10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Quote from: NightWolve on 02/17/2016, 02:28 PMOh, might as well mention it running into this thread. I got interested in the X-Files again, and am caught up with the Monday episode thanks to FOX's website. I only have a one word review: weird. That's all I'm good for, sorry. ;)
ya after the first episode... which is the only one i watched... i was like.... whaaaat? I don't understand... the first episode was ok... I'm guessing for me i need to watch a couple more episodes to give a proper opinion on it

wow i heard that SFV for the pc is really bad... not enough compatibility for controllers and such... everyone is complaining on steam.

I'm currently watching The Blacklist... but as of the recent episodes... this season is turning into ass... the actor playing agent keen ... can't act well enough to match up to James Spader'c character... I tried to watch the new X-Files mini-series... but the first episode was... meh...

I recently bought Record of Lodoss War... no idea how to play it... but the battle system is interesting... i'm making note of options of the game for better understanding.

Just wanted to bump this post and let anyone know that Keith's work is great. The system I have has been played a lot these couple of months. I haven't been on the forum lately but the system is going on strong!! Thanks Keith!!! My avatar represents my emotions every time I switch on the system!! Tears of manly joy!

What stwength! But don't fowget dew aw many guys like yoo all ova da wald!
try again kidahahaha

seriously the music sounds great... i have no idea what went wrong with everything else. technology of the time i guess.
No, SF should have had had a feasible control scheme (for special moves) and responsive controls. If I had been the project manager, it would not have shipped as-is. Even if I had to reconfigure the mechanics (and drop the "strength" variable) to simplify things...the game should have been better.

This is one of those times that improving upon the arcade version would have been great.

I played the arcade version at a local pizzeria and never thought the controls/mechanics were intuitive or responsive.
thats true your right.. i did play the arcade version a couple times before when it was still around in arcades that are nonexistent now... it was really hard to pull of the moves... my brother said he would play cross handed so he'd use the stick with his right hand and buttons with the left... said that made it easier for him... but thats not a viable solution

I am currently playing sidearms and fighting street..

sidearms is quite addictive... i had it for PSP on the capcom collections remixed but never really played it until I got my system (thanks to keith! great stuff)

fighting street on the other hand.... oh dear... I can understand that I would want this game as a collectors item... but playing it is oh so dreadful. Ive just been practicing with ryu/ken in 2 player mode and i can't pull off special moves... makes me want to get a 6 button pad... sigh

I'll try out ninja gaiden when I get the chance! plus i got to look for my vigilante copy... its somewhere in the house... that and Street fighter 2 CE... in which i definitely need a 6button pad

good times!

Just wanted to say that I picked up my modded PC Engine Duo from the post office over the weekend. I had tested a bunch of old games I had lying around the house that my brother had and everything works great!! Thanks Keith for the great work on the system! Fighting Street works great and I suck ass at this game! Ninja Gaiden and Sidearms are keeping me occupied!! Now all I need is another controller and a Duo Tap!

My girlfriend and I just watched Mr. Holmes. Its a drama about an aging Sherlock Holmes who is trying to solve a case that he believes is unsolved from his early years. Though he can't remember all the details because of his fading memory. Pretty good movie. No action... its just a drama movie with Ian McKellen playing the old Sherlock. Good story, good characters and actors. I could see Ian McKellen playing a younger Sherlock Holmes if they had done any in the early 90s.

Quote from: guest on 08/10/2015, 11:41 AMMy favorite fast food joints are Taco Bell and Runza (small regional chain), but I also enjoy McDs for their yogurt, Wendys for their chili, and Arbys for their Arby-Q.
Arby's restaurants are getting scarce here in Toronto... i'd have to drive out 30km just to find one... their sandwiches are delightful

Quote from: DragonmasterDan on 07/21/2015, 12:07 PMI've not seen MD GEIST, I take it that I should?
if you don't mind the 80's hairstyles and music... story wise its ok... action is ok... to me its more of a memory of my childhood... the violence was up there in the ova.. at that time that is .. its more of an anime that you would watch while your eating lunch... to keep you occupied

if anything maybe watch patlabor... dominion tank polce.. dirty pair... black magic-66.. madox-01 and appleseed... those i think better represent that era of anime.. and I'm pretty sure there are plenty more to add to that

Quote from: esteban on 07/21/2015, 09:17 AMAnyway, Grave of the Fireflies remains just as powerful now as when I first saw it over 20 years ago. Very few films have that effect. :)

Anyway, let's talk about MD GEIST.
MD Geist was pretty cool back then. Was the directors cut any different than the original?

Thank you everybody for the warm welcomes! I've been lurking the forum as I should be! Realizing once again... I started too late... hopefully within the next couple weeks I will have purchased a Duo from a long time veteran of this forum... and on a side note I called up a local retro game shop and they have a turbo express for 200.... lets hope its still there by the weekend... pay day a coming.

Thank you again!

I like to watch highlight videos from contact sports... mainly mma/kickboxing/boxing
.. HBO boxing has some cool video about certain fighters... The Greatest Hits series... pretty cool rundown of each fighters time in America on the professional level.

Also boxing analysis videos... some youtubers do a good job creating such videos... such as LeeWylie1... check it out if you like boxing analysis... somewhat informative..

Afternoon ladies and gentlemen,

New to the forum so I've been reading through the threads and getting proper info about how things work here. I was pointed in this direction after doing research on where to purchase NEC consoles. My brother has a Turbografx-16 with a CD attachment but lacks the AC adapter for it. So I was doing research on where to purchase accessories and read that this is the forum to look for anything pc engine.

My brothers Turbografx-16 was first bought in the 90s. I played it as a kid but unfortunately I was only limited to playing fighting street, legendary axe, ninja spirit, keith's courage and bonk's adventure. Back then he stopped buying games so thats all we had. Now I'm older.. but unfortunately I'm starting too late to purchase/collect Turbografx systems/games. I have a small sega genesis collection, though I kinda felt I should have started buying into the Turbografx 10 years ago, maybe even when i started working. ..sigh...

Anyways thanks for reading. Hope to get to know you all and relive my childhood memories with more Turbografx in my life. Thank you!

Quote from: NightWolve on 07/09/2015, 08:44 AMMy Studio Ghibli marathon is pretty close to being finished. Recent one I saw was Whisper of the Heart. I found it OK, and as usual, Disney takes pride in their dubbing work and mostly does a great job with it.
I normally watch studio ghibli movies monthly.. but over the years i only watched grave of the fireflies twice... the second time just a couple days ago... its soo sad.. plus i think setsuko's mannerisms are so close to being child like.. its sad..

great list! I haven't really played much of the turbografx but I would have never believed there were that many shooters for the system!

thanks for the info!
