Off-Topic / Re: The Video Game Years

i really like the concept of the this show but I always felt like it was missing something. Perhaps if it stays around long enough it will hit its stride. I agree that the "video game babes" and "should have been a game" segments need to go. Even if they are meant to emulate those VH1 shows, that's a poor reason to keep a segment that doesn't really work.

It's kind a weird state to be in where I've always thought of myself, and been thought of by others as the "gamer" and now more and more companies aren't making games for me. Mobile games, by nature of the controls, just aren't as good and yet that is where the money is I guess.
#403
Pretty funny, not too over the top. I wonder how the game would be w/o all the hit detection issues. Visually it looks pretty good.

I've lost about 25 pounds since Nov '14. My wife's neurologist put her on a Keto diet and I did it too, to lose weight but also to support her. A keto diet is a low carb diet.  We do have a "splurge" day on Saturday that keeps us sane. It's very important to keep the splurge day to just one day a week though. Basically our diet consists of meat and vegetables. Once you break away from the carb addiction(it literally is an addiction) it gets easier. I also dropped Coke and bought a Sodastream, now I just drink the carbonated water. At the same time in Nov. I started jogging now I'm up to 3miles/5k  almost every single day.

I'd have to search for the article again, but Verizon received tax dollars as a "common carrier" to build out its network but then didn't want to get regulated like a common carrier. Pretty disgusting really. I'm against heavy handed regulation too, but the regulations are already in favor the Telco's/Cable companies and something needed to be done.

Quote from: NightWolve on 05/11/2015, 09:49 AMThat's interesting about the gun wanting a video feed to operate.
The Guncon plugs in to the composite video jack. If you're using a video source without composite like my cheap SCART cable then you're SOL.
You're not completely SOL

I think the first game I bought on my own was Wild Arms for Playstation but it might have been Final Fantasy 7. That was around the time I got my first job at Dairy Queen and started to make money on my own. Before that it was all presents and renting. I wasted so much damn money renting games I could bought a few goods ones.

Please include me in the raffle. I actually have all the inserts for this game and I've been looking for a loose copy for a long time. Also F.Y.I the guncon's video pass through plug will work on the green wire of ps2 component cables. My wife and I love to play gun games together.

Being the lifelong gamer that I am, I used to pop by TZD and drool over stuff that I wanted but never could afford. Does anyone remember a game website called cart-mart.com?

Edit found it on the internet archive:

Quote from: technozombie on 04/16/2015, 08:36 AMThis rumor has persisted for a awhile but I think its just a rumor.
When GameStop started offering some retro stuff for GameStop reward points they mentioned that they had an entire distribution center full of stock that they no longer sell in stores and that they may look into selling it in the future.
They probably think they are sitting on a gold mine, when it's just 500,000 copies of Genesis sports games.
They used to sell Super Mario/Duck Hunt for 5¢. Now I see people asking $10.

Quote from: EvilEvoIX on 04/15/2015, 08:33 PMDon't they have a ton of old FUNCOLAND stock just sitting somewhere?  I know they are buying up PS2's now as well.

I've said this before but I worked for GameStop for 5 years and was a store manger for 3. I HATE GameStop. When I was a manager I would give people who bought the last one 10% off.

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 04/15/2015, 12:08 PMWhat's interesting about it?
For one thing I'm curious what a more static price structure would do to rising game prices. Obviously this would take awhile to come into effect, but if there is a large scale, big name source for certain   games then people may be more hesitant to pay rising eBay prices.

Ha, that's a line right out of Gamesack, you should use that.........but then you'd have to pay royalties to the thread creator or something.

Anyways, I know this has been talked about a million times but I always feel like using the rapid fire for something like that is cheating. Maybe that's why I don't get very far in Legendary Axe.

I'm sure a lot of you have seen this on Facebook already but just in case:

Pretty interesting really.

The Wii, using component outs on a CRT produces some amazing emulation result. I think it's the closest thing you can to the real thing while also having the benefits of emulation.
#417
I recently played the translated Aoi Blink, was a pretty fun game although I know nothing about the property. I'm assuming it's based on some anime/manga?
#418
If it really matters that much get an everdrive and just leave it in. There, problem solved and you just saved a ton of money.
#419
I finished it a month or so ago on my everdrive. It really is an amazing game that doesn't get the credit it's due.

nice finds. onimusha 3 is a great game. love how you can travel back and forward in time.
I remember wanting to play it when it came out but I didn't get the chance. When I saw it for $3 complete, I couldn't say no.

Solved my problem, although not in the way I was hoping. Oh well my Duo is looking great now an my sync issues are resolved.
#426
Well, I ordered some 8 pin din connectors to make myself an RGB to component cable. The sync is now working  fine, but I don't get any green. Red and blue look fine but anything green is showing as grey.  I know that component doesn't actually carry green but instead uses the difference between red/blue to determine green, but I'm not sure how that plays into my issue.

You don't like Philips? It hasn't been a bad tv and the picture looks pretty good on it. Of course I only paid $5 for it at a yard sale. Also, it's of the flat tube variety.

My original SNES had the same graphical problems, garbled is exactly how I described it lol. It was really weird in that some things worked fine and others were just completely jacked up.

I think their are some parallels, such as people buying Amiibo's or special edition 3ds' just to hold and possibly flip.  But I think that, just like the "actually rare" comics, the "actually rare" games will continue to hold their value.

Yeah it may have a Squaresoft logo (predominantly a HAL Laboratory game) on it, but it's not an RPG,  rather a stage based overhead action game

Quote from: seieienbu on 03/27/2015, 11:29 AMFor the life of me, I will NEVER understand why people call Kieth Courage the worst pack-in game.  Even ignoring less commonly known pack-in games like Gyromite, are there people who think that Altered Beast is some fantastic work of gaming literature?  Honestly, that game is boring and bad.  I've never understood why people seem to think that it's better than Kieth Courage.
Although, I agree with you about the quality of Altered Beast, as a game it was visually striking and at least had an arcade presence. I'm with Blacktiger that R-type would have been best, if not for name recognition alone. I think the biggest hurdle to the Tg's success was how long they took to get it out in the U.S. I think even 6 months before the Genesis would have gone a long way for building mind share among the gaming public.
#433
When I was messing with xak3 I think that imgburn ripped it as cue/iso which I thought was strange. I'll verify that this evening when I get home from work.
#434
I too have a doujindance duo-r with RGB mod. I haven't had any issues but after looking inside he used some nasty brown glue on everything making it very difficult to redo should the need arise. I echo the comments of others to get on from either turbokon or Keith courage.
#435
The US GameCube doesn't do RGB out and the component requires a special chip that is included with the cable. That is why GameCube component cables are so expensive now. The best option is to get a backwards compatible Wii and use the component cable for that. Since the Wii has all the actual GameCube hardware it is literally the same thing.
#436
I started using an app simply called photo resizer. Yes it's an extra step but its worth it.
#437
I have a few digital purchases on steam because they were super cheap on sale but I have the hardest time giving up my right to resell.
#439
Well I don't have any monitors that can accept scart but I did try something else. I have a SNES that I put one of Turbokon's component boards in.  This is how I normally play my SNES, well I instead hooked it up with the scart cable and loaded up a Konami game and the screen started rolling. My problem must have something to do with the scart to component box.

On a side note I wished I had joined the forum prior to buying my DuoR. It's a mess in there. Doujindance put all this brown glue crap inside it.
#440
It is doing now on my Genesis although I don't remember it doing that in the past.
#441
I bought it already modded  so I don't know how it was done. I'll pop it open tomorrow and take a look.
#442
The 1k resistor made it completely unplayable.

I'm convinced this is a much bigger problem than people give it credit for.
Read through the first couple hundred pages of this thread and you'll find lots of cross referenced proof of specific people doing it in an ongoing basis.

At the same times you'll also see plenty of collectards complaining that we're just insecure whiners who just wish that prices weren't "legitimately" high and that we "just want free games".
I was speaking of the population at large as opposed to the astute members here. Sadly, EBay has become the determiner of value for almost everyone from second hand stores to flee markets. I've seen people print off sold ebay  listings and display them at garage sales for maximum profit.
#444
I already have some 1k resistors so I'll give that a try. Should there be resistors anywhere else? Doesn't the SNES usually have three?

#447
Well the resistor did improve picture a little it seems but it is still rolling and doing the tearing thing. Here is a picture after the 220ohm resistor. The first block of the color looks better, although it may be hard to tell from the pictures.
#448
Thanks. Hmmm I wonder if my local radio shack is open.....
#449
OK, I opened up the cable and there is a resistor inside, it is soldered to pins 8 and 16.
Is that where it should be?
#450
A white screen will do it for sure but it doesn't have to be. While in the 240p test suite the "white & RGB screen" test will do it every time. I also have another issue as seen in this picture.
