Hello.

My drive for the TurboGrafx CD isn't working properly. When it has been stored away for a while and I first attempt to use it, the disc will not spin. The drive displays PC but there is no "click" and the disk doesn't spin or move at all. After some time, say 1/2 hour or so, it will start to work fine. Once it starts working it seems to work just fine.

It also does not work on it's own as a CD player although just like when in the system, once it works it works.

I had replaced the whole laser assembly from the computer version of this drive years ago. However this seems to be another issue altogether. Also I can smell some "burnt" electronics from the back of the drive where it plugs into the CD unit.

Is there anyone offering repair for the CD drive? I am hoping it is just caps...

I do have another functioning version of this drive that was used with computers.
I sometimes listen to music on it. Not sure if that unit can help in the repair of the TG-CD unit.
It doesn't work for games when connected to the TG-CD base.

Thanks!

Console Repair/Mod Center / TG16 AV mod

Nothing special, but I AV modded a TG-16. I grabbed V,L,R,G from under the board where the 69 pin connector is.
Works really good!

Hey. Can a SEGA Genesis 1 or Atari Jaguar power supply be used to run the TG+CD setup?

What I've searched for seem to say yes, but I wanted to ask here and make sure it has been done before, before I try it on my setup.

Thanks.
** edit, looks like the info I read was wrong. The pin is larger in the CD base unit.

So, is there a commonly used replacement power supply for the TG+CD?

I am thinking about getting a PC Engine. I read that it only has RF out. Does the RF work on USA TV's. I read it would work but there would be no audio.
If so, I guess the core grafx would be better to get.
Thanks!

Hello.

My brother has a DUO-R that is having problems playing CD games.
The discs spin up but the system says to please set the disc.

Has anyone experienced this and can give any insight as to what might be wrong with the system?

Hi everyone. I'm typing this quick and admitting to not doing a lot of searching...

But can someone link me to a translation to English for the Tennokoe Bank memory hucard manual?

Also, is it possible to change the battery in the card? How do you open the card? It seems like the top can lift off and there is even a place where it is open as if to give you a space to get something in there to lift it off.
I wanted to ask before I try because I dont want to destroy the card. It is still working but I'd like to change the battery because the one in there must be very old.

Thanks!

Last night I was playing a game of Carmen Sandiego and when I got to the 1st VILE henchman the CD unit went to load the animation and **CRUNCH** it made that famous crunching, skipping noise. Otherwise it loaded and played just fine. Yesterday I was playing Shanghai III and when the background audio track went to repeat...**Crunch** and then it played fine. Plus every repeat after that seeked with hardly any noise.

Now I've owned more than one of these CD units since the launch of the TG-CD. All of them have made this noise. Our friends unit made the noise....I noticed it seems to happen about once per use. I remember once in the early 90s playing Ys and the CD drive make a loud crack noise like the laser just took off during a seek and slammed into its limit with no stop switch. Me and my brother looked at each other and we had that *ouch** look, but it seemed to work fine after.

What is the cause of it? Is it the gears actually skipping? Seems like some times when the motor goes to rapid the laser sometimes it just skips? If I was to guess I would say it was skipping between the gear on the lasers screw and the middle gear. I guess that because the gear on the screw can move back a bit under pressure.

Anyone ever narrow this down?

Any one have the TotoTEK PCE Pro 32M flash cart?
http://www.tototek.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_5_19&products_id=30

If so, do you like it? Easy to use? Any draw backs to it? I've read you cant mix Region roms on it. But if you have a region switch , why not just select the region of the rom your going to play before turning it on?

I'm thinking of getting one as $60 is not a bad price. My brother uses that other one (i forget the name) that uses a usb programmer and has 128m. He really likes it. At 1st he thought it was broken but once he found the right software to use he now loves it.

Thanks!

Sorry if its a total noob question, but, is there a way to use the Turbo Stick with the PCE Duo-R?
I always prefered the stick for shooters like Spriggan and Cyber Core.
I have a PCE Duo-r on the way and I think it uses the smaller DIN plug for the controllers.

Thanks!

I'm trying to do the retrozone usb kit to adapt a turbo pad to usb.

I have it all wired up right but UP and BUTTON 1 don't work.
I sent them an AIM message and pictures of the kit. They told me something about soldering some pads.
I didnt hear anything back from them so I am wondering if anyone here can post pictures of the front and back of a working kit. If I can see whats different I can get it working.

Thank you!

I'm a long time Turbografx owner/player. I've been out of the scene for a while but I've started playing my Turbo again recently. I found that the gear in CD-Rom drive dried out and cracked when I tried to play a game. So this leaves me with a bunch of CDROM games I cant play. (besides in magic engine emu).

So, looking at the price of a working CD system, or USA Duo, I thought it might be better to just get a Japanese Duo.
Question is, I have 2 of these purple adapters to play japan hu-cards in the tg-16. They look like the WH-301 I see pictured at this site. Will these work in the japan system to play tg-16 hu-card in the PC-Engine?
(Its a long shot but I thought I would ask!)

While I'm typing let me also ask these questions:

Speaking of playing only CD-ROM games, is the Japanese DUO the best solution?

Also, I thought I had seen years ago, an adapter that would allow you to use a turbo pad on your PC. An adapter that converts the pad to a usb device. Is there such a device being sold and where?

Thanks!
