I just picked up a TG16 with the CD attachment and a system 1.0 card. I heard that I need a system 3.0 card to play Super CD games and that they run $100 to $150. Would a region mod and an import system 2 or 3 or arcade card allow me to play US super CD games?

Yes, if you get a region mod for your TG-16/CD combo, you can use the Japanese System Card 3.0 or Arcade Card Pro to play Super CD games (and Arcade Card games if you opt for the Arcade Card Pro).

You can also get an import converter that works with the 3.0 Card.  But they are hard to come by these days, can be expensive, and complicated.  I'm currently in the process of getting a converter to work with my System Card.  But I'm not successful thus far.

You might be able to get Keith Courage or Chop5 to mod your system so you can use the arcade card pro on it... Give them a PM and see what happens!
Edit: Or you can go this route:

Region mods are the way to go.  Much better than pricey yet finicky converter board things.

By the way, a TG-CD system card is a 2.x system card; there is no 1.0 card for North America.

I found this NEC PC ENGINE Hu card ARCADE CARD PRO (card only) Japan for CD-ROM2 B is this the right arcade card for the turbo cd add on? Will it play US CD, super cd, and arcade cards if I get a region mod? Is this a fair price? http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=291243580471

Thanks for the username of some members that might be able to help.

I do poorly with prices, but if I didn't have an arcade card and didn't care about the case I'd be all over that. Yes, that should play all CD games with a region mod.

For clarity: That card should let you play every variant of CD game on any hardware that will read the card. CD games are region free, but that card will only work with Japanese hardware, unless you get a region mod (do this) or adapter (don't really know).

EDIT2: Beat by NecroPhile by several hours.

WAIT, DISCLAIMER: Eh, I mean, every game you'd want to play. True 1.0 games will give you issues I guess, never tried. The number of games that applies to is stupidly low though and you probably don't care about them.

Actually you did the turbo express that I just got from James on Atari Age, the screen looks amazing! For some reason the first one wouldn't read any hucards, I think he is going to send it back to you.
