Okay, if some of you remember one of my previous posts that asked "what are the best PC Engine CD-ROM2 games?" here's the new one. I am getting my Super System Card 3.0 sometime next week. Paid only $59 and it's mint! So, what should I be importing now that I have full access to this incredible library of games(except the Arcade card games, of course). Yes, there are obvious choices like Dracula X and Nexzr. And you can leave out super complicated japanese RPGs. But, action/RPGs would be cool. I have been shopping Genki Video Games and they have a good review system,  but I want to know what my friends here think. Thanks!

So, what's the deal with Dragon Slayer? And is there any differences between Winds Of Thunder and the U.S. releases? I am definently getting Dungeon Explorer II. The first one is one of my favorite Hu Card games.

Nazi NecroPhile

Paul's list is a dang good starting point, though I'd amend it to include Godzilla, Dracula X, and the Ys series.

Dracula X is a given. And I am working on aquiring the Y's series(U.S. versions). But how about great imports that don't get discussed much. I know there are some great action RPGs and shooters out there.

Sinistron

Out of my collection- my ten favorite Super CDs are:

Dracula X (obvious)
Dungeon Explorer II (should be obvious)
Gate of Thunder (obvious)
Gradius II (great)
Lords of Thunder (obvious)
Pop'n Magic (two player ssp like Parasol Stars)
Psychic Storm (fun two player shooter- great music)
Puyo Puyo (the best falling brick for pce)
Star Parodier (a must have)
Valis I (plays somewhat similar to Drac X)

I have Nexzr and another anticipated super CD on the way- haven't played em yet so they didn't make my list.

Here's what I have so far. Exile, Cosmic Fantasy 2, Buster Bros., Legendary Axe, Dungeon Explorer, Neutopia, Bonk's Adventure, Final Lap Twin, Keith Courage, Aero Blasters, Blazing Lazers, and Spriggan. Spriggan is my only import so far. If it wasn't for you guys I wouldn't even know about Spriggan. I am going to get Y's Books I & II and Lords Of Thunder next week.

Mathius

As for Gate of Thunder is there any differences that stand out in the import version? This question is directed at Sunteam_Paul for it seems he REALLY loves Gate of Thunder

No, no fighters. What's the deal with Dragon Slayer and Faussette Armour? I asked about Dragon Slayer earlier but nobody answered
I would also like to know if there are any japanese imports that are actually better than their U.S. counterparts.

Mathius

I just, as in five minutes ago, picked up Fantasy Zone CIB on eBay for fifteen smackers :D Someone on this post recommended it but I already had my sights set on it. It's a Hu Card anyway so it doesn't really count considering my topic. Just wanted you all to know.

Regarding differences between the US and Japanese Gate of Thunder, I couldn't really say as I only have the Japanese version. As far as I'm aware the main difference between the US and Jap Winds/Lords of Thunder is the lack of voice over on the opening intro on the US version, and in the shop I think? (I could be mistaken but the Japanese version feels a touch easier to me).

Dragon Slayer, if you're talking import then don't bother, but the US version, despite the worst voice acting since Ys 3, is a great RPG with some lovely music and some amusing dialogue.

Fausette Amour I find less appealing than it first looked, but I've yet to give it a really good play through.

I stated earlier that I can't read Japanese but that doesn't mean I won't import and enjoy a good action/rpg(again, as I stated earlier). Obviously, action/rpgs require less knowledge of the storyline and can usually be somewhat understood by the action taking place onscreen and still be enjoyed. Titles like Snatcher and Legend of Xanadu are going to be too text and voice acting heavy for me to be able to progress through the game. I'd really like to play Snatcher but I think the Sega CD version will be my only option.

nectarsis

The Legend of Xanadu's, and Anearth are fairly playable (and some of the best on PCE IMO) with no japanese.  Plus there are some good walkthroughs of a # of the "top tier" japanese rpg's, etc.

Nexzr is pretty expensive compared to so many other great PCE games. Unless it has come down in price, Fausette Amour isnèt worth it either, but it is a decent game. Dragon Slayer is a good traditional RPG, but the U.S. version has gotten pretty pricey.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Arkhan Asylum

They translated Snatcher for MSX! with SCC music.  :)

And, playing an RPG w/o being able to read it sort of blows.  You dont know why you are doing what you are doing...

Following a walkthru just to see the game unfold (storyless...) doesn't seem like a good investment of time.

In some cases that's true, but I thoroughly enjoyed Xanadu II without understanding a word of it (aside from the odd bit here and there).

Thank you so much. All of you for your suggestions. My Super System Card 3.0 came today  The first thing I did was went down to my retro geek shop and picked up that sealed copy of Lords of Thunder. I almost didn't want to open it but who could resist? I have never played this before and I can't really express in words just how awestruck I was. Basically, this game rocks, quite literally. Thank you again my friends.

It's got plenty of variety as well as some tasty graphics in places. It's not got the most finely honed gameplay of all time, but presentation, along with a decent soundtrack make it well worth playing and I often go back to it. It has a neat little omake section when you complete it too, with fan art of the characters.

The first Schbibin Man gets a bad rep, but it's not a bad game, I certainly prefer it to the second, which leaves me feeling hollow and empty inside.
