10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Random screenshot from my screensaver (shrunk).  Man I wish I could get this screensaver to play TG16 games!

It's been awhile since I've done one of these posts, so I'm pretty sure this is everything of note over the past couple months or so.

IMG

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics.  My real camera isn't at home right now.  Here are a few close up pics.

IMG

My Turbo Express has been away for some mod work for awhile so I've been looking into Game Boy / Color / Advance games to feed the handheld hunger.  Top right is Sigma Star Saga.  Below that is Monster Rancher Advance 2.  Below that is Bomberman Max 2: Blue. To the left is Advance Wars 2. And finally to the left of that is Mario Tennis.  I was hoping Mario Tennis would be one of the few GBC games that would run on the Super Game Boy, but it doesn't.

IMG

Above you can see my recent OBEY.  I have Splatterhouse on the way as well.  Woot!

IMG

Astro Warrior was included in my original Sega Master System bitd and I've had a hankering to play it again recently.  It hasn't disappointed.

IMG

I also found this Game Boy game at a local used-stuff shop.  It's fun.  Very old-school. :D

IMG

I have had a loose version of Ys III for awhile, but found this for $7 or $8 locally and couldn't pass it up.  And I sold the loose cart for $7 so yeehaa.

IMG

I picked this up this morning and have only played it for about half an hour this evening, but it seems like it'll be fun for awhile.

But seriously, put me down for one t-shirt (Adult, XL), whatever design you choose to go with.
It doesn't have to have my designs on it.
LOL!!!  I love all of the hilariousness that has come from the Blazing Lazers t-shirt idea!  When I initially posted it, I had NO IDEA there was a duck hidden there and it's awesome that it was pointed out to me (however, I see that duck whenever I play BL, which makes the game kind of absurd).

I will definitely make some sort of t-shirt based off of this design, if only so a handful of us can share an internal pcefx joke at conventions. :D

SeymorOnion, your second image is classic.  I may have to combine it with the color version of the BL duck, and maybe throw in the Alpha Suit for kicks. (thanks again for your flashcard - I've been playing with it a lot recently!)

I'm going out of town for a few days leaving tomorrow so someone needs to remind me on Monday to get cracking!

I KNOW!  It's pure brilliance. :P

So I've cleaned up a few areas and moved the shading levels around some today.

It's intentionally lighter right now because I ended up experimenting with my new Gocco printing system this afternoon.

I think you (and Ji-L87) have inspired me to doodle today!  I started working on a new t-shirt design: https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=10477.msg289689#msg289689 :)
#164
Alright, so the BL t-shirt idea didn't go anywhere (except into hilarity) but I started working on a new t-shirt design today and thought I'd share:

IMG

Actually I picked up a Gocco printing press today and really wanted to make a print for that, but it only prints about 4x6 and I haven't been able to come up with a good halftone configuration that will work with it (it's not really meant for halftone type of stuff, but I thought it would be neat).

I have a silkscreen kit begging to be used so hopefully sometime this week I'll get a t-shirt made!  :D

EDIT:  Why did I put this thread in the sales section?  Derp....
#165
I picked up a bead kit for my 5 yr old son today and we had all sorts of fun playing with it.  I ended up with this awesomely-mutated version of Bonk!

IMG

Sorry for the distant shot - It's really hard to make out close up. :)

The kit came with a square peg board that is only 14x14 which makes finding notable sprites an interesting experience.  I was going for the 1-Up version of Bonk seen in the lower right-hand corner of the screen, but somehow I mangled the left side of his face, and now it looks like he's hungry for brains to me. ZOMBIE BONK!

EDIT: Technically, I guess it's the RIGHT side of his face and the LEFT side of the bead-thingy. :P

Wow, Beemer, looks like you've got your work cut out for you.  Congrats on Battle Lode Runner!  That's one I'd love to add to my library. :)

These arrived in the mail yesterday from Hit-Japan:

IMG

I finally bit the bullet on the PCE version of Dungeon Explorer II because I just can't justify spending what the US goes for these days and I've been noticing the price of the PCE one going up.  Wanted to get it while it was still under $20.  Made it through the first boss last night, and while I have no idea what's going on, once the gameplay kicked in I had no problem figuring out where to go.  Hopefully I'll make it through a good chunk of the game before getting stuck and moving on...

I've been wanting to play Salamander for awhile.  Holy moly, it's so much more fun than Life Force on the NES.  I picked up Life Force for the NES a couple years ago because I remembered playing the crap out of it when I was in middle/high school.  Way harder than I remembered.  I haven't beaten the first level.  But I made it to level 3 on my first session with the PCE version.  So much better in so many ways.  Hit-Japan took a pretty reasonable offer for it (imo) so ended up getting this one for under $20 as well.

I'm stealing Galam's idea and have posted an image below.  Be the first to guess the game and you'll receive a little gaming goodie.

This one's probably on the easy side, but you never know. :D

I was playing this game the other day and while watching this cutscene, thought it would make a neat t-shirt.  I happened to have some gameplay recorded using my DVD recorder, so I grabbed a still, cleaned it up a bit and printed it out on one of those iron-on transfer sheets.  I picked up a t-shirt today from A. C. Moore for about $3.  I was really hoping to find a blue-grey that was a little lighter than this, but I think this turned out alright.

Anyway, anyone recognize the game?

Notice how nice Keith Courage's Drive looks next to the PC Engine.  I really need to whiten it now...
And here are a couple extra pics of it for good measure:

You can see the cover for the briefcase unit in the background in the picture above.  I forgot to take a picture of it closed up.  :?

Also, here are a couple other recent pickups. I received the latest edition of Battletech as a Christmas present and have begun to paint the 25 included minis.  I picked up the Warhammer books because they are a fantastic resource for painting miniatures (though not necessarily giant walking robots-of-death).

IMG

Here are a few games I also picked up at the local used-stuff store.  I wasn't really on the hunt for Secret of Evermore, but for $15 I couldn't pass it up.

Quote from: csgx1 on 12/22/2012, 06:44 PMI have a Arcade Duo card that seems to produce corrupt graphics with any arcade cd game.   I've tried numerous suggestions like pulling the card out partially, cleaning the contacts well and tape on the backside all with the same results.  Also tried on 4 different systems: 2 Duo Rs, 1 PCE Duo, and a SCD.

My Arcade Card Pro was doing that one day (for Sapphire only - other ACD games seemed to work fine) and I nearly had a heart attack.  I was using either a diving board converter or chopsado at the time, but I've region modded my consoles since and it hasn't come back (thankfully).  Are you using a converter of some sort?

On the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/NEOGEO-GOLD-Limited-Edition-Electronic-Games/dp/B0093G9VOI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1349743395&sr=8-1&keywords=neo+geo+x+gold

It says the the limited edition pre-order comes with a "Ninja Master's Neogeo X Game Card." I don't know diddly about the Neo Geo, but that sounds like an additional game on a card to me.  Which would be sweet.  I'm very tempted to pick one of these up, along with an extra controller.

UPDATE:  Just noticed this image on the amazon link.  Sorry it's so big:

The one thing I didn't like about the entertainment center was that there was only one small hole in each column to route wires through.  If you look closely at the back, behind the consoles you can see I cut/tore big holes in the back to allow for easier wire routing and better air flow. That Onkyo receiver can really crank out the heat!

It's not my desktop, but here's a screenhot of my Screen Saver:

screensaver.webp

The screensaver plays 6 random NES games (via info recorded from some emulator).  Every time it starts up, there are different games being played.  It's pretty sweet.  I really wish there was a TG16 version of this screen saver.  I'd play games via emulator just to add gameplay data to it. :)

Sorry for the huge dimensions.  I forgot to resize it before uploading. :P

Well I spent a good portion of today reorganizing my living room setup so I thought I'd show a couple pics:

IMG
IMG

I've always noticed a slight lag in my 8 and 16-bit consoles and realized if run them through the TV *then* to the receiver, the lag disappears.  Granted, I don't get the nice up-scaling the receiver provides, but I sit so far back it really doesn't make any difference.

Still, a lot of my obeying is done in my bedroom on a 27" JVC Tube TV, but it's nice to be able to finally play while sitting on my couch and listening though a decent sound system. :)
