I got my copy from someone in Japan who's copy was supposed to be directly copied from an original "prototype". If that story (by Thibault?) is true about a secret pact by a group to keep the game for themselves, the person who made it for me could likely be one of those people.

Anyways, I've never noticed any music tracks cutting out and I remember a Yoshi's Island style crayon cinema ending. But maybe it's just an advertise mode I'm remembering since I haven't played it in years. But I do know that I've never played an iso/mp3 version.

I confirm that story. I told it many times, that's how it leaked originally.
And my SFZ copy (which i got that way 10 years ago) has of course an ending.
The 2 pics you posted are 2 out of the 4 pictures displayed in the end (the last 2 ones, actually).
I made a video of it. Showing me passing the whole stages with select buttons,and going to the end.

Knowledge of japanese is not required to play thru the game!  Also, it's technically called The Last of Dragon Slayer.  Not sure if that means, it's a part of Dragon Slayer 8, or if it litterally is 9, kinda of like how Legend of Heroes 1 & 2 together are aka Dragon Slayer 6.

First, im only 21. ;) 20 years ago I wasn't doing much of anything.  Being late for playing? Its never too late to game. Playing for only 1 hour? lol.  Gaming is pretty much my life.  And im not talking just video games here. tabletop too.  I put 10+ hrs into games a day.  But like I said, its not a competition really and Im glad you actually play stuff instead of amassing goods that never get used.  comparing numbers is a waste of time.  I never said anything about playing another system besides pce making you "less of a gamer".  You're jumping to conclusions and putting words in my mouth.

About playing,you're 20 years late.
I played most of my game back in the 90s, i played thousands of hours on my PCE and I loved every minute of it.
But you playing 1 hour in 2009 doesn't make you more a gamer than me playing 10 hours in 1995. It's not a competition, there is no "update" needed.
Besides, i can't have time to play PCE only, when i'm dedicated to 24 other systems. I love playing MD or SFC as well. 1 hour playing SFC isn't worth "less" than playing 1 hour PCE,that's ridiculous. thinking that would be elitist to the ultimate level.

We decide to release it for free to everyone, in France at least using SMS Power platform,which is worldwidely known because my friend Omar is the guy who created the best SMS emulator ever (Meka).
We used his "renommee" to touch the most people we can with this free release. To break the profit logic.
So basically,maybe the guys who got you the game (then you got it,finally) was from a worldwide release that a bunch of guys, including me, decided. How ironic is that? LOL.

What I'm saying is that we donated (i donated $150,so did the others) for this game, along with George Palamara (if that name occurs to you?) getting in touch with a japanese collector.
and this collector,known in japanese pce collectors circle,asked to NOT SHARE IT. that was HIS wish. Someone broke this wish. Cutting us out of the way getting more ever from them.
Then i'm telling you now: go try get one now.
Because of 1 stupid move,everything has fallen apart.
The most clever way for anyone,including you, would have been to get everything,and then share everything at the same time once everything was obtained.
But NO, it didn't work that way.

We donated for the release.  At the time, it wasn't released ANYWHERE. The money was collected,and we got the game, but nobody was supposed to share it. Then i remember a BT Garner's friend/person he knows (so was told on smspower board) was selling it for making bucks on Yahoo Japan. That was a huge shock, to see such "betrayal" was possible. I remember huge hate towards BTgarner back at the time,in french forums. Don't know if that was deserved at all.
The sales being seen on YJA, a majority of the donators decided (not me only,many of the forum who donated) that the best way to cut the crap out,is to release it for free. To everyone, not just the few of us.
At that PRECISE moment, it was released wildly.But that was NOT the original plan at all.
