12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

Buy/Sell/Trade / Price check
09/26/2016, 07:02 PM
Wow, this thread got crazy.
I was offered it for £300 recently and wanted to know if I was right to turn it down or just missed a mad bargain. It appeared to be completely original but I didn't know how to be sure in the spot so played it safe. I could probably still get it or at least some pics. It was definitely not dick waving.

I agree, I don't buy games to keep them sealed either, but this was an odd situation and I was curious. I didn't expect the thread to get so heated

Out of interest, what would be the expected price for a completely sealed Copy of Rondo of Blood?  Totally mint

A bit late but thanks for the replies

I recently picked up a really nice rgb modded ifu unit which looks almost brand new. The only issue I have with it is that the volume on it is quite low compared to my other consoles.

Is there a simple mod or circuit I can do to the stereo lines to bring them both up to line level or thereabouts before going to scart so that I don't have to constantly Adjust volume settings when switching machines?
#5
Looks exactly like mine did before I got rid of it. Classic doijindance
#6
It's not necessarily a power issue. I had the same issue when I modded my ifu. I tried every method and could not get a clean picture. Especially on solid blues. In the end I modded the PCE itself and took the rgb from there even while in the ifu. This has given me a perfect rgb and gotten rid of the problem. I think I made a thread you can probably find for screens

I came up with this fix originally on the Everdrive forum after buying a doijindance modded unit. Glad to see it being spread and evolved now that the other chap wrote some decent instructions.

I used a 7.5v Psone psu and had no issues tapping that directly via the fuse. When I tried the regulated 5v Line it didn't provide enough juice for the Everdrive to work.

I no longer have my duo as I have changed over to a classic briefcase unit

Mine arrived. It's great. The only problem is it made me realise my PCE isn't as white as I thought it was. Time for some cleaning!

First link is the one I meant yes

The other link didn't work

It's almost certainly the switch. If he goes direct from PCE to bnc adaptor without the switch does the problem persist?

There is only 1 good version of that type of switch and it is Hama

I have owned and tested it to be rock solid with PCE and other weak sync types

It has white writing that says Hama and is made of plastic, not metal. They do a cheaper version of the same switch with a lower profile and no white writing which is junk
#12
It's Almost certainly the switch. I have tried them all and most are junk. Post a pic of the switch please

The best switches you can fairly easily get are bandridge. There is also a good Hama out there but also some poor models so be careful

You can remove his epoxy with a hairdryer and patience

Pm sent

Thanks. What rating cap are we talking?

Please close this thread. I tracked it down to a faulty audio cable
#17
I currently use the phono from my ifu unit for my sound source so I can get the cd sound. I have a new problem that has just occurred where there seems to be some channels missing from the PCE audio. The music is coming through in stereo as always but some elements of the music have gone missing. It's like not all the sound channels are there

I don't think it's an issue with the PCE itself because I have tried my other 2 on hand PCE units and they all reproduce same issue. Is there something that could be wrong with the ifu? Where should I check?
#18
Keith did you manage to get this sorted? How did you wire things up?

There is a buzz on mine which I am determined to eliminate
#19
This is something I have been trying to get to the bottom of for a long time. I also have this issue with my PCE and SNES. I have found out two things which leads me to believe that this is something to do with the configuration of the Scart format itself. I could be very wrong though.

Experiment 1. I use a framemeister XRGB mini. I have two different input adaptors. Scart > XRGB and JP21 > XRGB

When using a Scart setup I always get the buzzing that increases with bright screens (Konami Logo is a good test). Using the same quality JP21 configuration on the same games with the same system results in what I would estimate to be around 80% reduction in buzz.

Experiment 2
I recently did a rgb mod on a White PCE and deliberately left off the audio L and R so no sound was being channeled via the Scart lead. My plan was to use the interface phono audio out to have a nice separate clean set of audio.
What I found was even with no audio at all connected via the Scart or the interface, I still got the buzzing sound which increased with brighter images. This astonished me considering audio was not wired up at all.

Very very strange

Ok I have completely ruled out the amp. I first swapped sync source from sync to composite and that had the same issue. I then completely bypassed the rgb lines to the socket and missed the amp. It made the colours go dark as hell but the problem remained. So I am at a total loss now what to try next after I have put everything back how it was
#21
They glued this sucker down :( I can't move it

I don't think there is a way to loosten this glue :/

Would the glue maybe cause this issue if it's being conductive in some way?

Quote from: Keith Courage on 01/05/2016, 10:13 PMYeah, so far every system seems to act a little different with RGB. Just last week I installed an amp in a pcengine IFU setup and it had no jail bars whatsoever. I didn't even do any of the cap additions or changes. All I did was take everything needed from the exp port pins inside the IFU. I used C-sync, not composite video for sync.

It's too bad we can't just toss one of these inside our consoles to fix everything.

Hi Keith

Do you have a guide you can point me to for getting c-sync when modding the if unit? Do you use an amp or just channel it from the pins to the output?

Thanks
#23
Thanks. I tried your advice and attempted to to tune it out using the black level. I was able to make it invisible at 35 but it completely changed how everything else looked which was no good. I did a bit of experimentation and tried the composite out, even with the framemeister and to dialled up to max sharpness the issue is not there, so I am certain now that the rgb mod is what is introducing this issue. Possibly a dodgy amp. I have taken a look and they glued the amp down so it will be a pain to remove, I am thinking if I can leave it there I'll get a different amp and try that. Are there any recommended ones? The one in my doijindance modded duo-r is handmade on breadboard but is crystal clear. I wouldn't be able to copy that
#24
Unfortunately I don't think it is that. It was one of the first things I thought.
I have tried replacement power supply and the original nec one via a step down convertor and it's the same issue
#25
Edited op with a much clearer picture (sharpness turned up highlights the issue)

Issue affects the top 1/3 of the screen
#26
I tried two different cables and it's the same result. These cables are crystal clear on my duo-r setup.

Both white and core grafx PC engines display the same issues through the interface which makes me think it's that.

The artefacts only appear in the top half of the screen, the bottom is clear. It's very distracting on horizontal scrolling sections

I checked on my duo-r and it's completely clean in comparison at the same parts of the same games.

I am also getting some diagonal noise which is really hard to get on camera when using my IF setup (see bottom right area of blue picture)

I believe sync is coming directly off one of the pins of the IF interface next to the rgb pins. I have a sync stripper that goes in to my framemeister so everything feeds through that. Is there another sync option that may fix it?

Here is the other diagonal issue:

Hello everyone

What a great forum.

First post here, I wondered if anyone can help with this odd issue I am seeing on some games

I have an interface unit which has been rgb modded by otaku's store in France

I have 2 different PC engine units which both display this odd artefact issue where solid colours look slightly corrupted or something, very hard to explain. Both PC engines (white and core 1) display the same thing and it's very noticeable when scrolling left and right

I am running through a framemeister and no other machine snes Genesis Saturn do etc has this issue so I don't think it's my switch or upscaler

Is there anything I can do for this?

Thanks
