I hope that guy got banned or something.  Anime4ever, I mean.

Same here.

Quote from: BigusSchmuck on 02/01/2013, 11:30 PMCouldn't you just rip the text from the PC game our the nes version?
It seems like that's what they actually did for the actual NES version, and... in some cases, that seemed to have caused errors (chests always have the "blade" trap, regardless of what actually happens to your characters, "Varn" mispelled as "Barn," among other errors).

I'd rather someone actually check and make sure the text actually fits, and make sure there isn't new text that has to be accounted for.

EDIT:  About that review... I'm not entirely sure if its as massively different as we're being led to think.  The NES version started you out with premades, but there was a way to customize them (basically make new characters in the process).  The guy says there's no alignment-changing and that there's an attempt at a storyline now, but outside of an opening cutscene I don't see any proof that this is true.  For all I know, he might have just not found the fountains or whatever that change alignment and allow you to customize characters.

Quote from: T2KFreeker on 01/22/2013, 03:35 PMBoss, by chance is the Megaman 2 CD image going to release anytime soon? I wants to play!!!
Pure speculation: Bonknuts is only releasing the hucard ROM at this time to avoid another anime4ever debacle.
What "debacle" would that be?  I googled and didn't find anything that sounded similar to this.

I like these games because they're quick, simple fun that don't really feel as daunting or like they're much of a commitment.  For that reason, they're a nice break from genres such as shmups or fighters (my recent addictions) which demand all sorts of skills from the player and basically don't allow you to make mistakes.

I also sometimes can't tell whether I want to play games or watch cartoons, so these give me the best of both worlds.

Quote from: JoshTurboTrollX-16 on 02/27/2013, 10:30 AMYou own a PCFX?
Nope.

I might check out the Digital Comics anyway even though they're not the kind of game I'm looking for.

Today I played "Revenge of the Ninja" for the Sega CD, and I liked it.  Lately I've had eye trouble which makes it hard to play shooters and platformers, but I found this type of game to be really fun and just my speed for the current moment.

So are there any games in this lieu for the Turbo CD?  (I don't care what region the games come from)

Quote from: guest on 10/23/2012, 02:39 PMA few weeks back I went to the Japan Matsuri in London. They had a manga wall these where you could draw what you liked, so naturally I couldn't resist.
mangawallOBEY.jpg
I'm not sure what I respect more...

The fact that you drew something Turbo-related, or the fact that you DIDN'T draw something Pony-related.

Quote from: Nando on 12/10/2012, 10:16 AMI don't know about that. I guess if you want to take it "RETRO" you could have a "stiff" character, but even then, the stiffness was due to the limitations of the platforms.

Even the smallest amount of animation helps. An eye blink, small "breathing" like movements.  Secondary animation is pretty important.

IMG
Wanting to look retro is one reason for "stiffness," but another could be context.

I see your Steamboat Willy there, and that works... for Steamboat Willie.  If you had someone from Spawn, Batman the Animated Series or Transformers bobbing around like that though, it would look rather... wrong.  Also anime has shown how sometimes stillness can be artistic (Vampire Hunter D is a very good example of this).
#10
I kind of disagree with him about one thing:  the "always be moving" part.  There are certain styles and types of characters who just look wrong if they're constantly animating.  Sometimes a "stiff" character works.

Other than that, seems like some solid advice.

Just a thought that came to mind.  I'm imagining that Hucard games make up a very small fraction of the Engine's library.  A part of me kind of wants to go for a complete Huey collection too.

On a side note, a part of me wishes the hucard format would make a return somehow.  With today's technology, the storage space problem would be practically nonexistant.
#12
I wouldn't mind having Beyond Shadowgate if I could get it cheap
#13
Whoa, your collection makes me jealous.  So many Turbo games... I only have, like, nine or so.

You ever try to play Metal Gear Solid 4?  WTF was that shit!?!?

I played the first MGS and thought it was overrated and boring.  I sat out parts 2 and 3 because of that feeling, but figured I'd give it a try again at MGS 4.  Hardly a game, more like a movie.  If that is what I wanted, I would've put on The Great Pyramid and at least learned something.
The MGS games have their educational moments too...

And the second is one of my favorite games of all time. But the third one killed the series IMO.

But as for retro gaming, most of the reasons stated go for me as well.  Particularly the relative simplicity and "pick-up-and-play" mentality.  Even RPGs, a genre where you're supposed to get "immersed," I find most modern ones are more like an anime series that they did as a game for some reason, while the older ones were, well, actually GAMES.  Shallow and simplistic games as often as not, but at least I'm actively participating in the story and not just watching an anime.

(Not that I mind watching an anime... but there is nothing quite as galling as being on a thirty-minute-long cutscene which you can neither pause nor skip, and then you have to go to the bathroom)
#15
Maybe you could get the Wii U, and trade it in for that copy of Beyond Shadowgate.
#16
I may be wrong but isn't Cadash a side-scrolling RPG?
#17
Just jumping in to say:

If you don't like Xak, give it to me!  (Loves me some Action RPGs...)
#18
Sorry I'm late (and also that I disappeared from these forums for like a year), but my two cents is...

The way I see it, another ACD game justifies owning an arcade card.  So I'd love to see it.
#19
Cho Aniki.  I'm not sure where to start.

Also the first time I started up Raiden... that soundtrack.  Man.  That soundtrack.  To this day I still think the TG16 music sounds better than the version on the PS1.

EDIT:  Posted in wrong thread by accident.
#21
Quote from: BlueBMW on 12/11/2011, 10:37 PMI gave out 496 of them to be exact.... though 101 went to a specific person, the rest were distributed all over the world.
So it would be totally appropriate if I took out my copy and told it:

"What strength!  But don't forget there are games like you all over the world."
#22
Nonono, I mean, I could swear I've seen slope-slopes.  Like ramps and stuff.  I'm sure its not limited to just stairs.

As soon as I get home I'll look.
#23
Quote from: OldRover on 12/08/2011, 08:24 PMBtw Arkhan, not to nitpick but... the original DOOM didn't have slopes.
Uhh, what?  I'm pretty sure I've seen Slopes in Doom, and not just staircases, and not just in the source ports.

Otherwise what you said about the engine is pretty accurate.
#24
I already have one so count me out, but I gotta ask where these keep coming from.
#25
Well, I'm starting to feel more confident with all the info I've found thanks to this thread.  After hearing about the Toodles Cthulhu and seeing the pictures, on canonspike, I think I can probably figure out how to mod these sticks.  It's not like those Pelicans were gonna go anywhere soon anyway.

Someone mentioned that Happ had changed.  Well, they're apparently called Suzo-Happ now.  I wouldn't know anything about the quality of their parts though.
#26
What is Games Express?
#27
Canonspike's Pelican article talks about modding but keeping the original PCB.  THAT'S A VERY BAD IDEA because you can't use it on a PS2 without risking damage.

His Tekken 5 article is just pictures with no explanatory text, it's "under construction."
#28
I wish I could find an Arcade Card Pro for $30.  I usually see them for about $50 on the 'Bay.  Granted though, they usually have the case and documentation, not sure if that adds to the price or not.
#29
Has anyone found threads, blogs or websites that deal specifically with the Pelican Real Arcade Universal and the Hori Tekken 5 stick?  Those are the main sticks I'm gonna mod.

On Shoryuken I read about something called a Toodles MC Cthulhu.  I'm thinking of putting those in one of my Pelicans and if I'm satisfied with it, I'll put it in my other sticks.  I think I'm gonna mod the Pelicans with Happ parts (anyone got a good deal going on those?  I prefer convex buttons) and the Tekken 5 with Sanwa parts, and if I like it enough I might get another Hori to put Sanwa parts in, then I'll have two sticks of both the American and Japanese persuasions.
#30
PS2 primarily, and I'm probably just gonna get adapters for other systems.
#31
Quote from: BigusSchmuck on 12/03/2011, 10:58 PMSo I got to thinking last night when I was playing Wizardry IV for the billionth time, why in the world have people not translated the rest of the text in those games?
I imagine it has entirely to do with that English speakers are largely ignorant of Wizardry existing outside of Nintendo and the PC.
#32
I heard about the size issue with buttons on the Tekken 5.  What size buttons does it take?

Honestly I might just sell it and put the money towards getting some Happ parts, but I did kinda like the stick and I was getting used to the Japanese style.
#33
I'm trying to learn Japanese too, but lately I feel like I'm running up against a brick wall.  I've been playing [[http://lrnj.com Slime Forest Adventure]] to reinforce my lessons but honestly, I keep forgetting Kanji, or getting them mixed up.

And when I study in general, I keep losing interest, or feeling like its not sticking.  And I've tried classes, conversations, memorizing songs, translating import manga... its honestly got me worried that my brain might have a defect that prevents it from learning a foreign language.  I swear I would freaking do brain surgery on myself if that turned out to be the case...

So yeah, I want any advice you can give too.
#34
I'm sure that if it could be done on a freaking Apple IIe, then it can be done on a PC Engine.  I mean, the system has flight sims and first-person dungeon crawlers already so we know its doable.

(Actually... does the PC-Engine have a flight sim?  I assume it does but I've never heard of one...)
#35
I'd buy one.  Especially if it had Bravoman.  BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO
#36
Go ahead and post your links, Duo_R, though I probably have seen some of them before.  I used to lurk at the Shoryuken forums but I hate how they've become (really hate that banner thing at the bottom of each page).

I'm feeling a lot more confident after reading Samurai Ghost's post.  Question:  I have an Intec PS2 controller that I took apart to clean once, and never put back together, would this be a good replacement PCB?
#37
Quote from: guest on 12/01/2011, 10:17 AMIf you want baby steps, Keen is your answer.  It's a simple platformer.

Ultima introduces the concept of first person dungeons and space-shooterthingy (Star Raiders ripoff).
That doesn't mean its gonna be more complicated.

Dude, Ultima:  The First Age of Darkness was programmed in 1980 (that's almost a whole decade before Keen).  In BASIC.  By a single man.  I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to crack.

I just voted for Keen because I'm in the mood for platformers lately.
#38
So lately, I've been into fighting games, particularly SNK's King of Fighters, Fartal Fury and I might get into Art of Fighting soon too.

This, naturally, leads me to want to play with an arcade stick.  But I only have three, of them, one (a Hori Tekken 5) seems to be going bad (one button has bouts where it won't respond) and the other two, a pair of Pelican Real Arcade Universals, are known to damage consoles.  I've heard I can fix this if I switch out the PCB with that of a normal Playstation controller, but I have absolutely no idea how to do that.  And then there's all this stuff about the different manufacturers--Sanwa, Happ, some euro guys I can't remember, whoever else... and it all gets confusing.  I don't even know what a "dremmel" is.

So, should I even try to do this myself, or should I just find someone to do it for me?
#39
Quote from: guest on 11/30/2011, 01:57 PMUltima 1, 2 and 3 can be done with no text input, and as it stands, Ultima IV, V, VI, and VII were all ported to NES/SNES and had no text input required.  They simplified the communication for console releases.
And by "simplified the communication" you mean "turned VI and VII into freaking Zelda games."

Although, a port of Ultima Eight would be interesting (that was practically a Zelda game anyway...)
#40
This was a hard vote for me, between Keen Dreams, Ultima and D&D.  While I would love to see all of those Turbofied, ultimately I had to choose Keen.
#41
Oh goodness, I used to have that issue of EGM.  Was that the one where Tetris was named #1 best game of all time?

It was also the article that introduced me to Gate of Thunder and Military Madness.  At the time I was mad that Romance of the Three Kingdoms didn't even rank, but I've since learned the error of my ways.

and Arkhan, I'm normally not a big fan of western developers either, but I think the point is that having more third party developers on both sides of the ocean would've given the Turbo a big boost.  And, well, anyone who has played Risk can't argue with that :P  Isn't Beyond Shadowgate considered one of the TG16's killer apps?  And Loom is considered a very good game on the TG16... and that's a port of a computer game.  Imagine if the Turbo had ports of Sierra's Space Quest series!  In fact, someone please rewrite history and make that happen, because the idea is just too awesome to let die.

Quote from: guest on 11/22/2011, 06:30 PMWe should appreciate what we got and support those in our community who are developing new games and translating old. Regardless of how things went down, it is indeed our system, and for better or worse this system appealed to us and was, intentionally or not, marketed to us.
Amen.

Oh my goodness!

Okay, address sent.  And to everyone else, don't worry:  I promise that as soon as I'm done or I get another copy, I'll re-raffle this and give ya'll a chance too!
#44
If I may revive this topic real quick, I always wondered something:

Why are there two versions of the Arcade Card?  Is there even really a difference?  Would anything bad happen if I tried to plug the Duo model into a briefcase?

Mostly because I don't have anywhere else to put the lid, and because the pencil is part of a union and demands work.

Personally, I think that Tower of Power guy cheated.  He used Sonic and Knuckles twice.

And am I the only one whose Briefcase unit has a lid, or are you guys just not using it in the picture?  (I hold it open with a spent mechanical pencil so I never have to fully remove it).
#47
I repeat, I am SO jealous of you guys who live in Japan.

I get the feeling I should try to establish contacts with some of you to help further my anime and sixteen-bit gaming habits.

I believe Keith Courage has a spare one.  Might ask him about the details.
#49
I'm jealous of you people who are in Japan.  I really am.  You get a more complete PC-Engine and SFC library.  I mean seriously, I think the only America-exclusive games the Turbo had were Beyond Shadowgate and AD&D:  Order of the Griffon, and while I'm sure they're decent games... those, versus the likes of Ys and Langrisser, its just no contest.  And then there's all those classic anime.  Much as I love Thundercats and He-Man, I would rather have grown up watching Dragon Ball, Mashin Eiyuden Wataru, GoShogun and the non-shitty version of Go Lion.

I was born in the wrong country...

Oh, I'm sorry, did I interrupt some debate about eBay?  My apologies.  Go right ahead.  Forget I'm here.
#50
I don't understand the anti-eBay sentiments.  Yes, sometimes its annoying and you feel gypped when you didn't get an item for a good price (or at all, rather), but well...

Honestly, my biggest issue was I never heard of eSnipe, so I always thought you literally had to be present to bid on things.  This led to so many times where I missed an item I actually wanted to bid on, for no other reason than because I wasn't home.
