Hey yo,

First in a series, it's a review for Dracula X: Rondo of Blood --

Dracula X: Rondo of Blood drips of Konami's passion and love, as they delivered us the world (and more!) crammed on one CD.

An index will be added in future to keep track of reviews, but I couldn't help but share the first one now :)

There are plenty more lined up, but please reply with any suggestions as to what game you'd like to see reviewed (and why).  Any NEC system is appropriate -- PCE, PC-FX, or even the PC-98!

Hey yo!  I'm selling my Ys III Special music CD.  It has 32 tracks of music from the X68000 version of the game, as well as 4 arranged tracks by JDK band.  No spine card included -- just the case, disc, and leaflet.  I'm looking for $10, which includes shipping in the US (if you live in another country, it'll be a little extra $$$).

The disc surface looks like it has been rubbed around on a cloth... not exactly "scratched", but rough.  It plays perfectly fine though.  PM if interested.

Mario must escape from the Underworld to defeat Bowser once and for all. Rise from your grave!

Notes: It took several cuts and some playtest opinions, but I think this one is okayish now. After a calm beginning, this one becomes a hectic action stage that culminates in a difficult boss fight. Be sure to grab the powerups along the way to increase your odds (although in theory, it's possible to beat Bowser even if you haven't powered up). You'll notice that after obtaining the fire flower, there's a massive enemy bumrush -- that's intentional so that the player gets to go to town and blast them to bits. Shooting enemies with fireballs is fun!

How can there be so many coins? This is a "treasure hunt" stage -- play it again and again to find coins that you missed before!

Notes: This one is geared to be "fun". In terms of final product matching my vision, this is the best stage I've made. It has multiple paths and a lot of secrets. It's not hard to beat the level, but getting all 99 coins in a single play requires memory and skill.

Bowser Jr pops up in the strangest places. This time, he's underwater! A great stage for kids.

Notes: I created this one to give my brain a break from working on the stage above. It's simple and short. A friend had repeatedly asked that I created a New SMB stage (instead of the SMB1 stages below) so that he could do wall jumps and wall slides. So I did. And I put it underwater.

An abandoned house and an impossibly long jump to the flag. Call upon the power of the angels to find your way across!

Notes: This is more of a puzzle than a platformer. There are a couple tricky jumps on cannonballs, but nothing you haven't seen in Mario games before. Some respawning Hammer Bros in the second half add challenge. Obtaining all 50 coins is the subquest, which makes it a lot tougher. Aesthetically, this stage is kind of a mess.

Post-mortem: It wasn't actually hard to master. There was nothing inherently interesting about this stage; basically it was just a bunch of stuff glommed together. Removed.

Subterfuge (SMB style)

Difficulty: *
The path to the flag is obvious, but unattainable. Can you discover the secret path to freedom?

Post-mortem: This level has been removed. Basically, it started up high, and you systematically worked your way down to several blocks that are spaced at increasing distances to the flag. Unfortunately, the ceiling above is too low to make all of the jumps! The trick was to return to a ? block that you passed on the way which would provide a koopa by which to bust a hole in the wall.

The biggest problem was that the ? block was not visible onscreen when you returned to it, so you had to (1) remember that it was there, and (2) successfully guess at where to do a running jump while in large form. It was a puzzle without sufficient clues, and for that reason it was removed.

To help site newcomers understand who's important around here and who's not, I've decided to start the official PCEFX "4K Post Club".

As president and founder of the club, I'm establishing two rules:
1) To join, you must have a minimum of 4,000 posts.
2) Each month, you must make a minimum of 100 posts.  This will allow us to change the name of the club each year to make it more exclusive and evolutionarily weed out folks who aren't pulling their weight.

Of course, there are several material benefits.  More will be revealed over time, but here are a few:
1) You can add the words "Official member of the PCEFX 4K Post Club" to your signature.  You are not allowed to do this unless you're a member.
2) If you're ever in an argument with someone who has fewer than 4,000 posts, I'll totally have your back.  Totally.
3) Exclusive raffles (this is an upcoming perk).  Each time a new member joins, they will raffle a US exclusive Turbo game, such as Ghost Manor or Darkwing Duck, to demonstrate their goodwill.  Only members of the 4K Post Club are eligible to participate.  This perk starts with the next member who joins.

My favorite Turbo game is Last Alert because of the stellar voice acting.  I don't own any chip games since chips/cards are universally bad.  But I do have a few PC Engine CD games.  Some people call me "Master of Astralius", but you can just call me Master.

Posting this on Fighting Street because I only want real PCEFX'ers to see this.  I would hate for some dude who only signed up to scour the "selling" forum to steal a sweet deal like this.

Due to various reasons, I've made the hard decision to sell my entire TurboGrafx-16 collection.

That being said, I only own three two TurboGrafx games:

1. Insanity (super-rare limited lightscribe edition)
2. Final Zone 2 (missing case and manual, but it's goddamn Final Zone 2)

So I lucked into a free copy of PCE Cocoron (I bought one of a certain person's spare TurboDuos -- old-timers here know who he is, but I don't want to drag his name into this thread -- and he had left the game in there).

At another message board, I was told that I should donate it so that it could be dumped.  Unfortunately, "donate" kind of implies "no money".  I was hoping I could get at least $2,500 for it.

Does anyone have any recommendations for how I can get the most money possible?  Alternately, if anyone here is willing to trade me six complete copies of Magical Chase (NA version) then that would work, too, since I could re-sell them.  I find it unlikely that any single one of you has six Magical Chases, but maybe several of you could pool together for the good of the Turbo community.

I'm posting this on Fighting Street, because only members can see this board.  I don't need people joining up just to take advantage of this deal.

Anyway, I've finally decided to let go of Magical Chase.  I really don't want to go through the eBay hassle of bid madness, people backing out, second-chance offers, etc that would surely come with selling this on eBay.  Yeah, I know that $300 is a nominal amount, but it's still 10 times what I paid for it.

I'm not looking for a stupid amount of money ($2000 is INSANE) but I don't want to be taken advantage of, either.  So I figured I would put it up for bid here.

Post the amount you're willing to pay.  In three days, or when it reaches $1000 (whichever comes first) I will consider the auction ended.  Please don't PM... this is intended to be a public auction to keep things above-board and fair.

If you own a Genesis or Sega CD, you've hopefully heard of Wolf Team.  They've got a cult following, and for good reason -- El Viento and Granada kicked ass.  Most of Wolf Team's cartridge games made it to the US and Europe, but we missed out on a lot of their CD titles.  Fhey Area is one of those, and it happens to be their first CD-based RPG.  It's not particularly good, but hey!  It's still interesting... and now, it's free.  The game's in nice shape and comes with both the case and instruction manual.

Working on a project, and looking for a bit of information.

What's the best Turbo music that you can think of -- chip or CD, US game or Japanese -- that has a fast and snappy beat?  And preferably not ominous.  I'm looking for people to name specific tracks.

For example, Last Moment of the Dark from Ys is amazing, but totally not what I'm looking for.  Whereas stuff from Nexzr is fast, energetic, and optimistic.

Youtube clips that happen to include the music are totally welcome.

To help bring everyone together, I've decided to hold a raffle.  The prize is the Japanese import PC Engine Super CD version of Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes.  It's a landmark RPG with phenomenal music.  Sadly, the game is missing the obi (also known as a "spine card" to heretical gaijin).

There are a few basic requirements to enter the raffle for Dragon Slayer.  It's also missing the map, by the way.

RAFFLE RULES:
1. There must be at least 5 entrants, or the raffle entry period will be extended by one week.
2. Raffle entry period ends at midnight Central Standard Time on Sunday, August 18, 2012.
3. There is no post count minimum, but you must have been a PCEFX member for longer than me.

Obviously it will be a while -- I'm predicting just in time for Christmas 2010 -- but I'm announcing Thunder Force Octology for the Turbo Super-CD.  This game will take one level from Thunder Force 1 through Thunder Force 6.  For Thunder Force 1's overhead level (and for TF2, if an overhead stage is selected) the action will be ramped up to the extreme, as well as providing a radar in the corner of the screen so that babies don't whine about "not being able to find the bases".

"BUT WAIT," you say.  "One level each from Thunder Force 1 through 6 should be called Thunder Force HEXOLOGY!"

You are correct.  But!  It is OCTOLOGY because there will be two additional levels.  One puts a "Thunder Force" twist on a level from Gate of Thunder, while the other puts a "Thunder Force" twist on a stage from Lords of Thunder!  That's right!

The reason I'm announcing this now is so that you can all provide your input as to which level you want to see.  Feel free to post your favorite levels from the following games:

Up for grabs are two copies of Samurai Ghost (US Turbographics 16 version)

When I say "copy", I mean that in the sense of "two separate items, each being a legitimate, original game".  These are not bootlegs like the fake Sapphire, which is why these cost more than the fake Sapphire.  However they cost considerably less than real Sapphire.  Could buy both for less than price of one real Sapphire.  Do not pass on great bargain!

This is a great game known as Genmatoshinden in Japan.  It is known as Samurai Ghost in the US.  You play as a samurai who is a ghost.  It plays like Shinobi 3, but a little different.

Competitors charge almost $100 for these games.  I only charge $95 each.

The "wildcat" supply ship is fat.
Storyline implicitly endorses the Mafia.
The orange bar of death (after you collect excess powerups) is scary and could frighten young children or the infirm.

Objectively, I'd say that Arrow Flash wins.  What do you all think?

What game are you most fervently wishing to appear on the Virtual Console, that you know never will?

For me, it would have to be Dracula X.  That game RULES and I think it would appeal to a lot of modern gamers.  Unfortunately, since it's a CD game, and an import CD game at that, I know we'll never see it.  Perhaps it'll appear on Xbox Live Arcade?  They're getting SOTN, after all.

This topic is about your experiences playing TurboChip DUDS.  Obviously, Japanese games are excluded, because those are HuCARDs, not TurboChips.

Now, I could easily make a blanket statement like "ALL TURBOCHIPS ARE DUDS".  It would be easy to say, because every TurboChip I've ever played has been a dud.  However, I will not say that.  I will leave open the possibility that there are some good ones out there that I just haven't played.  However, this topic is not about the good ones, so please don't defend any TurboChips here.

TURBOCHIP DUDS:

1) Legendary Axe - First off, the music pretty much blows.  On top of that, the game lacks action (compare this to any of the NES Ninja Gaiden games), the graphics are tile-based nonsense, and the "secret areas" that the instruction manual touts is really just "that one part in level 3 where you have to find a key".  Bad game with cheap bosses (like the Punjabbi)

2) Silent Debuggers - Leon looks pretty cool, but this game is otherwise unremarkable.  The music pretty much blows.  Some people call this the precursor to survival horror, but that can't be true -- otherwise, the genre would have died at birth.

3) Air Zonk - This is basically like taking the shooter segments of Mega Man 3 and stretching it out into an entire game.  A boring, sloppy game with music that pretty much blows.

Anyone play any good Xbox 360 games lately?  I just escaped from Final Fantasy XII hell, and I'm looking to play something that's actually good.  I might go back to Bullet Witch, which is yet another cool action game from Cavia.  It's "careful" action, though... if you go in with guns blazing, you'll die right away.  You've got to play smart and use the tons of cover provided to avoid bullets.  You've also got some interesting spells, such as the ability to HURL CARS AT PEOPLE WITH YOUR MIND.  Yeah, I like that one.

Here are the rules:
1) Find a partner.  Post who your partner is.
2) Find Spriggan.
3) Play Spriggan regular mode, and see how many points you can get on one credit.
4) Play Spriggan score attack, and see how many points you can get.
5) Post your scores for regular mode and score attack mode.  Time Attack is not valid.

That's it!
The regular and score attack totals for each pair will be added together.  No percentage, no weighting -- just raw values.  Basically, the regular mode separates the Bonks from the Marios, and the score attack determines the best of the Bonks.
