@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Quote from: munchiaz on 01/29/2014, 02:20 PMPlaying popful main right now. Beat the first area so far. Haven't had any issues going through the game not knowing Japanese.
Sweet, that's definitely on my list.

Quote from: MrPoppy on 01/28/2014, 11:34 PMPerfect. Like I said I'll probably go for import version of Monster Lair. But I'll insist on the US versions of Dragon's Curse and Dynastic Hero.
Dynastic Hero is hella expensive. eBay has killed the "everyman's" chance of getting that SCD. Your best options are to either emulate it, buy the much less expensive Japanese version, or do what I do and play it on the Wii Virtual Console. You can play the same game on the Genesis also. It's known as Monster World.
That's kind of what I've gathered. On that note, what's the language barrier like on those latter two games? I've actually beaten Dragon's Curse years ago but I can't remember how essential the English translation was. Seems like that's not any easier to find than Dynastic Hero.

Ideally, I would get physical copies of these. I've done the emulation thing in the past but looking for the real deal now.

Right now, working on playing through the Wonderboy and Star Soldier series.

I've gotten to the last level of Wonderboy in Monster Land, wasn't able to get to the final boss yet. The part where you have to answer the quiz question has held me up a few times. I've taken to snapping pictures of the screen each time and by trial and error getting the questions right. I don't know if anyone else has done it but I'll eventually have all the right answers in pictures and can post them when I do.

Also been playing Super Star Soldier and Final Soldier. Beat FS but not SSS yet. I think I like SSS better, more balanced. The 2/5 minute modes are awesome though. I can see myself playing those for a long time. Any other games have those as standard options?

Any kind of language barrier in the Japanese version of Monster Lair? I'm making a run through the Wonder Boy games and that is next - but it looks like the import version is a lot easier and cheaper to obtain than the American.

What I've been playing, courtesy of Santa...

Dungeon Explorer: cool little action/RPG. Completed it with a fighter. Will definitely re-visit from time-to-time with other character classes.

Final Lap Twin: it's a pretty simple and repetitive game but the quest mode is a neat experience.

Image Fight: cool shooter, uber hard though. Only have gotten to level three, and that's using auto shot.

Quote from: neopolss on 09/18/2013, 10:52 PMI plowed through lords of thunder last night.  Best run ever!  Earth armor is beyond destructive.
Gave it a shot with the Earth Armor and I finally beat this game as well! Usually I was switching armors based on the level, e.g. used water in the fire stage. I don't know if that is supposed to give you an advantage at all but that's always how I did it. Got to the last boss a few times but always came up short. Completely owned everyone just using Earth. Maybe I'll try and tackle some of the harder difficulties next.

Quote from: MrPoppy on 09/09/2013, 02:19 PMFinishing up Ys IV, right at the last boss now. Looks like I've missed an item somehow, anyone know the whereabouts of the second to last item on the top row of the item screen, to the left of the elixir? I've done some searching around the net and on here but can't find anything. Not a big deal but I was going for a complete item screen.

Awesome game, by the way. I'd say it's my favorite of the Turbo Ys games.
Finished Ys IV! The last boss wasn't too tough. From the developer's room, it looks like the item I missed was the Crystal Bottle. More on that as I find out...

Hmm, what to play next...

Quote from: MrPoppy on 08/16/2013, 06:40 PMJust picked up Galaga '90 and Ys IV. Galaga has long been a favorite of mine and I'm pumped to play it again. Never played Ys IV, am even more pumped to get that translation patch and try it out!
Where can you get the translation patch?
Here's a thread discussing it: https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=13136.0

Ys IV is dope! Very cool to be able to play this in English

Finally beat Parasol Stars with the good ending last night. I lucked into a rainbow bracelet in an early level to get the 99 continues, definitely wouldn't have done it without that. The last two worlds are HARD. Very cool game, makes me want to hunt down Rainbow Islands now.

Just got Alien Crush, going to be playing this for quite a while. It's always been one of my favorite Turbo games but this is the first time I've ever actually owned it. Anyone ever get the max score?
#15
Recently got back into the Turbo scene. Just finished Ys III, now I've been cycling between Street Fighter 2 and Parasol Stars with a little bit of Aero Blasters mixed in. I've got Alien Crush coming in soon. Real excited.

No pictures from me yet but I just had both composite and component hooked up at the same time and switched between inputs, the difference really is staggering. Really washed out and blurry image on composite, everything is very bright and crisp on the component. If you're playing your system on an HDTV there's really no other option IMO.

Hey y'all, just want to say that it's my Duo in those pictures. :P turbokon installed the component mod on my system and it's working great. Looks really good on my HDTV.    His work is highly recommended. I want to post some pictures sometime how it looks on my TV compared to the AV hook-up when I get some time.

Oh, and here's a picture that he sent me of the back of my unit with the component jacks and region switch.

Maybe I can do some AV and component comparison pics sometime later.

Hey everyone, new member here! I am the mystery customer that got turbokon's first component mod. Just got by Duo back from him and in short, everything is working great!

Just a little background, I first got my Turbo Duo about 10 years ago. I think it was a new unit, still in the box coming complete with all the pack-in games and everything. When I was home over Christmas I busted it out again and wanted to get back into the scene. I was home again recently and that's when I first noticed some sound issues. I was playing Buster Bros and noticed that while the music was in tact, the sound effects weren't present. Thought that was kind of weird but didn't think a lot of it. By the time I got back here the sound was completely crapping out and that's when I searched out this place for help.

turbokon changed my caps and I also had him do a region mod. He then talked me into doing the component mod as well. I'm glad to say everything is looking fantastic and I would definitely recommend his services if you need your Duo fixed up or souped up.
