Quote from: munchiaz on 02/03/2014, 05:14 PMAnyone hit up the born of the gods pre releases this past weekend? I went to 1 on Saturday, and another 1 on Sunday. Went with red as my pre release color on Saturday, and i couldn't even play red, because there was no worthwhile cards. So i ran a black/white deck and ended up going 3-1. Sunday i decided to go black, and really liked the deck i built. I even got a Mogis, god of slaughter. I ended up going 2-2 on Sunday however. There were less people there on Sunday. If i would have won the last game i played, i would have taken 7th place.I played on Saturday and Sunday...went 3-0 and took an intentional draw in round 4 both days for a final record of 3-0-1. Due to tiebreaker points, I took 2nd place on Saturday but took 1st on Sunday. I chose Blue on Saturday and had 2 of the Serpents that can't attack unless you bounce an enchantment (but all of the enchantments in my deck let me draw a card when they come into play or were bestow creatures) and I kept triggering heroic. I chose Green on Sunday.
Anyway, I'm really liking born of the gods so far. I even have a new deck idea, based on some of new cards, and Master of cruelties. Check it out and tell me what you guys thing.

Quote from: vexcollects on 01/16/2014, 09:37 AMIs eBay recommended to buy a Duo R or RX? Anyone have any experience with this? Anything I need to look out for?I bought mine from ebay years ago (before I discovered this site) and had a local guy (Red Ghost) mod it for me.
Quote from: guest on 01/14/2014, 01:24 AMugh, standard. Do you guys play legacy or anything? lolI haven't played Legacy since it was called "type 1.5" (probably about 15 years ago). I recently got into Modern and took 1st place last week at my local store. I play Standard, Sealed, and Draft on a weekly basis as well as casual games of Commander.
Quote from: munchiaz on 01/13/2014, 12:41 PMSo went to my firat Magic PTQ this weekend here in AZ. It was pretty awesome. Had 178 players. I ended going 5-3 with my mono-black devotion deck. That got me 37th place. Not to bad for my first PTQ. I made some really bad side board mistakes during my last game. It def seemed like mono-black was the deck to beat, and everyone was running mono red devotion with chained to the rocks and assemble the legion. You need "Destroy the Evidence" to deal with Chained to the Rocks and "Illness in the Ranks" against Assemble the Legion.
My last game was against mono red, and for some reason i didn't side board in my duress's. This cost me the game because i simple lost to chained to the rocks. If i had my 3 duress spells, and 4 thoughseize, it could have been a different story.
Oh well, lesson learned. I had a ton of fun,and learned alot.
Quote from: guest on 12/26/2013, 09:37 AMMerry Christmas, OBEYers! I hope y'all like your goodies and nobody got the shaft.I'm still waiting for mine...I hope it is still out for delivery instead of getting the shaft.
Quote from: guest on 12/23/2013, 07:38 AM5 color EDH is a disaster. It hardly ever works, but when it does, people start laughing.2 of my friends play with Child of Alara as their commander and have had quite a bit of success with those decks. Another friend plays with Reaper King. The trick is to have plenty of way to fetch dual lands/shock lands.

Quote from: munchiaz on 12/20/2013, 05:39 PMSo i went 2-1 last night at one of my local drafts. This draft is a bit different because like 20-30 people show up. so they have 7 people per table when we are actually picking cards, then all the players are mixed, and it is 3 rounds. I ran a W/G deck, main focus was heroic with wingsteed rider and staunch warrior. I had around 13 spells/bestow to target them, and that's how i won all my games. Was that record good enough to win any prize? Still, the Xenagos is a nice pull. I like Staunch Warrior/Centaur Battlemaster in draft since they become so big that noone can handle them unless they have a Sip of Hemlock or Divine Verdict. I'm off to a Commander tournament tomorrow. I'm running Thrun, the Last Troll as my commander since he can't be countered, is hexproof, and regenerates.
Only good rare pull was a Xenagos. Its funny because at my table of 7, 2 people pulled Xenagos, and one other person pulled Elspeth
Quote from: munchiaz on 12/16/2013, 11:49 PMVery nice. Best of luck to you man. Make sure you post results after the tournament here. I plan on updating this with results each week. I played in a draft this past Sunday and took 3rd place. Lost to a guy who pulled Elspeth and Spear. I was running a mono black deck. Had no rares, but did have 2 gray merchants. It did fine, even against the Elspeth guyI can post results here (although it is 2 months away). Hopefully, this thread remains active.
Quote from: munchiaz on 12/16/2013, 12:22 AMI just PM'ed my decklist to you. Here's a photo of my prize for that tournament...Quote from: hoobs88 on 12/15/2013, 11:34 PMI've been playing Magic since 93. My favorite format is Sealed. I enjoy brewing new decks for Standard too. Especially with underdog cards that noone plays with. I recently won 1st place at an Invitational Qualifier with a Master of Cruelties deck.Very nice. Whats your deck list. Right now im playing a mono black devotion, but i dont think i will be playing game tournaments with it, just because mutavaults are to hard to come by. I really like that master of cruelties decks ive looked at alot. I might have to look into building one myself
Quote from: guest on 11/24/2013, 04:43 PMI hadn't played either version in quite a while so I was confused by your comment about them having identical sprites since I clearly recall being blown away by the enhanced graphics and cut scenes on the PSP version. But after digging up my PSP to make a comparison, I unlocked the "original game" mode in stage 2 and realized that you were comparing that mode to the PCE which does in fact have identical sprites. As Geise mentioned above, it does play a tad faster which gives it a different playing experience and the fact that the screen size is smaller with an unnecessary border is pretty lousy too which gives the PCE the edge in that comparison. The extra quest that I was referring to was apparently the original game mode (like I said, it had been a while since I had played but I did remember there being some other choice in the options menu). We obviously have differing opinions regarding the "3D" mode but I personally like it. I wasn't aware that it was available on the Virtual Console but if it costs $9, that sounds like a good value.Quote from: hoobs88 on 11/24/2013, 12:01 AMThe sprites/graphics are actually identical (aside from minor localization/censorship), it's just PCE hardware emulation. The exact same iso is $9 on Virtual Console. There isn't any alternate quest in the PSP version, just a bonus fugly 3D remake with compromised gameplay.Quote from: guest on 11/23/2013, 05:16 PMThe sprites/graphics seem better, the dialogue is in English, they added an alternate quest, and it also includes Symphony of the Night (that's 2 games for half the price of the PCE version).Quote from: hoobs88 on 11/22/2013, 10:55 PMWhen it was a PCE exclusive, it was cool to have but I think the PSP version is actually way better...and cheaper. How is it better? Are you sensitive to nude werewolves?
I agree that the compilation at the going price is a better value, but the included version isn't quite as nice. You can play the PCE version with he PSP dialogue or even improved English voice acting.
But the PSP version is still emulation, which if that's cool for someone, would mean that the torrent with every PCE CD iso is a much better value and you can play it with much better emulation on Android devices, let alone the infinite other alternatives.
The PSP collection compliments Dracula X for PC Engine. It doesn't make it obsolete.

Quote from: DragonmasterDan on 11/22/2013, 06:49 AMI picked up a couple games on the way to work.I was under the impression that those games were coming out on Black Friday but I got a text message from Game Stop that seemed to indicate that they would be available for pickup today while your photo certainly confirms it.
Quote from: Nando on 11/20/2013, 05:33 PMSuch an awesome game.Indeed. Another member just started a high score thread for this game that I plan to participate in (the buyer for this should participate as well!).
Quote from: guest on 11/19/2013, 11:59 PMYes, Herman Li is indeed the guitarist from Dragonforce. I have only owned an acoustic guitar over the 20+ years that I have been playing so I wanted to get a nice electric guitar and spent some vacation money towards it since I didn't go on a cruise this year.Quote from: hoobs88 on 11/19/2013, 09:33 PMIsn't Herman Li the guitarist from Dragonforce? Man, he's a monster. I remember watching a video awhile back where he said a lot of his licks were inspired by retro games.
Herman Li signature guitar
Quote from: guest on 10/31/2013, 11:36 AMNever heard of that game...looks cool from the cover art and it is a Capcom game so I'll have to look into it.

Sold off some dupes and used the majority of the cash to pick this guy up for about $10 out of pocket! Super minty condition, and it's finally added to my collection!
Quote from: tggodfrey on 10/25/2013, 10:33 PMThought I got a great deal on a M&MIII Map. Its a copy and whats worse......Its a copy that a member here has made.I was wondering why he kept relisting that map...makes sense since they are copies.
Couple years back another member made me a nice high quality copy of his map which had tape on it. Its a great copy but the tape is now part of the copy. Thsi guy just sent me the exact copy I already have and claims he had no idea.
Beware

Quote from: guest on 10/15/2013, 12:44 PMIt seems like Target is the only store that sells the Monster Cereals every year around Halloween in my area. I just tried Yummy Mummy this morning for the first time and it is good. I'm looking forward to trying Frute Brute as well. Fruity Pebbles has always been my favorite. I got a limited edition box of Fruity Pebbles with marshmallows a few years back and always wondered why they didn't sell them on a regular basis. I suppose I could always just remove the marshmallows from Lucky Charms and add them to my Fruity Pebbles (which would essentially leave me with Alpha Bits cereal).Quote from: hoobs88 on 10/14/2013, 10:23 PMI see someone was shopping at Target! They're the only ones who got the old school boxes, I've got the "updated" versions when I bought them at King Soopers (Kroger) near me. The flavors are new too! Personally I like the new Yummy Mummy (Orange Creme) over Frute Brute (Cherry), but it's definitely no Fruity Pebbles, my personal weakness.
Monster Cereals!
