So I made this video. It could be helpful whenever new people join the fold as we always get the question..."what games should I buy?"
Yeah, Magical Chase isn't in there.

Nor is Nectaris.

Or Neutopia.

Cry me a river.

Wow this video is awesome.  Thank you for this.

DON'T EVEN.

I will forgive you if Blodia, at least, made the Top 50.

However, knowing you, Ys I & II was counted as TWO GAMES (if I had to guess, spot #1 and #2).

What?!!?  No New Zealand Story???  Or Mizubaku Daibouken??  (Not that I love them, but usually someone who (ahem., stereotypically) puts Rainbow Islands on a "best of" list usually puts the others on there as well.  Along with Chase H.Q.)

Round these 'ere parts, we folks don't cry; we bring out the pitchforks and oil up the torches.

Anyway, Momotaro Katsugeki can get lost from that list, and be replaced with the above or even other great games (Makyo Densetsu, one of the Dariuses, Salamander, L-Dis...).  MK is fun, but really is an introductory platformer along the same lines as Doraemon Dorabian.

Momotaro katsugeki is one of Paul's all-time favorites :P

It's worth keeping as a non-bad sequel to Keith courage. And I personally like it a lot more than the doraemon platformer.

I would replace rainbow islands with liquid kids. And parodius with legendary axe, just because parodius is best on the snes.

Overall, Nice video!

Helllllllll..........................

no it's fine.  I am glad to see parodius on that vid just for the sake that it's the first 8mbit card and to be honeset I never seen that many sprites, animations on a card game before konami brought that beast out on the pce.

Little sad Magical Chase didn't make the cut since I would place it higher than coryoon in the gameplay design.  Good list and good video.

NightWolve

A true tribute video by a lifelong fan, well done Paul. :)

Nazi NecroPhile

A nice list and all worth a look, but no Gotz?!?  You heathen!

The keener-eyed among you would notice that I intentionally did NOT entitle it '50 Best Games' or 'Top 50'.

Rather, it's a list of 50 great games on the system. I tried to keep it balanced but there are just too many worthy games on the PC Engine. I personally would have omitted a couple of titles in favour of others (Gunhed would have been dropped like a hot potato), but I took into account general fan opinion.

And Momotaro Katsugeki is only second best to PC Genjin. Alll other platformers can kiss its peachy behind.  O:)

Maybe I'll do another one sometime entitled '50 Pretty Good PC Engine Games You Should Probably Check  Out When You Have Time.'

this is a fun list! my one comment would be, if you have the time, to put game names and times into the description (or a comment below) to make it easy for folks to browse.

I did think of that but then decided with each clip being ~25 seconds long, and a whole channel and website with more complete information, there wasn't much point.

I particularly like that you have "easy to progress without japanese knowledge" as a bullet point in Dungeon Explorer's favor - because basically nobody can afford to get the tg-16 version anymore :P

crazydean

Wow, great vid. Thanks for posting.

Or maybe do '50 Worst PC Engine Games That You Should Never Play'?

Otaking

Great list, I love that Pop 'n Magic is in there.

When I ever see the relentlessly common thread "I'm a PC Engine noob recommend me some games" I'll post a link to this video.

Watched the whole thing and thought it was a good list!  I liked that you included a blurb about all the games you included.
Current want list:  Bomberman 93

Sarumaru

This is a rad video.  If someone asks me what some fun games on the system are, I'm just gonna link them to the vid. I also LOVE the factoids. I'm a fun facts/trivia kind of guy and really appreciate touches like that. Good job Sunshinepaul-san
