I have Zenki. Fun game, but don't overpay for it.

I remembered seeing this game being advertised in magazines years ago and wondered why it didn't make it out of Japan. Placed my order on June 22 and got it yesterday. Haven't had a chance to play it.

Started Ys III: Wanderers from Ys last night. The audio from the opening scene skips to the end about halfway through on my copy. The narrator's voice is pretty bad, so that's not really a bad thing.

There's an option in the game where you can play it in English. The in-game almanac, I think, is in Japanese regardless of which option you pick, but you don't really need it. It's an easy game, just keep in mind that the world geography has changed since the late 80s.

This is great news to hear! Didn't think there would be any other translations besides Pia Carrot, but two new ones is something I'm looking forward to seeing. :D Good luck to both of you on these new projects.

Mine came in the mail last week. I'm impressed with the manual/poster/stickers. The overall packaging looks clean and top notch. Gotta burn a CD of the enhanced soundtrack and finish up another game before tackling this one.

I went with Intellivision, but I could have cheated and voted for the 2600 also. Had an Intellivision II with the system changer, so I played games from both systems. Played a lot of River Raid, Enduro and Pac-Man (didn't know any better at that time) on the 2600. Played a lot of Night Stalker, Lock n Chase, Bump n Jump and the He-Man game on the Intellivision. I didn't play Tron - Deadly Discs until a few years ago and it is as good as everyone has said.

Yeah the Intellivision controllers are queer.  Im convinced thats why the console didn't demolish atari 2600.

I like the Astrocade controller.  DAMN are those gangstalicious.
They leave a nice indentation on your palm after a while, at least they do for me. If a game uses the number pad, don't put the overlay in the controller. It makes the buttons less reliable. You'll be pressing 5 and wondering why it works half the time. Yeah, those Astrocade controllers are nice. They look like a bomb detonator.

I picked up a TG16 w/CD add-on back in '06, but I knew all about the Turbo growing up. I saw ads for Splatterhouse and Vigilante in the back of comic books I had in the early 90's along with reading about it in EGM. I do remember trying to convince my parents to pick one up when it being discounted, but they wouldn't spring for another system. (My brother and I already had a NES & SNES) I even tried to convince my Mom that Ys I & II would work on the SNES.  :---) I had forgotten about it for some time until I found an old advertisement for the Super System Card in my room. Must have saved it for some reason. Glad I did.

I would play if I had a copy of the game. I'll have to "find" it and see if it will work on my system.

My favorite part? I made it into the Feedback section. Huzah!

The Ninja Spirit review was spot on. Except that ninjas are cooler.

Great job, sunteam_paul. Can't wait for the next one.

Played and beat Vigilante over the weekend. Easy brawler. I made it to the last boss on my first play through. Cover art for the PC Engine version is cool. JapanTokei - Damn, I didn't know there was a Dynasty Warriors game for the PC Engine. I'll have to pick up a copy. Those screen shots look fantastic.

Whoa, that's nice.

I'm really kicking myself that I missed sunteam_paul's UHF mockup until now. I want to play a 3rd person shooter as Gandhi. Or a point-and-click adventure game about Spatula City. Or teach poodles how to fly.

Quote from: blueraven on 07/30/2010, 12:45 PMI'm going to start quoting "The Great Gatsby" a chapter at a time in this thread if this continues.
In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since.

"Whenever you feel like criticizing any one," he told me, "just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had."
------

There is something to be said about a person's character if they would knowingly sell a game at an inflated price when the game's author is still actively selling it. Especially if the two people know each other. That's just cold in my book, no matter what the reasons or intentions behind it.

I'd take Necromancer's advice and try out a few ISOs to see if you like the games. Youtube has plenty videos showing gameplay. It's not a system for everybody.

This is great. The retro theme is perfect. It looks like it came out back in the 80's.

Yep, Laseractive units do not ship well. The one I bought a few months ago had the same problem that kattare & hoobs88 had. The tray wouldn't open. Had to take it apart and realign the tray. There's a service manual that shows you how to take it apart. Here's the link: http://www.cyberroach.com/new_laseractive_pics/misc/clda100_repair/servicemanual.htm. Very helpful.

Quote from: DJLobo on 10/15/2009, 10:05 AMIf the game has a good story/fun to play, I don't mind a challenge. Those YouTube people should quit crying and get back to playing. Guess they aren't as good as they thought they were.

If I'm going to spend $60 on a game, I want my money's worth, so 10 hours of gameplay doesn't cut it.
sometimes I agree with the 60$ needs more than 10 hrs thing, but then I look at it like this, Contra and stuff on NES can be beat in <1hr, so I can't complain about a new game at retail being ONLY 10 hours long.  Though I'd much rather them be 30+

lol @ Karate Kid.   Everyone that sucks at that game confuses me.   Its such an easy game!
I'm just a little peeved that the new games are back to $60, when they were $50 back in the 90s and for a good chunk of this decade. I just gotta wait longer for the price to drop down. Back in the NES days, they justified a $60 price because of the computer chips in each cart and packaging.

30-40 hours is probably the sweet spot for gaming. If it's over 40+, it damn well better have a good story/gameplay.

Quote from: guest on 08/17/2009, 01:14 PMG.I. Joe: The Rise of Fail

What a piece of shit.  I was expecting it to kinda suck, considering the universal panning by reviewers and Hollywood's unerring ability to piss on every franchise they try to resurrect, and man o' man did they ever deliver.  Essentially, it's a two hour long chase scene / explosion interspersed with lame dialogue, piss poor acting (though Gordon Levitt wasn't half bad), and oodles of flashbacks.  I found the latter most annoying - if you don't know the characters already, then you probably don't care about their back story; if you're familiar with the characters, then you'll be pissed at everything they got wrong.  To top it off, this was one of the grainiest films I've ever seen on a big screen.  I swear, this train wreck looked like it was shot on grandpa's Super 8.

P.S. - Did you know that ice sinks?
Yep, that's why I'm avoiding this film like the plague. Besides, there's a much better G.I. Joe film that came out earlier this year on Adult Swim.

I've got a TG-CD system that works well, with one oddity. If I haven't used it in a while, I have to connect the CD player directly to the power supply and give it some juice by hitting the play button. Then, I can put it back on the docking bay and everything will run great. I don't why I have to do that, but it works.
#44
Great job. I hope I never have to do a laser swap, but this should be helpful to anyone trying to do one.

I must say, the dude has excellent taste.  8)
I thought somebody would dig that line. Over in the racketboy forums, somebody has posted their impressions: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=14307. They've built in a save state feature, which you can apparently use to import and export saves in between the PS3 and PSP.

Hudson is putting out 4 PC-Engine games on the Japanese PSN Store. Titles are: Bomberman '94, Devil's Crush, New Adventure Island and Sengoku Mahjong. Here's a link that has links to the Japanese press releases from Sony & Hudson: http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/15/japans-playstation-network-offering-pc-engine-games/.

Maybe, just maybe, we could see some Turbo/PC-Engine titles in the U.S. or Europe. I can only hope.

Asteroids...nah, that's going to be a crapfest. If they made a movie based off of Robotron 2084, I'd see it. Michael Bay could direct it.

3x3 Eyes (PCE) has a long box, because they included a VHS tape of anime with it.
