Come take part in our exciting 5-player Battle Lode Runner and Bomberman 94 tourney matches. Quote from: TheClash603 on 04/05/2018, 12:00 AMI really enjoyed Gale Racer on Saturn. I used to play this game all the time in the arcade in the moving car, so it may be nostalgia talking.
That's how I remember playing it too. I spent a ton of money playing it back then because I loved how the car moved (much like the earlier After Burner game). It was pricey, but worth it.
Next time you make a return visit to the windy city, make sure to stop by Galloping Ghost Arcade. They have Gale Racer there. :)

Another fun year in the books! Thanks to all of you guys that stopped by. We shared some neat stories and had ourselves some very fun tournaments!

To those who attended, feel free to comment about the event and/or the convention.

Here are several pictures I took at the show. Sorry, they are not the best quality. Hopefully others have pics to share as well.

Quote from: Bardoly on 07/28/2017, 11:45 PMIs there anything that it would help if I brought? i.e. extra controllers, specific games, a system, etc...
If you have a Turbo Everdrive, that would come in handy, otherwise hardware-wise, we are good! Thanks!

Quote from: Bardoly on 07/28/2017, 03:21 AMWell, I was able to get some much-needed practice in for Darius Plus and Battle Lode Runner. Unfortunately, I'm still not very good at either... ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

At least I'm definitely coming, and bringing someone, too! I'll see all of you there.
Good to hear Bardoly! Looking forward to seeing you again. The more competition we have in the tournaments, the better!

The prizes are here! If you place in first or second place in any of our tournaments, you can take home a trophy!

I don't know anything about that movie and can't figure out which one is Sparky.
Me neither, I don't see any of them carrying a glass of red wine.

Do you have to input a cheat code to play in arcade mode? There is no menu in the game. I would assume everybody but gheebee has played this in normal mode.

+1 for recommending Kabuki Quantum Fighter. It's one of the coolest games I have ever played. You can swing on platforms using your hair! 'nuff said.

Quote from: esteban on 04/27/2017, 04:10 PMWAIT! This date didn't interfere with my vacation... I might be able to go to Chicago! I have to figure out the best way to get there....

No promises.

But this date might work!

12 hour drive from NJ.

My recent 12-14 hour drive from NJ to South Carolina nearly killed me.
This doesn't interfere with your annual Maine trip?!?! <-Keeps fingers crossed! [-o<

Quote from: guest on 04/29/2017, 12:54 AMMan I wish I could make it this year, but it doesn't look like it'll pan out. So much fun!
Thanks for the good words. Sorry you can't make it to VGS, but it was nice seeing you at MGC. :)

Quote from: guest on 04/04/2017, 09:30 PMchany how is Line of Fire? I still need that one!
It is a fun game! It reminds me of Jackal on the NES, but it is vertically auto-scrolling so it also feels like a shoot em up. The best part about the game is that it has a hidden 3D mode. You get a nice sense of depth as walls rise high, trees loom, and canyon appear to be pretty deep. I highly recommend it if you have the glasses!!

Like everyone else is saying, open the game! Besides, it comes with an awesome sticker sheet with characters from the game that you most likely won't find if you obtain a used copy of the game.

Found this wireless joystick for the Turbografx yesterday at an estate sale. It's not that great of a controller, but for $2, I am not complaining.

Another successful Turbo Fest. There was much fun to be had by all as we had great participation in the tournaments, especially for Battle Lode Runner and Bomberman 94. Henshin Engine and Lucretia were a lot of fun to play. We received lots of positive feedback regarding these two games. I wish I had taken more pictures. I was having lots of fun taking part in the tournaments and talking to my fellow turbob peops as well. Hopefully others like Flare can post pictures as well.

You should definitely come, especially if you are close by. The Video Game Summit is a smaller convention than the bigger ones you hear about like MGC and such. Usually a couple hundred people show up. But we always make sure the turbo is well represented. :)

Quote from: TheClash603 on 04/02/2016, 10:47 PMI am stopping in Chicago on the way up and catching White Sox opening day on Friday. I just saw the high is 40 degrees on Friday, which I wasn't expecting when I booked a few weeks ago. I thought that the midwest was supposed to be warm and summery, so much for my tropical vacation plans to escape wintery Bufaflo, NY.
HA! I too am catching the Sox home opener. Looks like we have very similar weekend plans. Where are your seats? 40 degrees is going to suck for a baseball game
I haven't bought my tickets yet, I am betting on Stubhub getting cheaper as the forecast solidifies as freezing. I am going with two friends that have very little interest in spending money, so they will probably force me into crappy seats.

I have gone to a few Cleveland Indians and Buffalo Bisons openers which have been similar or colder weather, but I don't know why.
Ah man, I wish I could be at the Sox game too!! If only I weren't so busy at work. :/ But I will be at MGC this Saturday.

I had some pretty good luck at an estate sale today. I picked up a boxed Turbografx for $20. It didn't come with a power cable, but that is okay.

I also got the turbo games for cheap at that same sale. I can use these for the orphan hueys I have. Last week I picked up the Final Fight CD game at a local shop.

That is one cool looking bumper sticker. Please sign me up as well.

I have only played the PC Engine version of Double Dragon 2, so I have nothing else to compare it to. But for what it is, it's a fun game. The AI puts up a good fight as they are resourceful and always pick up weapons lying around. But they are not overly cheap like in some other beat em ups. I find the difficulty of the game to be just right. The game plays nicely in 2-player mode. If you can find it for a reasonable price, I recommend it.

I'd like to enter. :)

Quote from: esteban on 07/25/2015, 07:32 AMIs that majors playing Nam75 the entire time? I remember this video from a few years back, I love the TurboFest atmosphere of happiness and turbob.
Well, majors did stop playing Nam momentarily when it was his turn to participate in the Sonic Spike tournament. :P

But yeah, major props to joshuaTurbo for capturing the essence of the fest via the recording. Of all the different fests that we have done over the years, that event was probably my favorite.

Sonic Spike is a fun game with friends. This video shows clips of the 20 person tournament we did at Octurbofest a few years back from 1:56 to 4:14.

Quote from: guest on 07/20/2015, 10:44 AMSo based on the recent discussion of Mystic Quest I decided to pick up a copy given that it goes for so cheap. I have never been able to get into RPG's so my thinking is maybe if I play something that was designed for newcomers to the genre maybe I can ease into it and eventually enjoy the many good games of this genre. Thoughts? Am I started with too simple/terrible of a game that I will be turned off for good?
Personally I think Super Mario RPG is a better choice if you're not used to playing that genre. It has some platforming, but it does a good job getting you used to RPGs. It was my first RPG.

Quote from: BigusSchmuck on 07/15/2015, 06:18 PMLots of great rpgs for the system. Can't say I enjoyed much of any other genre on that system.
Yeah, that's a good list and why I loved the system. Some more I would add:
Wild Guns (surprisingly fun, glad I ran into imports like this thanks to emulation)
Wild Guns is one of the best rail shooters i've played.I had a friend make a repro of the game for me.Sure,it's not official but the price for a original isn't worth it to me.
Totally agree on Wild Guns. It is one of my top five favorite SNES games. Not many games like it. Nam-1975 is similar, but it's very hard. The only bad thing I will say about Wild Guns is that the controls feel a little awkward. The lasso mechanic doesn't work very well as you have to tap the shoot button to execute it. Sometimes you shoot when you're trying to lasso and vice versa.
