@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

3 maximum votes- and this will be a two parter- the next poll will be for the best boss of the winning game...  Poll's open for 30 days.

There will also be a WHICH PCE SIDE SHOOTER HAS THE BEST BOSS FIGHTS? poll with another one for the best boss from the winning game- and then the best vert boss will go head to head with the best horizontal boss.

NOTE: No look-at-me know-it-alls declaring "There are no boss fights in Space Invaders" or the like.  Make your own poll.

For the record- this badass is my favorite boss.

Dark Fact

God, I don't even know where to begin with this poll.  There are plenty of vertical scrolling shmups that deserve praise. ](*,)

Sorry, but I don't see your library card on the books of Ys.  Now, RETURN THEM TO ME!!!

awack

Spriggan, that game has some pretty cool boss fights, from giant robots who's head and hands are poking through the clouds in the first level to large cannons that blast away every thing in front of it.

CrackTiger

Shouldn't Forgotten Worlds be on this list as well? If I had thought of this sooner, I wouldn't have voted for it in the horizontal shooter thread if I had to exclude the vertical bosses. :P
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Dark Fact

Wait, we're talking only about PCE vertical Shmups right? Not anything else from the arcades?

Hmmm... What is the default gun position when you reach the vertical bosses?  I realize you have to aim up to hit them- but is the gun automatically faced forward (sideways), or up, or does it stay fixed on the gun's last position?

I wouldn't consider FW a vertical shooter at all despite a few "vertical" bosses. Virtually the entire game is played out in horizontal format.

Arkhan Asylum

Everyone that picked 1943 is a retard

This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" No shit. That game is the epitome of mediocre. It's hard to even consider some of those battles "boss" fights.

Nazi NecroPhile

Sapphire
Soldier Blade
Steam Heart's

I had to vote for Steam Hearts, 'cause the bosses are whores and who doesn't like a good whore?
Ultimate Forum Bully/Thief/Saboteur/Clone Warrior! BURN IN HELL NECROPHUCK!!!

geise

I voted Override, Spriggan, and Steam Hearts.  Even though Steam Hearts is an Ecchi/Hentai shooter it has some nice boss encounters for being an average shooter.  Spriggan is just beyond amazing!  Override has a very nice final boss encounter.  There's so many others on this list that are sooooo close though.  Tough decision indeed.

I love the water.  It looks like gravel.

I hate the game itself but that's logic I can get behind.  Three cheers for diseased cat woman whores.

I voted for Image Fight I and Image Fight II, as well as Super Star Soldier. Image fight has some great bosses, particularly in stages 3, 4, and 5. I haven't gotten all the way through Image Fight II yet, but I loved the boss that has those mirrors that bounce the laser beams all around. Brutal until you find a safe spot.

Super Star Soldier is somewhat maligned but I had a great time with some of the bosses... I especially liked the big robot, that shoots his arms and a spray of homing missiles, the easy but cool snake boss of Stage 5, the boss that shoots 2 missiles and a bunch of bubbles, which for me was the toughest boss, and the Final Boss with his sweet special music. The easy scorpion boss also had special music, which i thought was cool. In most games bosses don't get unique music.

Turbo D

turbo D gives votes out 2 Super Star Soldier and Ginga Fucky Damsexy Sapphire. SSS for all around awesome bosses with emphasis on the mega coolio Battle Scorpion! Sapphire because... well damn, the bosses on that game are bad-ass!
