Off-Topic / AVGC obey preaching

rest of the pic's

Last weekend at AVGC, I had a few retro goodness to share. Event is very games concentric, over dealers and guests. Met up with Johnpv, Este and Ninja Spirit(MIA to fb) to talk turbo and smack on SNES. Everything was in one large expo hall which has is good and bad, but over all I had a good time at the event.

My little day trip is over...

Got up at 4am to get ready, hit the road little after 4:30am. Got to airport little after 6am...parked, got through security and had luck getting on 7:30am flight to Dallas. Got in DFW little after 9am, got a Lyft...made it to Retropalooza venue right at 10am when the doors opened. Walked around the dealers room(not much for me). Had a chili dog, played some Keith in the "console area" of the con...WEAK! 11:45am, went to the panel room that Joe and Dave where gonna be at and sat through 15 minutes of non-Game Sack youtubers(Chasers? maybe). Then the main event...55 minutes of my the best damn youtube guys out there...GAME SACK in the flesh! After the panel, got my shit signed, shook hands and called Lyft to get my ass back to the airport to catch the 3:30pm flight(I could not get on the 2:30, it was full). Get back to Charlotte around 7pm, dropped of some speakers'n stuff to a buddy who lives down there, then drove back home...got back to post this at 10pm. Full day for a REAL Sack fan...

As for the show, saw a $5 loose P-47...talked seller down to $4 :) had to liberate it from it's display case misery. A few US Turbo to be seen from other vendors...all expected prices. P-47 seller also had a spine faded Riot Zone for $40, but I was 'meh. One seller had some CPS2 boards...common fodder but he did have a Slammasters(grey...cps 1.5 or Q??) that I would have tried to get if I wasn't flying(I had no baggage). I was only there Sunday, so someone could have snatched up other obey for sale. The event can def grow...had lot of open space on the console/tournament side...either more consoles setup for free play or cabs. But I think the main draw for this type of show is the hollytubers and dealers room. I over heard a dealer bitching about the kibosh on booze in the venue and the hotel public areas...not that that would prevent me with contraband if I ever go again for multiple days.

This guy has the loose P-47...he had prices on all his stuff unlike other sellers...I mentioned that to him and thanked him. As he said..."I've got nothing to hide". Sellers like that need to be rewarded with our business. I did not get on him about the Sparky labels(?) since he was selling for a buck each.

Got Galaga '90 on the block, replaced it with a PCE version. $22 shipped in the US.

I also have a case for Lords of Thunder that I ended up with after my disc got ganked. So if anyone is missing theirs, here is you chance. Case cover has some sticker residue, but you can replace that easy enough. Just cover the shipping, so like $2.

Edit - both items sold.

Rob ran 4 setup of turbob's this year at MAGFest b/c they have been severely lacking in obey for the past years. We could not allow that they have 17,000 attendees...we must preach to the masses! He had a schedule to showcase our fav console:

all pic's here.

Even when the Smash players steal the chairs, the obey stands!

Some of my obey got got while up in Detroit last wknd. I got reimbursed for what I felt was fair market value for the games by the con already. Below is a list of what LOOSE games I'm looking for with my WTB price shipped.

$25 Battle Lode Runner [pending]
$30 Dragon Saber [fulfilled]
$35 Parasol Stars JP [fulfilled]
$35 Parodius [pending]
$30 Ninja Spirit JP [fulfilled]
$40 Splatterhouse US [fulfilled]
$65 Lords or Winds of Thunder [pending]
$45 Gate of Thunder 4-in-1 [fulfilled]

Again, I'm looking to replace my stolen loose games, no need for CIB. If you have CIB and like my price, then cool...I'll give away on the forums the extra manuals and cases I get. I also have no issue with the JP version of the few US games listed.

So I'm heading up to Youmacon in Detroit with my cabs for the game room. I suggested to my contact up there that I could also bring some obey setups (along with SS Bomberman). Youma is increasing it's retro section and I saw it was lacking so I suggested it. The plan is to have a TG-16 CDROM, JP Duo, Shuttle and a SGX. We have a schedule of games(see below), all with a theme so it does not appear we just threw random games in.  My friend that is assisting me was testing his gear and discovered last night his TG-16 CD-ROM stopped spinning.

Now if this was a PS3 or 360, we would just be down a console, but this is Turbo...something like this will not stop us. It turns out that a local friend has a US Duo that he will let us borrow, so we will still have 4 systems running. We got to thinking...the TG-16 still works, we can still play Hu's. So we now are gonna have FIVE turbob's up and running all weekend. All on PVM's to boot!

Moral of the story, turbo can't be stopped. 4 - 1 = 5...system breaks and we INCREASE our numbers. The extra system will be used to run special requests or whatever the hell we feel like.

PS: If any PCFXers in the area are planning to attend, be sure to drop by and say hey. Always glad to have a face to match a handle.

Off-Topic / TAC 2013, Anime con...'meh
03/25/2013, 09:45 AM
Had two rooms to put my babies in. Could not get the two Versus up the elevator so they stayed at home. Typical new anime con...nothing like the awesomeness of MGC (but I got paid).

IMG
Put all the candy in one room.

IMG
These two monsters fit the elevator but not the doorway so they had to put outside in the hall. I had Alpha 3 running on the Capcom and an dying 360 on the Megalo.

IMG
Picked up an Outrun 2 upright (on long term loan) this wknd, had it running in the "woody" room. There was a Double Dragon and 60-in-1(vert) running behind the Viper and Outrun.

IMG
Metal Slug X got some love all weekend. Saw at least three credit rolls.

Console room was setup by the con and was nothing of note. I did have a some obey though. Beat stage 31 on Military Madness and played some Victory Run (but the control on the express is not as good as running it on a console, so no completes)

Fighting Street / MAGFest 11, lack of obey
01/09/2013, 10:15 AM
MAGFest 11 pic's:

IMG

IMG
My goodies I brought. The two pic's above is everything from my garage minus a gun game. Looks pretty nice all lined up.

IMG
Gotta plug wedoca when I can.

IMG
I think the arcade area was 35,000sq/f with 250+ arcade cabs. The noise was pretty intense.

IMG
Console room had NO OBEY! I call it a failure. I brought my own Duo and PVM to play in my room so all was not lost.

IMG
There was some Core's and a boxed Shuttle, but this TG-16 did not last long in the dealers room. Some friends of mine picked up a good chunk of TG/PCE games.

Rest of the pictures.

Gaming and partying from noon Thursday to Sunday night, running 24 hours a day...THAT is how you do a con! Other that total lack of Turbo in the console room, another great MAGFest. I do not think I ran into any PCFX members, but did catch up with some shmups folks.

I was organizing and found an empty case and manual for Pro Yakyuu World Stadium. I remember donating the Hu to Mad-Gear a few years ago, I must have forgotten I had the case. Who can give it a good home? First person to PM me an address gets it.

Off-Topic / Yuzo Koshiro at MAGFest

http://magfest.org/koshiro

QuoteIt is with great pleasure that I announce to you our next guest of honor at MAGFest 11: Yuzo Koshiro. Yuzo is most well known for his work on the Streets of Rage trilogy, Ys, ActRaiser, Shinobi, and many many more. Not only will he be present as a guest speaker, but he'll be spinning up some of his classic gaming tunes during his very own live DJ set. You can check out his full list of credits at his Wikipedia article and also pay a visit to the website of his very own developer studio ANCIENT

This is his FIRST EVER public appearance and performance in the USA, so don't miss this chance!
Time to get your Ys games signed!

Last week at MGC TurboFan and I got into it over the merits of Sidearms as new TG-16 owner was looking some US Hu's at Mad-Gear's table. He had Blazing and Bonk, but I suggested (and gave him money!) to buy Sidearms. T'Fan took offense to my suggestion, saying that Sidearms is no good. I will agree that SA is less of a game than any Soldier, but it's no stinker. It was compaired to Ordyne, which I feel is weak sauce...not worthy to stay in my collection.

My thoughts:
Sidearms was in a local arcade in my youth, and I played it every time I visited. Was able to make it to stage 5 on a token and that made me feel good. It's a Capcom game that has robots, multi weapons, upgrades...and you transform(merge). It moves hori and vert, cool looking backgounds and I enjoy the sound effects

Ordyne has flat graphics, I never played it in the arcade...all I have played is the Hu so maybe the PCB is better. I'd rather play Fantasy Zone, or better yet Parodius for a cute shooter. Power ups/shop items were forgetable...enemy patterns did not do it for me. Ship is too big, also.

So, what is the consensus from the PCEFX folks?
#16
Finally I can play my US Hu's again on the TV. Since I replaced my TG-16+CD with a PCE Duo, I've been missing my English in my games. Eat it, pin 29!

Got a Kisado for those US cards, not gonna bother with that DPDT mess...plus the flashcard I got does the pin swap for you.
