10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Thanks! That did the trick.

I'm trying to give Ootake a try to see how it compares with Magic Engine. I tried to load a couple of roms, but all I get is a black screen after I pick my rom file. Both of the roms that I tried worked without difficulty in Magic Engine. I did wait a few minutes just to see if it was a matter of being painfully slow, but nothing ever appeared. Any ideas what I may be missing? I'm running XP SP3.

Thanks all, for your suggestions!

NightWolve - I was able to get up and running by using Alcohol 52% and following the steps that you mentioned.

I gave turbo engine emulator a shot and it immediately crashes upon launch. I'm running xp, so perhaps it doesn't work with that?

I tried the suggested magic engine settings, but still am having no luck. I am running the latest version on their site. I just tried ootake as well for the heck of it, and it also won't recognize my cd image, so I'm guessing it might be a problem with the image. Would anyone recommend a program with which I should create my bin/cue from my CD?

I have a collection of Turbo CDs that I want to back up onto hard drive for use with Magic Engine and Hyperspin within an arcade cabinet. Sadly, I am not having any luck getting a disc image to load manually within Magic Engine.

I created my bin/cue image using ImgBurn, updated my pce.ini with the below, and mounted my image with daemon tools lite (drive g - the third cd drive). When I load magic engine, it simply says "No CD". Does anyone have any tips for what else I could try to get this working?

All,

I was playing with the idea of perhaps working on a translation patch for a PC Engine game, and I wondered if you would recommend any resources for getting started with this. Any good documents that provide general direction on the topic would be great. Also, where is the best place to look for a definitive list of games that have already been translated?

Hey Folks,

I replaced the six suggested caps on my duo and the system sound is very consistent now (it would go out after a while before). The CD audio is where I'm having the problem, though. It is very faint, all though if i turn the volume up, I can tell that it is being output at a consistent level. What do you think the most likely culprit is?

Thanks,

Fabio

Hey Folks,

I was curious to know if there's ever been a stateside convention for NEC related consoles. I remember that at one point there was one for the Jaguar, so anything could be possible. Also, what kind of coverage does NEC get at the annual classic gaming convention?
