  I think it would be kick ass to take the show on a 'mini tour' LOL TURBOFEST TOUR 2011!!

The main attraction of the show was definitely turbofest.  Chany had a cloud of people around the lil turbografx and duo the entire show.  Yes, even more than the Atari 7800 dude breaking world records streaming live on ustream!  (Which I thought was insanely cool)

Turbo Fest ruled!  Can't wait to meet up again for some turbo gaming.  I'm gonna bust my butt and pick up a Duo-R sometime between now and MGC next year so we can get more systems and TV's for showing off the awesomeness.

PS- What was the name of the gent that won the R-Type tournament?  And is he a member of these forums?  As luck would have it, while wondering around downtown chicago we actually ran into him and he got my family a great GREAT special discount!!  I call it a Turbo Discount!  LOL- anyway, just want to shout out to him that he is insanely cool.

take carez all-

Hey guys- I think the R-Type winner's name was Josh. The Turbo table was definitely the area with the most traffic. People tend to gravitate toward the cool stuff...

It's kind of funny how the show was mostly Atari themed, yet the little toaster that could (NEC) in the back corner, stole the show. Everything worked out far better than expected. With 2 or 3 tournies happening at the same time, it was hard to predict how many would show up to my booth for my tournies. Fortunately, us Turbo guys always stick together. :)

We should definitely start planning Turbo Fest 2K11. The feedback I got from this Turbo Fest really got me pumped up!!

The winner of the R-Type tourney was indeed a member of this forum. Congrats to him, he really put on a good show for us.

all of the above- the dude that owns them buys pretty much everything that he can get his hands on Lynx related.  I'm not even sure what his name is (Lynx guy), but his son (Kevin) and my boys get along pretty well.  We meet up every year at MGC and the kids play pretty hard!

Yeah I don't know his name either, but I talk to him whenever I'm at the MGC and he's really cool. He's gotta have the biggest Lynx collection, even though he says he's not sure. The Lynx table has always been one of my favorite attractions.

The dude's pretty hardcore, eh?  The Little Handheld That Could has some lovely gems and a pretty healthy homebrew scene, so he picked a good system to champion.

Ok, so early planning for TF 2k11 is underway.  Looking at possibly doing The video Game summit again AND Midwest Gaming Classic in March.  Would anyone be willing to help out?

By helping out, really we'd just need people to come in and play games with people that maybe aren't familiar with the Turbo World.  Could also bring in systems/ TVs/ games/ etc for play during the event.

PM's to myself, DragonMasterDan, Chany60126, or Keranu if your interested.
