@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Haha Quid, I knew someone would mention that.

It's my Tetris rug I made back in 2010, took around 3 months to make.

It's surprising how similar the TE looks to gameofyou's flash huey, I chose to go with gameofyou's card as oposed to the TE as gameofyou's card was cheaper and for my purposes 1 game being loaded on the card at a time is not a problem.

Finally decided to take the plunge and go for a flash card and I must say I'm impressed, playing through the english translation of Bubblegum Crisis atm.

Also been on a major Ys bender over the last few weeks... not sure if I'll like the change of genre but you never know!

Quote from: bartre on 02/06/2011, 09:33 PMI didn't think they could resurface a blu ray.
i've had a couple people bring discs in to me to try it, but nothing's worked, ever.
Correct, blu rays are layered so thinly that if you get a semi deep scratch in the non-scratch coating it corrupts the data on that layer, total bummer.

Update: I have to return Red Cliff for a full refund... I will own these movies eventually.

Oh tell me about it, they're effing fantastic!

I bought it from an Amazon seller called 'all your music' I've checked their T&C's looks like they'll accept returns within 3 days of item arrival if it is in different conditon to that described in the listing.... I'm guessing faulty/damaged counts in there somewhere. I've emailed them both through Amazon and directly so it's just a waiting game now.

I wouldn't care but I bought the blu-ray version of both movies together to replace the pirated versions I bought while in China in '09. Ironic thing is te Red Cliff 1 pirate came on 2 discs and the end of Disc 1 had a fault on that too where the last 20 minutes of the disc wouldn't play at all.

I'm cursed.  :-({|=

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, neither had I until now but I just got my first scratched blu ray  :(

I bought Red Cliff Parts 1+2 International version from the states as in the UK we just got a horrible butchered version and I wanted both films untouched, anyway the package came yesterday and I heard a disc rattling inside the case, being new and sealed I quickly unwrapped it and examined Part 1. One 3-4mm scratch on the disc, I've had little experience with blu ray but I knew they had a super protective coating so thought nothing of it. This morning I decided to give Part 1 a play through and at about 33-34 minutes in the video skips for a minute or two. I've emailed the seller about the problem. Disc 2 looks fine but I haven't tried it yet, it wasn't lose so there's no reason to assume there's anything wrong with it.

I'm aware it's very difficult to scratch one of these discs but since it happened during shipping and the seller used 'minimal' packaging ie card wrapped around the box, no bubble wrap at all for an international transaction. It does seem the blame in this case lies with the seller. Hopefully the seller can sort out a replacement/refund.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Hmmmm wierd, I've just preordered it. I'm guessing the delivery estimate is assuming Amazon don't get copies until release which is a little odd as in the past I've always gotten stuff on release or earlier from them. Oh well I won't get it until at least mid march anyway.... getting it shipped to a friend in the states who'll then ship it to me >.> I hate my country sometimes.

Quote from: guest on 02/02/2011, 04:18 PMHere's something different - a limey gouger with a PAL TG-16, flash cart, and four loose games for only 250 pounds (~$400).  Ignore the facts that the games are common as hell and the TG-16 and flash cart can be had for well under $100 each, THIS IS A ONE TIME DEAL!
Quote from: eBay gougerThis is ONE TIME DEAL.

This is ONE TIME ONLY OPPORTUNITY to receive a wonderful item you won't find anywhere else.
Le sigh, I hate these people that think there is only ebay for online purchases, I still see biddy lots going for more than you can find them on gameofjapan and they accept paypal! If this auction sells all the person who's bought it has proven is that they are lazy and can't lift a finger to actually do some research and get a better deal elswhere.

It'll no doubt have a soundtrack cd
YS 7 had the art book for all the up coming PSP YS games so I dont' think we'll get an art book.
Maybe it'll come with a DVD or something telling the story of YS for those new to the series perhaps... that would be cool.

In any case xseed should be announcing it soon enough.

Oh Destructoid's RetroForceGo! did TG16 too, episode 34 which can be found here. Though I would recommend starting the podcast from episode 1 and listen to them all, they may not be factually right all the time but the episodes ooze nostalgia especially for the NES and you can tell everyone on the podcast are friends in real life, the banter is second to none.

Tats try the PSP version of Metal Slug Anthology, it literally takes an age, first there's all those company logo's you can't skip then it loads the menu, you select your game then it loads again and it takes forever! I think some people have forgotten the key appeal of portable gaming, pick up and play.

I have to agree with the comments made about tutorials, I mean I don't mind a tutorial if it is disguised as a level only dropping hints on how to do things when required but when the game dumps you into a training ground I sigh, loudly. Training levels should be an option presented right after you click 'New Game' not forced upon you ruining your first impressions of the game.

If I was the hudson guy I dunno what I would do, maybe I'd go out and ask gamers what they want which would probably be everything listed in this thread then ensure that all games being published follow at least some of these rules. I'd also beta test every game to death so that the game isn't released with bugs, how many games today come out and there's a patch to fix some fault on day 1?

More YS7, I'm up to the wind temple and the bird boss just kicked my ass (I did get it down to below 10k health though), this is one fight where I think I need to do a little grinding and have both projectile shooting members of the party equipped, and I think it's time to upgrage everyones weapons and equipment!

Just finished Star Wars Force Unleashed for the first time in preperation for Force Unleashed 2, I must admit I was rather disappointed with it, mainly the controls and lack of fluidity of gameplay, meh.

Haven't really done much in terms of OBEYing recently, after my PCE-SCDROM2 decided to corrupt my YS-1+2 save file when I was almost finished kinda killed it for me, I'll go back to it over the xmas hols I think on the run up to the remake release on PSP.

I came across this article the other day about weird job interview questions and some of the responses, needless to say some of the answers had me in stitches. I've pasted the 19 from the article below. I think the weirdest question I was ever asked in an interview was 'If you were an animal, what animal would you be?' to which I replied 'Human.'

Quote1. What's the best email address you've ever seen and why? (Proud PR)
"Without a shadow of a doubt, DrReginaldHunterESQ@thenigerianlottery.tv -- I couldn't believe my luck the day his email dropped into my inbox with the news I'd won £1 billion African super-dollars."

2. Sell me my mug... (Ventura)
"I don't need to sell you your mug Sir -- you already own it."

3. How many golf balls are in the air around the world right now? (Yahoo)
"How many golf courses are there in the waking world? 70,000? Times that by 18 holes, then divide that by six for the probable number of people striking the ball simultaneously, plus driving ranges, then we need to... actually balls to it, like a bajillion?"

4. How many cricket balls are there in this room and why? (Eversheds)
"I can't see any. Oh wait there's one, and there's one. Oh look, there's another one. And another!... Erm, like eight, probably because you really like cricket balls."

5. If you were a dictator which dictator would you be? (Royal Shell)
"Darth Sidious -- easy."

6. If your life was an algabraic equation what letter or symbol would you be? (Google)
"I'd be the equals sign -- I always like to consider myself as the gateway to the answer."

7. How many hair salons are there in Japan? (Boston Consulting)
"There are between 1 and infinity hair salons in Japan"

8. How would you move Mount Fuji? (Microsoft)
"Lasers."

9. You're in a room with three switches which correspond to three light bulbs in another room, you're not allowed to use any other technical equipment. You can only enter the room with the bulbs once. How do you find out which switch works which bulb? (Goldman Sachs)
"I'd turn on one of the switches then go into the other room, and guess the other two, it's a 50-50 chance, I like those odds."

10. If you went bald, would you wear a wig or get a hair transplant? (Barclay)
"Pfff dunno, what did you do?... Mrs. Davies?"

11. What would you do if you found a baby in a basket on your doorstep? (Rogue Publications)
"Assume it was a vampire and raise it like Blade as a reformed vampire vigilante."

12. If you could ask God one question about life what would it be? (Medium Associates)
"What's the deal with white jeans? Are they okay?"

13. Do you think you're eulogy will start with a joke? (Foley PR)
"Only if it starts with a picture of your face!"

14. If you were locked in a room with a phone with no ring tone how would you get out? (Apple)
"I'd use the phone to smash the door down."

15. If it hadn't already been invented what invention are you most likely to come up with? (Apple)
"Marie Rose sauce. To be honest I'm kind of quite sure I invented it in the first place -- I'm not sure how news of it got out, but yeah, I love mixing condiments, it just comes naturally to me."

16. Do you think your parents are disappointed with your achievements? (Fisher Investments)
"They're disappointed with everything else about me, my grades, my sporting ability, my pale skin, my poor eye-site, my height, my political beliefs, my opinions, my singing voice, so I suppose it would follow."

17. Dogs or cats? (Havard)
"To be honest I think they both taste the same."

18. If you were a brick in a wall which brick would you be? (Nestle)
"The cornerstone -- without me, everyone falls down. And shatters. Into insignificant little pieces. That means you too mate, (*point at interviewer*) dust."

19. Rolling Stones or the Beatles? Why? (Andresands brewers)
"Beatles I'd say, you can't roll stones, let alone smoke them."

That's not entirely true, CD games are region free so you could buy a JP Duo-R and US Turbo CD releases will work on it.

As said before hueys are region locked and need converters and stuff to get to work. It all depends what you want to get out of the system, if you're into shooters then go the Duo-R route as it'll allow you to play all the JP only HuCard shooters and you'll still have the flexibility with the CD drive if you want to play english CD releases.

Thanks man, those are some great reviews! I've never read any of thebrothersduomazov reviews before, looks like I got some reading material for tonight!

As for the games reviewed, I'd be wrong to say they look interesting and deep, haha in fact they look like a shallow campy romp aimed at guys in their late teens/early twenties, I'm in it for the Mahjong and from the looks of what I see Mahjong Lemon Angel looks like it may have to be a purchase... though Mahjong Sword looks a lot like the one I played on AES.

Oh I know there's a TON of them on PCE but I'm looking for any that stand out... I know stupid question considering the genre but I played an interesting one on AES that played like an auto RPG where the character would walk around the villages and fields automatically and every now and again you'd have random encounters but the battles would be mahjong games.

Tats it says "No games found"

I even tried logging out of PCEdaisakusen and still "No games found"

Wait a minute... are you suggesting there are no good PCE Mahjong games?
#41
I know some people don't like the genre but a friend taught me how to play last year and I must say it really is quite an involving 'card' sort of game.... though I'm still not entirely sure how you score a hand when someone has won.

Anyway I've been playing the hell out of Super Mahjong TaiKai... mostly loosing as the computer doesn't seem to make mistakes of any kind and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for other PCE Mahjong titles they've tried that are any good... unfortunatly I'm well aware that along with J-RPGs some people seem to avoid mahjong games like the plague but in all honesty if you take a weekend to learn the game properly it can open a whole new genre up to you.

Oh I don't mind the game is 1 on 1 or 4 players, my friend taught me with his family set on a dinning room table and Super Mahjong Taikai is 4 player.

So yeah... any recommendations for some good PCE Mahjong titles?
#42
Wow, Kevin you blew things way out of proportion here. A longstanding community such as this one, who has been burned by repeated people coming on just to 'peddle their wares' would create an uneasy atmosphere in the selling forum. As others have said before you could have researched this forum a little, flicked through some older threads, got the general jist of the community before even considering whether here would be the right place to sell your stuff, it's a little more complicated than "Oh I have turbo grafx stuff to sell *ping lightbulb* sell them on a turbografx forum"

And all the stuff about paying full price, come on what is full price for these games? Retail? 1%RRP? 1000%RRP? Ebay is NO WAY to gauge the vaule of games, one game one week may make over $100 then the next only make $60 in that case what do you sell yours for?

There is no fixed price guide for TG-16 or PCE so that does mean you can sell for whatever price you want, but this is a community and people have opinions and views so don't expect a parade from the locals on this forum or any others you join when you don't participate in discussions and are only interested in selling your goods, then again it's been said before you could have checked the forums and saw that items generally sell lower than their ebay prices then you would have known this wasn't the place to sell your wares.

I've seen sellers gouge the shipping quite a lot on ebay recently, especially international shipping but to admit to intentionally increasing the price of postage because you think ebay is being greedy with the fees is rather hypocritical don't you think?

I don't even know why I'm wasting my time writing out this reply as no doubt all of your defensive replys are a result of your grieving for the loss of your mother. That does not however give you the right to snap at people and generally seclude yourself from the community more and more with complete unwillingness to join in any other discussions. I'm sorry for your loss but maybe arguing with people on an internet forum as much as it can let out the emotions probably isn't the best use of your time right now.

I hope you do stick around, this place can be a haven for help with techy problems and recommendations for games to try, banter, etc.

Peace.

I picked up YS7 from customs (bastards) and oh WOW! The music score, normally something I don't normally pay a huge amount of attention to grabbed me straight away. I just love how the boss battles don't really require you to be super high level to beat but rather rely on your on wits to figure out their pattern and then kick their ass! Good game!

Oh and Minecraft is sucking my life out through my eyeballs.

Living in England we didn't really get a TG-16 release here (dunno where all these new PAL-UK ones have popped up from recently) I remember when I was in High School and trying to find a replacement SMS, my mother was the type to have yearly clearouts of our older stuff, normally when we were at school so we wouldn't notice and the SMS went. After I managed to track down another model 2 with Alex Kidd built in I turned my sights to handhelds. I've always loved handheld gaming, in fact my first system was a big ol'fatty gameboy I got for my 4th birthday (my dad was a gaming nerd and wanted me and my brother to turn out the same way) and I loved it... At around 2002-03 ish I had became aware of the TG-16 thanks to wikipedia, my attention however was always drawn to the Turbo Express and the cards they used for the games, niavely I thought the cards were swiped through the system like a credit card (the wiki article did describe them as credit card sized) but prices always kept them just out of reach.

Anyway in mid 2007 a friend needed some cash (went over his student overdraft,  :-({|= tut tut) was selling a PC engine core grafx with a tenokoe 2 and a loose copy of Genpei Toumaden (most probably spelt wrong) I think he'd ebayed the rest of the games in the past but I know he needed the money ASAP. I bought it from him, joined this forum to get some suggestions for games and have been hooked ever since. I grabbed my PCE-CD unit in 08 and I haven't looked back. I think the appeal for me, getting into this so late on was that I had had a mega drive and a super nintendo throughout my childhood and I wouldn't say I was bored of either system but the PCE was something completely different, I'm still astounded they managed to fit Street Fighter 2 on a huey. Before the PCE I NEVER played shooters but now after playing Gate of Thunder, Soldier Blade, Download 2 and many many more I fell in love with the genre and in particular that era of shooters tracking down similar shooters for the MD and SNES.

So for me it was 2007, late to the party but I'm glad I'm here.

Oh all these covers, all the missed opportunities.

I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring with Splatterhouse 2. Made from scans of the PAL Splatterhouse 2 for MegaDrive and Dragon Spirit, I thought I was finished when I started looking for the Japanese text to pop on and what did I find ? Oh look the Japanese version is called 'part 2' not just '2' back to google, only image I could find of the Japanese MD version was a little blurry thumbnail which is where I got the 'part 2' from, the 'Splatterhouse' part is just from the PAL MD back cover.

Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in on this.

I remember when I first used rising stuff last year I ordered a few famicom games using PayPal as the payment method, order came and turned out that one of the games was wrong, I contacted them and they sent out a replacement, free of charge. I was fine with that mistakes can happen, I even offered to sent the wrong game back but they said I can keep it.

A few months later they had a few 6 button PCE controllers up for sale I decided to grab 2 of them, gone was the option to pay with PayPal, instead I had to sign up for a google checkout account... A bit of a pain considering I knew I'd never use the account again but I thought it'd be good to have to use with rising stuff if the pay by paypal option wasn't coming back.

Some more time passes and I look to buy again, I don't remember what it was but I do remember when I got to the checkout that the option for google checkout was now gone too! The only option available now was to pay with credit card directly only (or use the paypal toolbar which isn't/wasn't available in the UK at the time)... something I refuse to do.

I haven't attempted to buy from them again although I will pop across every now and again just to see what's been listed. From my experiences I found that having to pay by a different payment method each and everytime I tried to buy something to be a little irksome, I don't mind when an order goes wrong (unless I'm buying for a birthday present and the delay means the replacement won't get to me in time) as long as it's sorted which in my case it was.

I can understand how some people have had problems with items not coming through etc. We're importing this stuff from another country and no matter how much tracking you put on a package they can still go missing and do. As for the rather questionable business practices mentioned previous and in other threads linked, if it's all true, the selling of items they don't have in stock and sending warning letters to users who voice their own opinions and experiences then they should be thankful they're having the 'best year so far' even with all this negative PR.

Lack of consistency is keeping me away from future purchases and will continue to do so.
