@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Thanks for the info. I will look into it.

How does the Turbo Booster Plus' save feature work and does it lose it's saving capabilities over time? I just got one along with a TG-16 from a seller on eBay for $52. He had both of them As Is because he couldn't get them to work (turns out the game was dirty and only needed to be cleaned). So now I have two Turbos, which I wasn't expecting this one to work and a Turbo Plus! I've been trying to get one for years at a reasonable price (did I get a decent deal?). RF begone!

I had the auction bookmarked just to see what it would end at. At first I was skeptical on whether it was legit but then I noticed it was Aaron selling it. Congrats on getting more than you wanted.

Wow, that is amazing. It's a beauty.

Quote from: guest on 05/04/2009, 11:41 AMAdmittedly, the controls are kinda clumsy and the gameplay a bit shallow, but at least it's playable and challenging without being unfair; if you want to see truly worthless crap, go play Genpei Toumaden or Turrican.
I wouldn't put Turrican as worthless crap (I've played worse) but it's certainly down there. The first time I ever played it was on the Genesis. I tried it once, thought it was crap and didn't play it until I heard that Super Turrican came out on the Virtual Console. Surprisingly, the reviews of Super Turrican were very good and I thought that I might have misjudged Turrican so I tried to play it again. That didn't happen because the cartridge literally died on me. I tried cleaning it and no luck, then I opened it and the insides had rust.

It wasn't until two weeks ago that I got the Turbo version. After beating the game, my first impression wasn't far off. It's still a pretty bad game. Forget it being unfair, it's flat out BS most of the time. The only forgivable thing about it is that there were plenty of 1ups around, if you could find them. If it weren't for the buzz saw, the bosses would be nearly impossible to beat. Yeah, I don't think I'll be playing it for a good while lol.

@Arkhan: I like Vigilante a lot too.

I think Kung Fu is all nostalgia. It's a very overrated game in my opinion. While I'm not going to say that China Warrior is better than Kung Fu because it isn't, it's still pretty good for what it is. I didn't think the controls were a problem, if I made mistakes it was due to my controller not the game.

Hey I made a no-death run of the game. There's only review videos of it so I thought I would do this game a favor by recording a decent run and sharing it there. Critique would be nice Arkhan.

First Half
Second Half
At least it's longer than Vigilante. You can beat that game in less than 10 minutes.

So that's how you do a super punch. That really helped me out. I finally managed to beat the game. I didn't know the drunken master was the final boss. It's funny that although there's other acts, the high score caps at 999,999 and your lives will be left blank after you get more than 9. You'd think they would be able to put more than that. I got to Act 3, stage 4-3 and lost to the final boss.

Again thanks a lot Arkhan.

If you guys wouldn't mind, I really need some boss tips for the game China Warrior. The bosses I'm having the most trouble on are the Bruce Lee clones (yeah I know that's not him). Those are the only bosses I can't figure out a pattern where I won't receive damage. The only way I could beat them is if I get to them with enough energy, and I'll exchange hits back and forth. There's got to be a better way to beat them without getting hit.

I also managed to get to the drunken master at 4-3. That was a big surprise haha. Too bad my health is so low by the time I get to him that I don't have enough health to take him out. It's a good thing the jump kick actually works against him but damn I hate that his health replenishes when he drinks. XD

Alright so any game tips would be appreciated.

Quote from: ceti alpha on 04/27/2009, 10:50 AMThat sucks man. I wonder if there is anything you can do before gaming that would alleviate your motion sickness.  :-k
I wish there was something to help me out. So far I can't play flight simulators, Aero Blasters, the Virtual Boy and Contra 3: The Alien Wars lol.

@Mathius: Although I've had my Turbo for more than 10 years, I still consider myself a newcomer as I'm still learning a lot about this great system. I too am building up my collection but I only have a TG-16 at the moment. As of today I'm up to 26 games! Glad to have yah aboard man.

Here's my highest score.

Both Redifer and Nat are great for racking up points but Keranu... kind of sucks. Sorry Keranu lol. My favorite out of the three is definitely Nat. Covers wide range, and large bullets. Top tier gun!

Nice game. :)

I like his reviews. While they're done very well, there's one thing in particular that I enjoy the most of the them, he kicks butt playing games. There are so many video reviewers who complain so much about difficulty, and rate games poorly based on that.

A finally got a copy of AeroBlasters yesterday and sadly the second phase of the game gives me motion sickness. Ah my stomach is in pain right now and as much as I want to keep playing this game, I think I'm going to have to give up. This whole motion sickness thing all started about a year ago, and now it's affected my game time too. I can't even play the Virtual Boy anymore!  :(

Not a big fan of Fantasy Zone, well that's because I only played it a few times on the SMS and that's about it.

Alright I finally did it! Here's the video of my run if you guys want to see it. I did manage to get to 10k crystals too. I would recommend that you watch it in normal quality because when you change it to HQ, the frame rate seems to be off. It still doesn't look that bad in NQ anyways.

All right, I can finally share a score with you guys.

Hey guys, as some of you know, I'm trying to attempt to beat Lords of Thunder yet again (I love this game) but this time I'm trying to beat it without using the shop, on Super mode. It's been a real pain in the *** to be honest but I've enjoyed every bit of it. The boss rush mode has been a great help for practicing against the bosses and I want to thank you guys for letting me know about it. Although I still have a tough time against the lady boss from Auzal. I can't think of a quick way to take her out, and by the time I beat her, I've received several hits. The pattern I use isn't very reliable either. So far I've been able to beat about 4 stages but I still need a lot more practice playing on Cielom, Helado and Bosque.

Now here's my question to finish this off. Crystal cap is at 10000 right? Would it really be necessary to grab them, when they don't even increase your high score? Since I'm not using the shop, it's kind of pointless to grab them, because I'm not going to spend them at all. Or should I grab them anyways?

If I do pull this off, it would look more impressive finishing the game at 10000 crystals, grabbing whatever I can throughout the stages, instead of just worrying about dodging projectiles. Eventually when I feel that I can complete this run, I am going to record it, and put it on youtube so show to my friends and you guys too if you want to see it. There's several TG-16 games that I've uploaded on there like my not-hit run on Dragon Spirit and playing Vigilante. This would be one of my biggest gaming accomplishments, well next to what I did in SSBM.

So what do you suggest?
#15
I have the same problem. Poor Bonk doesn't jump high enough to land on top of her head. At least I can't do it.
#16
Great! I'm looking forward to it.

Here's me like 2 years ago at a Super Smash Bros Melee two day tournament called OC3.

Guess who.

Any difference in difficulty from TG-16 to Atari Jaguar? I have the Jaguar version.

I know this is the Hucard thread but since I don't have the game I thought I would share it here. Well this is what I got on that version.

5977260 Stage 4-7

I need to get this game asap.

Aaron, outstanding job man. I loved it! Do you think you'll ever make any desktop backgrounds out of this, just like the picture you have on the first page of this thread? I loved the Turbo Memoir ones that you made, and I still use them.
#20
They look fantastic. I really don't need them at the moment, but I'll look into buying them in the future.

Indeed it is. I think it's a pretty kick ass game.

I need to get some cases for a few games as well.  Oh and I also need a copy of SideArms because I got Vigilante with the case of that game. Better than nothing.
#22
Heh, that's genius. Anyways thanks a lot for the help everyone. I guess I chose the right armor after all but I'm going to need to practice to be able to pull it off without dying once. Overall it's just some motion patterns that I need to learn to avoid some of the stuff.
#23
Quote from: turbo D on 04/12/2008, 12:13 AMI used to use the water armor when I first started out. Now I use the fire armor because I believe it to be the most powerful and cool! Its kind of like the flare in SuperStarSoldier. Did you use the money cheat before beating it on Super?
What money cheat? Nah, I didn't know a cheat like that even existed.  #-o
#24
Awesome. This will definitely extend my playtime with the game. I'll be sure to submit my scores the next time I play.

About a few hours ago I finally managed to beat the game on Super mode. Yeah... I'm feeling pretty good right now. Struggled so much to do it but I kept on trying.

Well, I knew how badass this game was from reading some discussions around here and since I don't have a TurboDuo or the CD attachment for the TG-16, I decided to buy the VC version. About a day before the VC release, I read a review that explained that certain armors countered certain stages, similar to Mega Man. When I first got the game I tried them all out and the only one I liked was the Earth Armor. It seemed like it was the strongest one to use if you managed to have it maxed out. So I stuck with it, from normal mode all the way to super, although it was a lot tougher trying to beat it with that armor in that mode. At one point I was tempted to use the Water Armor but I felt I was taking the coward's way by using it. It's not that strong but it covers most of the stage. Wasn't much of a challenge.

So here's the question to you LoT experts, do some armors really benefit when used in certain stages or against bosses? I wouldn't mind learning some more tips because I plan to record a run of it if I get good enough to beating it without dying (died once on my last attempt).

This game flat out rocks, I was blown away the first time I tried it out.

Hey guys, long time no see.

Here's my FC in case any of you ever want to have a good ol Brawl battle.

As far as any Turbo related stuff goes, my collection hasn't gone up for a while now but I did get Lords of Thunder on the VC. Man that game rocks and it's a challenge too. Super mode beats the crap out of me all the time.

Yeah, small releases is good. This demo is looking great.

Scared me there for a bit. This is the first time I've seen something like this.  :-#

@Keranu – I rather not lol.
#29
Lol, it worked pretty damn well. Thanks a lot Turbo D.

Those reviewers were way off. I can see it being considered hard but ridiculously hard or impossibly difficult, no way. The game overall was easy for me except the final battle against the boss.
#30
It turns out my next game wasn't Aero Blasters after all, it was Dragon Spirit. I saw an auction on eBay that I had to bid on, the auction was 3 games, Dragon Spirit, Vigilante, and Tiger Road. I didn't have any of those games so I thought I'd give it a shot and I won. The only problem was that the owner had only one feedback so it was kind of risky, but not that many people bid due to that. I won the games for 18$ total and I finally got them today. S/he also gave me a free game, Bloody Wolf, so 18$ for 4 games sounds like a good deal to me.  :D

So now I have 12 games total and when I joined this place I only had 6. Hopefully I'll get more games soon like Aero Blasters, and the others you guys recommended.
#31
Heh, I just got the game about an hour ago and I got to the final boss on my first try but he beat me down pretty bad. I tried it again and he took me out again. Any pointers on how to beat this annoying punk? He really likes to counter you with his grab and kick every time you approach him.
#32
Awesome, from what I've read about Aero Blasters, I'm going to get that game next. I'm up for the challenge.

What about Dragon Spirit? I read something about it but I don't trust the guy after I read a few of his reviews. Remember that Nsider guy that I quoted on New Adventure Island, well he does weekly reviews on every new VC game and he loved Dragon Spirit calling it one of the best TG-16 games. He Highly Recommended the game while other games that you guys mentioned were good, like Blazing Lazers got a Not Recommended. He didn't recommend most of the TG-16 schmups except for Dragon Spirit.

Dragon Spirit Review
I remember mentioning that I had a thing against space shooters because they were mostly the same thing over and over again, whether we're talking about gameplay, graphics, music, or any other gameplay feature. Dragon Spirit, however, is hands-down one of the BEST space shooters I have ever played. Maybe it's because I love dragons to death... Nah. Or maybe because of the game's uncanny resemblance to RainbowBell (TwinBee, for all of you people who didn't play Konami Arcade Classics for the DS), a game that I love... No, perhaps this isn't the reason. It's because this game just rocks, plainly and simply. The graphics are some of the best on the TG-16, and the gameplay is fantastic. It's also not as hard as the space shooters usually come by, perhaps due to the fact that your blue dragon can sustain three hits, instead of the usual one-hit-kills dilemma present in the usual space shooters. Of course, we are faced with a different sort of problem... I'm sure that not a lot of you have heard about - or played this - gem of a game. Don't hesitate, though... This is worth it, and one of the best TG-16 games available on the Virtual Console right now. Now, whenever people are going to ask me which shooter they should get, I'm not going to tell them "Gradius III, R-Type III, etc.", but I will tell them to download Dragon Spirit, because that's just how great of a game it is. But don't take my word on it. Just go and download it! Also, I must make a note that after last week's highly disappointing Hudson release of the abysmal China Warrior, it's a relief to see that Hudson actually has great gaming taste. I really questioned their sanity after they released China Warrior, but now, all of those pointless grudges are now long past... For Hudson has redeemed themselves! Highly recommended.

Blazing Lazers Review
Not again. NOT AGAIN. Another space shooter. Not only am I now officially tired of this genre, but I'm even tired of typing about how tired I am. Blazing Lazers might have been good if it had some stand out features. You won't find anything redeeming in this game, it's just another standard space shooter. Sure, everything works, but how much more can we take?! I can't even bear to look at space shooters any more. Well... all except Xevious, because that game rocks beyond anything else. But in all due seriousness, don't get Blazing Lazers unless you want another space shooter (gasp). It's a tired stereotypical formula, and this particular game does nothing to reinvent - or even add on to - an already stale genre. No wonder the space shooting genre has died out... It seems as though no game developers really had any ideas to reinvent the genre! It's just the same old, same old, and I for one shall not stand for something like that. I am just flat-out tired and disgusted. How much more can we take? Obviously not recommended. ...But wait. Don't think that this game is bad in any way. It's actually quite solid all things considered. It's just that it doesn't have any redeeming features. Just thought I'd add this note.

Is Dragon Spirit as good as he makes it out to be?

Quote from: nat on 06/29/2007, 11:38 PMDo you have CD capability on your console? How about a region converter or mod? That makes a whole lot of difference.
I should have mentioned that I was only interested in the US Hucards since I don't have the TurboGrafx-CD or a converter. Thanks a bunch Nat and PhilBiker.

What shmups would you recommend? I just got Cyber-Core, my very first shmup for the TG-16 and I liked it. I rarely play these kinds of games so I want to buy some other ones for this system. I have Raiden for the Atari Jaguar so I wouldn't want to purchase it again unless it was completely different. If you guys can give me a list of games that you enjoyed playing I would really appreciate it.

Oh yeah, Stage 8 on Cyber Core was insane. The game goes from easy to crazy. I lost most of my lives but I managed to evade the blue insects at the end and I beat the game. It was a lot of fun.  :D

Quote from: guest on 06/25/2007, 03:49 PMI'd guess Neutopia, Air Zonk, and Bonk 3 as listed in the first post.
Ah, thanks for pointing out the list, I didn't know about it.
#36
China Warrior was released today. I wonder what's coming out next month?
#37
That was very well done, I really enjoyed watching it. Man, just watching these games makes me want to pick them up right now, but I have a long ways to go since I'm limited in funds. But it's nice to see videos like these so I can take a look at the games before I ever decide to buy them. I didn't know about the PcenginefxTV until I read the PM so I'll be sure to check out every episode.

Magnificent work.
#38
Beta testing, that's interesting. I've always wanted to try it out but I don't think I have the hardware to do it, or is this going to be through ROMs and an emulator?

I definitely have the time to do it since I'm out of school for a while. I've been playing video games non stop, just beating those games I had trouble beating during my childhood.

If you guys don't get 10 people before the deadline, I'll gladly help you guys out. :P
#39
Wow, this desktop art looks awesome. I really like the PC Engine one.
#40
One of my bros found it at a garage sale. It came with Final Lap Twin and Keith Courage. I'm guessing he got it around 95 – 97, I don't know when. I heard about this system from reading magazines and I knew someone who owned it in the early 90s. I asked her to sell to me but she didn't want to.

A few years later I found a store that sold TG games so we bought Bonks Adventure and Neutopia. The store was called Treasure Island, and it had a huge selection of systems and games. The owner moved about 4 years ago, his business probably wasn't doing well. A lot of the stuff was expensive.

So now my bro got married, and gave me the TG-16. His wife doesn't like when he plays games. What a dumbass, but good for me. :D He did take his Atari 2600. I hope his wife didn't trash it.
#41
This game was trashed by someone who reviews VC games every week on the Nsider boards. The TG-16 gets a lot of trash from people there.

Here's what he had to say about the game.

"In a no doubt controversial choice, I am not recommending New Adventure Island. Although it may seem like a solid platforming game, and at times it is, there's simply not much originality in the game. Sure, the skateboarding parts were new, but other than that, it just appeared to be a mix of Bonk's Adventure and Super Mario Bros... And ultimately that's what it is. If you have an insatiable urge to play a platforming game from Hudson and a prehistoric theme is your cup of tea, Bonk's Adventure is the better choice. Only download this game if you have downloaded all of the other (much better) platforming games on the Virtual Console... or if you just feel like getting it. But other than that, stay away."

Skateboarding parts were new. He's obviously never played any of the older games. The skateboard has been there since the beginning.

Btw, I've never played this game before and this is one of those games I'm really interested in getting. What do you guys think about it? I've played Super Adventure Island, and some of the NES ones. Should I get this one too?
#42
I still love my Virtual Boy. Headaches or not, it had some great games.

I never knew the 3DO was 700 when it first came out. I was shocked as well when they mentioned that Return Fire is considered one of the best games for it. That's one of the few games I have for it, but I just picked it all up at a flea market about a year ago. I guess I should check it out.
#43
I only have a TG-16 with six games. I've had it for a while now and I finally want to buy some more games for it. Possibly buy a Turbo Duo.

Games
Bonks Adventure
Splatter House
Final Lap Twin
Neutopia
Dungeon Explorer
Keith Courage

It's not much, but I hope to get some more soon.  :)
