OH NO!!!! This is a terrible day for Bomberman. :(

Dark Fact

He actually looks closer to his NES boxart version now!

Sorry, but I don't see your library card on the books of Ys.  Now, RETURN THEM TO ME!!!

GUTS

They should update the game engine to something like God of War if they're going to redesign the character, the new character just looks totally out of place with the old style gameplay.  I know it's blasphemy but I've never liked the bomberman games, they get boring SO fast, I'd be halfway excited if this new one was like Devil May cry or God of War.

Dark Fact

Actually, the Bomberman games are a huge blast (no pun intended) in multiplayer mode! You ought to get some of your buddies together and have a tournament! You'd be surprised how addicting it can become!

CrackTiger

Jesus Christ.

They should give it a new name if they're going to redo the characters so drastically, something more sci-fi'y, like Atomic Punk.

Still, an adult-er Bomberman for 360 is fine by me, as long as its still fun.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Indeed! Indeed! This is a sad, sad day. Seriously, this should be a spin-off of the Bomberman franchise (CrackTiger suggested "Atomic Punk"... I'll add "Bomberman Dark" to the list), so it can branch-off.

As for Bomberman... I really like the gameplay, even the single-player story modes (I can see GUTS cringing!). I don't play single-player Bomberman games hours on end, or every day, so it doesn't get too tedious or boring for me.

And I'll never get sick of 5-player Bomberman (though I've only managed to  get 3-4 player games going in the past few years... due to a lack of friends who like Bomberman). :)

Yeah, I also like the single player game, although I've never gotten into a non-Turbo/PCE Bomberman other than Saturn Bomberman.

Actually I'll amend that, I forgot that Super Bomberman 2 on SNES actually had a really good one player mode.  I completely forgot about beating that one back in the day, it was totally rad.  Never liked any of the other ones though, even the Saturn one didn't do it for me.

CrackTiger

I like the "First Person Bommer" tagline.  :)

Seldane

Whoa, this is bizarre. Sure, I've never really liked Bomberman, but this is outrageous!

I mean.... Bomberman for Xbox 360!!

Hehehe, just kidding. I know, I know -- the game looks weird. Not like Bomberman at all. Another great reason to avoid the Xbox 360.
Quote from: Seldane on 04/21/2007, 07:28 PMDVDs are for suckers. Illegally pirated and stolen videos all the way. No menus. No "DO NOT PIRATE THIS!" screens. No fuss. Only perfection. I honestly only pirate movies because that "don't pirate this" screen annoys me.

Indeed, it's AV time. Check out: IMG! Sir, the door was open.

GUTS

I don't get how anyone can look at Oblivion and still want to avoid the 360.  Hell even if the 360 was called "The Elder Scrolls playing machine" I'd still buy one, that game is going to be incredible.

Ninja Spirit

Judging by the way that looks, it should've been a sequel to this game instead of Bomberman.

Robo Warrior (Bomber King in Japan), which basically is an action game that uses elements of the Bomberman gameplay engine. It should be obvious because Robo Warrior/Bomber King is really a Hudson game as well.

Keranu

Whoa, I might have to give that game a try.

Oh crap, back in the mid- to late- 90's I was grabbing a late-night snack in my SUPERMARKET and they had a big bin of reduced PC software. Lo and behold, there was a copy of Atomic Bomberman in there! Naturally, I snatched it up.

I honestly can't remember much about it (I still have it somewhere), but it wasn't nearly as fun as the console games. It supported multi-player... but through LAN? I only played single-player for a little bit -- I can't remember if there was a "quest" mode...

Anyone play this?
IMGIMG IMG  |  IMG  |  IMG IMG

esteban

Ha, I have a boxed mint copy of Bomber King (I am a Hudson fanboy who was curious about all their old games, what can I say?). Certainly not the greatest game, but I have gotten some enjoyment out of it. Not as close to Bomberman as I had hoped. I'll have to pick up Robo Warrior if only for the kool cover art :).
IMGIMG IMG  |  IMG  |  IMG IMG

Ninja Spirit

OMG! Speaking of Robo Warrior, I got one of those old NES Game tips videos, there's a walkthru of Robo Warrior from beginning to end, with a man's voice narrating the whole thing. Unfortunately it's been edited, they had to cut out portions of the video to save time.

IIRC you really have to depend on luck to get through this game, I only reached the final stage once but that was in the mid 1990's. Getting bombs is hard enough as

>using them all up on one screen and watching your player's life gradually fade,

>getting wound up in a boss battle with no bombs.

>Or trying to find your way out of the dark tunnel when you have no candles as you can't see the exit and what power ups you picked up!

But in the end that's what made it a fun game altogether.

OMG Bomber King!

I remember playing this game on my MSX computer 16 years ago. This game was hard (or maybe b/c I was 7 years old and every game seems tough). It sucks that I lost the cartridge when I moved to CA, I never got a chance to finish it.

I guess I'll pick-up the NES version someday since most MSX games are tough to find these days.

So I played the 360 version at E3 last week and...it wasn't good.  Even though they allow you to zoom in and out using the L and R triggers, it never allows you to zoom out far enough.  I wandered around a corner and into fire too many times because I couldn't see far enough to avoid it.

And the look is just cheesy.  There's no better way to describe it.  But beyond those two things, it actually feels like Bomberman; just in a very weird way.

Darn, I was hoping that this wouldn't play as bad as it looked. I'm curious about it, but I must admit that the aesthetics really turned me off and lowered my interest in the game...

I was actually a little more interested in the game since jleud posted, I think it's because he said "But beyond those two things, it actually feels like Bomberman; just in a very weird way." . Still, the problem he mentioned does suck and the style is scary.

In case any of you missed it on my site (how dare you), you may be interested in what could have been the 'original' Bomberman. It was called 'Eric and the Floaters' and was released on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum in 1983.

Sunteam, good stuff! A few years ago I started reading the old MySinclair / Zzzzzap / Spectrum / etc. magazines from the UK computing scene (thank goodness folks scanned them and put them online :) ). Prior to that, I didn't know anything about the computer / gaming scene over there in the 80's. I didn't know that Impossamole was connected to Monty Mole, for example!

Apparently the camera perspective is on purpose and to provide more "tension" or whatever.  But to me, that just means that you'll be walking into more bomb fire.  Also, you now have an energy meter, rather than dying right away.  Oh...and then there's Bomberwoman.

All in all, I'm much more excited for Bomberman Land for Wii than Act Zero.

Here's a picture I took of the Act Zero display in Konami's booth:

i'm still a little wary about this. i wish they'd just follow through with their thought of taking saturn bomberman to the xboxlive arcade. i do hope that they don't try to pull any strange shenanigans on the 360 version of Dungeon Explorer though.

Tatsujin

Even more poor than the old TurboGrafx-16 package!

Remember ?

Oh man, that's some good stuff!  I love cheesy old game covers like those.

SKYNET

They should of just get one of the original games and make it available on live arcade , these new versions of games are nearly always a waste of time look at final fight streetwise for example .

Tatsujin

anyway i do/can not understand why hudson spend so much effort in those new crappy softs! who is in charge of some kind of decision? the cover even doesn't looks like a japanese product anymore! and did you see the intro?!
and all those again warmed up new crappy reincarnations of pc genjin, takahashi meijin no bôkenjima etc also doesn't bring any of the flairs of the old so much loved originals back! it's just a shame! i hope they  strongly will rethink their product and sales strategies in their own future! not just for themselves, more for us gamer!

i assume this is because Japan is becoming a Niche market as games will sell much more if targetted at the western audiences, and they become a hit :(

anyway, gametrailers has some video of the game in progress, and aside from the artistic spin, the gameplay looks to be almost identical. there seems to be a way to still do the overheard view or something.

click here and scroll down to the gameplay section, which should be at the bottom.

the electric guitar-heavy music reminds me of Lords of Thunder.
