@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

The Everdrive works great on my PCE Duo-R, but when I tried popping it into a recently purchased CoreGrafx system it would not boot to the menu. The CoreGrafx works fine with official PCE HuCards, but not this everdrive.

EverDrive V2.2 -  - 21.02.2015

PCE CoreGrafx 05105593b - PI-T63

Does anyone have any ideas of what to change/try, or perhaps I should contact Krikzz? I purchased it from them through a group by here with Tucci a couple years back.

I tried this game out recently while perusing the library on the everdrive; I've heard of the NES game but had never played it, and figured I'd try the PCE big brother out while I was thinking of it. I don't have an everdrive on the NES or I would have tried it there, but my curiosity over this terra cresta business made me pop it on

http://pcengine.co.uk/HTML_Games/Terra_Cresta_II.htm

Initially I wasn't a huge fan, but after the tunes got pumping and the powerups started flowing, I got way into it! A lot of fun, and something I will come back to again soon probably.

What are your guys thoughts on the game? In a sea of similar titles do you think think this one stands out, or am I just starved to get back to playing PCE after a few months of not being able to.

I have a copy of Call of Duty World War II for PS4 that is new/sealed, and am looking to trade for Ys VIII, Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition, Nioh Complete Edition, Nier Automata, or older generation games.

If anyone wants to trade let me know and we can work something out

We should get a pcefx team together. I'll play in net, who's going to score goals and play defense? Meet up at vegas for a tournament and show some hosers how we do things on pcefx!

I am catching up on Star Trek, I've never watched any of it so for the past few months I've filled white noise with Star Trek Next Generation - I've gotten to where I really like it. Episode 22 of season three made me laugh when I realized it was a about collectarding to a certain extent.

I can't post a link to it, but I was wondering if anyone else has watched this and imagined collectors of videogames in the future :P

The team who made the MegaMan Zero/Z games for GBA is behind the new Blaster Master remake/sequel. I am very intrigued - I loved the Zero games and thought they did a good job with MegaMan 9, so a lot of reason to be confident this will be a quality title. Hell yeah!

Sometimes I worry that I am set in my ways, and I constantly just use photoshop because that's what I've done for over 15 years - so it's just my "default make art" program.

Today in the DoxPhile chat sirhcman posted a video about "Delux Paint 2"
While watching this I started thinking maybe I am close minded and might be missing out on applications that would make my life easier by sticking too close to the "photoshop > gimp > mappy" workflow.

I currently use smart objects to assemble mockups of what the finished scene will look at, with a smart object for each "tile" so I can update that object and see the results on my mock-up. I spend a lot of time cleaning up "typos" that ruin my palette. I try to stick to the  x/36 palette, but since I want to work within RGB mode (so many more features available) I often pollute my palette by accidentally changing my brush blending mode or opacity ( or forget to switch back to "pixel art mode" and have bi-linear filtering on my transforms/brushes)

Maybe I am making things too difficult on myself, and am closed minded to old and or modern equivalent tools for developing within the restrictions we're held to on PCE?

I'd really like to hear from some of the veteran PCE artists out there! (cough cough Paul cough cough BT   )

This thread's answers will vary dramatically based on the skill of each player, but I was wondering what do you guys think of as a game that someone can pick up over a weekend and beat it ?

I recently finished Ys Book I & II, and instantly wanted to plan for what to start next. Lukester suggested exile. The Old Rover also suggested it, saying that it's easy and relatively short.

So my plan for my next weekend sit game will be exile in hopes to beat it start to finish over a weekend, and I got to wondering what other people's suggestions are for a game to play over a weekend, from start to finish - including practice! I know there are hundreds of games that are 30 minutes long, but require hours and hours of repetition to memorize or hone reflexes - I am mostly just curious about a laymen's achievable conquest :P

Edit: I decided to take the suggestions and list them here, and then if anyone has tips on how to beat these games, or suggestions on what a rookie can do to catch up and actual get past them, please post about them! :)

I am considering buying this game, it's pricey for my typical gaming budget, but the reviews are glowing and media opinions seem to point at it being up my alley.

I still have a halfie for the idea of Wii U JRPGs (I don't own a Vita, but probably should get one since those are my most played genre) I've gotten somewhat burned out on Xenoblade Chronicles X - I just could not build affinity and kinda felt meh about it for a few months, so I am seriously considering picking this up at MSRP.

I certainly consider a lot of your views to be inline with my own so I would love to hear peoples opinion on the game if you played it. I've never played a Persona/Shin Megami Tensei game, but I've really loved the fire emblem games, and would like to transition into the SMT/P games at one point, so I am thinking maybe this is a good entry point for me.

I would consider myself a casual JRPG player since I rarely finish the games or exploit the systems and rock end game, I just enjoy their gameplay pace and the typically very japanese design sensibilities, so I am thinking this game might be a perfect time waster for me to fall asleep to after a long days work.

Also, I am not a huge J/K Pop fan, not knowing any bands or anything about it really, but danm this has been on loop for a bit while I research the game, and it alone kinda makes me want the game :P

Together Cabbage and I won a game jam today  , and I thought I'd share it with everyone here since this is where I met him.

A game jam is a competition where developers make a game in a short period of time then the results are ranked on various criteria.

This competition was a week long, and was judged on the adherence to theme, how funny it was, how well it takes advantage of the platform, and overall.

The theme was picked at random was "Red Hot Princess Carnage"

He asked me to help him by making art, and together we picked the gameboy color to develop our game.

We decided to fit the theme we will make a game about a princess burning everything in her castle to get to a cake, and Cabbage quickly busted out a rad little game that I was lucky to have a part in making the visuals for. We called the game "Where's My Cake?"

Here is a link to the competition,
http://jams.gamejolt.io/bitbitjam3/games/where-s-my-cake-gbc/161802

Here is a link to where the game is downloadable to play on an everdrive/emulator, and is playable in the browser at this link as well,
http://jams.gamejolt.io/bitbitjam3/games/where-s-my-cake-gbc/161802

I was surprised we won, there were some cool other games, but I am really happy for us and had a frigging blast busting this bad girl out  =D>

Now to get back to some of my other obligations and projects!  8-[

Numbskull noob needs nfo, sorry for the incoming silly questions  :-({|=

How exactly do I split the images that I export from Mappy into multiple images so that the colors are limited to 16 per image?

I've created an image keeping each 8x8 tile to under 16 colors, and made sure that there are no more than 16 different combinations of colors. There are 34 total colors in the image right now, and I am estimating after this point, but there will be probably ~5 palettes to achieve this image. I did this so that it would be "easy" LOL  ](*,)

I got all the images into Mappy, and I created a tile based image using the Mappy tools. When I exported the art that accompanies the FMP all of the tiles combine into one 34 color image - which I obviously can't use.  [-(

I am stumped on how to export from Mappy while adhering to 16 color limit per image. Although I can restrict that manually using my Photoshop>Gimp workflow, once it gets into Mappy everything gets combined again.  :-k

The HuC tutorial(http://obeybrew.com/crashcourse6.html) provides PCX images appear to have been exported by mappy, both images included in the archive (http://obeybrew.com/tutorial6files.7z) that are provided are limited to 16 colors, but I was not yet able to find documentation on how to export 1 Mappy image into multiple PCX images limiting them to 16 colors per image. Even the export I receive from Mappy now is a BMP that I manually convert to PCX.

It was late when I hit this road block, and I haven't deeply researched it yet today, but I thought rather than running in google circles I would reach out to the obey brew guru's and see if there's a simple solution - there's got to be a "make game" button somewhere, amirite? [-o<

I recently picked up a complete copy of Pac-Land, so my old loose copy is now not needed, and I figured I would share a game with the community that I enjoyed a lot as a kid.

If you haven't played this one, it's unique and worth checking out. I always thought the graphics were a bit overly simplistic, but the animation and colors are nice. The default controls will throw you for a loop if you do not expect them. II moves your character left, and I moves your character right, while all of the directional pad buttons make your character jump. The movement is very momentum based, and there are some tricky jumps. Another cool thing about the game are the hidden objects to find, and power pellets to find and allow Pac-Man to take out the ghosts.

It's a lot of fun, and I hope the winner enjoys it and redistributes the game back into the community when they're ready to get rid of it :)

I'll leave this open to the people who are contributing to the community positively in one way or another, so post count isn't as important as the content of those posts, and I will leave it up to personal discretion who goes into the raffle. I doubt I would say no to anyone, though haha :P

I will pick raffle entrant at the end of the 30th of October

With my 201st post I'd like to hold a raffle and thank everyone who's been so cool to this rookie, and my irrational attachment to TV Sports Hockey

I've had a blast importing games and experimenting with them, but some of these games are too text heavy for me to enjoy, so I figured I would get rid of them, and what better way than by giving them happy homes with a PCEFX forums raffle!

The games up for grab are Neutopia CIC, Momotaro Densetsu II loose, World Court Tennis loose, and a not-working copy of Gunhed loose.

IMG

Rules:
1)   Please don't flip these!
2)   Raffle ends 9/16/15 (3 weeks from today)
3)   First place gets first pick, second gets second pick, third gets third pick, fourth place gets the scraps!
4)   Post count has to be at least half of mine, 100 minimum!
5)   I'll cover shipping if the address is within the US, but if you're outside the US and want to enter the raffle I will ask you to cover the difference should you emerge victorious.
6)   If you donate to a obeybrew team I will give two entries for the raffle
5)   You must post a hockey related image! Anything!

NEUTOPIA
CIC Neutopia. Works good and seems to be in good shape. I purchased this game because the genre is one of my favorite, and I had played the US version on emulator enough to know I would enjoy it, but couldn't find a good deal on a US version. I thought this would be the best game for me to learn how to battle through the moon runes and enjoy a foreign rpg, but the runes proved to be too much for me, so back to the ether it will go!
IMG
IMG

MOMOTARO DENSETSU II
I ordered a loose PCE Huecard lot from japan, and Momotaro Densetsu II was one of the games. I thought it was Momotaro Katsugeki from the photo, but when I popped it in I was surprised to find out I had gotten a moon rune riddled JRPG – ack!
IMG

WORLD COURT PRO TENNIS
I got this game in the same lot, and I thought I could play through the quest mode with the moon runes, but I had thought wrong, and will likely never play this game so I am offering it to someone who will! The card is yellowed, and the art is scratched up, but it works fine!
IMG

GUNHED
This is the game that sold me on the lot, unfortunately it does not work! The system won't load the game, black screen, but maybe yours will? I don't have multiple PCE's to try the game on, so it might be an issue with my system, but this is being offered as a dead card that will not work!.

Entrants:
wildfruit - Random girl with a hockey stick (photoshopped?? doesn't really matter)
turboswimbz - SlapShot theatrical movie poster - classy!
T2KFreeker - Badass lizard hockey player drawing, so creative! Mutant League Prophecy
Wilykat - Offensive photo of a majestic King breaking his stick! Smack talker! I love it![/size]

I was looking into getting reproductions of games I could never dream of justifying (MUSHA, Hagane, Magical Chase/Coryoon) and I got to thinking how much more peace of mind I would have purchasing them from a large reputable company. It got me wondering, if games began being re-released for classic consoles, would anyone else purchase them? I would certainly pay more than the cost of the digital/virtual console versions to have copy to play on actual hardware. Everdrives make this idea moot, I know, but I thought it was a funny dream world idea.

Hi everyone I'm Greg from San Diego CA USA. I found the site through Atari Age, and am quickly becoming addicted to reading the forum's threads. Such a wealth of information, I really appreciate it being available and for everyone's contributions. Thanks for allowing me to join, and to partake!

I got my TG-16 on super discount at a "Woolworths" here when they were liquidating systems and my parents considered it a good deal. I played the heck out of it as a kid, because it was a major upgrade from my NES at the time. I initially only had Bonk and Vigilante, but later got Pac-Land, Parasol Stars, Tail Spin, Bonk's Revenge, and Fantasy Zone. The included Keith Courage was fun, but too difficult for me as a kid and I never got far in it. Recently I unpacked the old console to try out some games I picked up from other forums, attempting to see what I had missed, and it sparked a new fire of wanting to try more and more that I had missed.

The first game I tried, which I am sickened that I had missed as a kid, may surprise you - TV Sports Hockey. I am a huge hockey fan, and was amazed by the graphics and gameplay, especially considering the year. This game is as good (or better, in ways) as the EA games, and makes me wonder if they had used TV Sports Hockey as their reference when building their game. I had a blast playing it, so I figured I should try out some more commonly considered good games, and I picked up Legendary Axe. What a blast that game is, and again I can't believe I missed it as a kid. I am getting more and more excited to see what else is out there I may've missed.

Unfortunately my Fantasy Zone, Parasol Stars, and Pac Land games were taken by a visitor when I was young, so I will need to replace those if I want to play them again. I have already picked up a loose cheap copy of Pac Land, that game is... interesting. Once I got acclimated to the odd control setup, it was actually kind of fun and weird.

I am currently considering picking up a PC-Engine Duo or -r -rx so that I can get import copies of hue card games to save on costs, and play all regions of CD based games - none of which I've ever tried.

This site is really inspiring, and it's great to know that there's such a cool community supporting the console that I used to consider weird and obscure, but apparently I wasn't the only one around singing it's praises. Thanks again, and I look forward to getting to know you all.
