Be sure to download Sonic Mania and Blaster Master Zero. Both games are wonderful. BMZ has my favorite soundtrack of this whole year, and this goes even more for the tunes that are unique to this release and not the original.

Rockin. Did you use an old PCE case or a new blank? I have had trouble sourcing thick, high-quality blank cases lately.

This clear is sponsored by Bernie.

'Tis an interesting comic with violent, gory action and some of the best looking cut scenes (when using the Arcade Card).  If you're a real baller, pay a bit more and get the version with the VHS pack in.... or just watch the short video on youtube.

The Good: fancy, animated intro and short cut scenes sprinkled throughout; colorful, detailed, and often changing backgrounds; tons of voice dialogue, which is presumably a good thing when you comprehend what they're saying; handy save file utility that lets you view (and delete) saved games and how much room each uses; and it's not entirely linear for better replayability.

The Bad: lengthy load at boot to fill the Arcade Card, which is understandable and expected, but there are other areas where it annoyingly loads every few seconds; mostly elevator music bgm, though the redbook versions played in the intro and credits are nice; as nice as the backgrounds look, they're sadly mostly static; and the maze portion looks good but there's not much to do.

The Ugly: Annoying pounding sound in intro animation and once again towards the end.  WTF is that shit?  It can't be intentional, but how did they miss it during play testing?!?
Necro quote here (no pun intended)

Does anyone know what the menus in this game translate to in English?

Back in my RIGG days, we had a member that went by 'docfu' who also was the victim of a motorcycle accident... His case was a little bit more atypical than what usually happens suffice to say. A turkey either flew off a tree or the road, landing on him during one of his rides out in the country or wherever it was... He posted a photo in aftermath:

IMG

Well, he walked away from it at least, so knock on wood. ;)
That looks awful! Glad he made.

I am feeling a bit better today though typing with my shoulder is still a chore. It's just an awkward position. Though I can still game 100%. :D

I am going to be off work for a while being bored out of my mind and I saw a member here had a Thunderforce V that I've been wanting. Just being up front about it since your generosity has really given me a nice cushion that my poor ass otherwise wouldn't have.

I need to also give a shout-out to bartre who sent me some free obey. Thanks my friend.

General Gaming / Retro VGS Game Console
03/28/2015, 10:00 PM
I'm not sure when this was officially announced but Micheal Katz and Retro Magazine appear to be working on a new cartridge based games console. A detail that bludgeoned me aside the head was the the system's shell is going to be directly based on the Atari Jaguar! I can only hope that they design some sort of dust protector for the cart slot.

A Kickstarter campaign will be announced soon if anyone wants to help out. I'm pretty excited personally. The idea behind it is since the industry is moving away from physical releases this system will cater to those of us who enjoy having a box, cart and manual. Here's a link to more info:

Quote from: Keranu on 04/08/2009, 04:31 PMWow, I always remember the TG16 Aero Blasters looking a little better than the Genesis, but these screenshots are making me think the opposite.

Tom, those Forgotten World screenshots are very interesting. I think the converted PCE pal screenshot has nicer shading than the arcade!
A while back when Tatsujin started a thread about SFII port resolutions, I made some regular sized Forgotten Worlds screen shots, including the arcade colored with PCE palette colors.

The left image is the regular arcade, the right is the arcade in PCE color-

IMGIMG

The PCE pallete sure loves CPS games. :D Too bad more developers didn't take advantage. I think that most of the sprites in the game were transferred pixel for pixel, making them even bigger on screen than in the arcade. If having CPS arcade sized sprites against backgrounds like these means a little flicker, I'll gladly take it over an average 16-bit console port.

The game still runs at a higher resolution than the regular resolution of every Genesis and SNES game while maintaining a high level of shading and detail. This combo is a real strength that the PCE has over the other consoles and should have happened in more games, especially non-sprite intensive stuff like RPGs. It still wouldn't have taken much to add some layered scrolling in places, but it always seems that every PCE developer only knew how to do some things, but none knew how to do them all. But with sampled sfx and CD music, layered bgs really are the only element missing aesthetically.

Here is the regular arcade and PCE screens lined up-

IMG

I like the changes they made with the coloring, but like the blue highlights on the bg should have been kept.

The Genesis version still has nice graphics and was very impressive and really fun when it came out. It was one of my favorite early Genesis games.
I wish this post still had the pics. I didn't get a good chance to examine them back then in '09.

Quote from: JKM on 11/15/2013, 10:26 AMI mean, if I want the full blown Genesis experience I'll grab my model 1 Genesis and Sega CD, find all the cables, plug everything in, grab a stack of genesis carts and go to town. If I just want a quick game of Sonic or Gunstar Heroes I'll just plug the little model 2 up and stick the flash cart in.
That's one reason I was looking into the Retron5, at least until I have the space to have all the systems out. As it is, during the week, it's a bit of a hassle to go hookup, etc, etc, etc. That's when the tablet and the Six Axis come into play :D

It's a GREAT time to be a gamer!
The only problem I see with the Retron-5 is being forced to use anything but HDMI. CRTs are out. :(
It has A/V outputs
IMG
That's awesome! This must have changed. When showing the system at MGC, and in an interview with Retro Gamer, the creator stated that the system was the be HDMI only. He must have listened to all the belly-aching feedback. Kudos.

Quote from: jeffhlewis on 11/07/2013, 06:37 PMCouple pickups in the past 2 weeks:

1.) Ninja Gaiden, CIB for the Sega Master System. Got a shockingly good price for this one - thank you eBay alerts

2.) The rare-ish re-release version of Phantasy Star, CIB (if your version has the battery backup memory text in green in the top right, yours is too; the original release didn't have it).

That leaves me with just the blue cart version of Rambo to have the full NTSC set + the variants, which I whiffed on once a year ago at auction and haven't seen it since...

3.) Longbox NFL Gameday for the PS1 for a buck at Goodwill, also CIB. God, this game is awful but I couldn't resist.
