2/13/2025: Localization News - Cosmic Fantasy 3-4!

Rather earth-shattering news in the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 community: Cosmic Fantasy 3 & 4 has been officially localized to English by Edia 30 years later for the Switch! Hard to believe! I know their script quality is poor given the 1&2 port but still good to see.

How do you figure they are stretched to fit? If thats the case then displaying on a CRT or any tv or diplay would be considered stretching the image.

Neways what I was refering to is that I dont have to physically do into my options and change it to stretch it to fullscreen. It automatically fills the screen at 16:9!

Ah, so your TV automatically stretches the image. If you want to play the game in its original resolution you should change the settings to 4:3 aspect ratio, so you'll have the two black bars on the sides of the screen.

I meant 'stretched to fit the incorrect aspect ratio'.  The games were intended to be shown on a 4:3 screen, so forcing 'em to fill a 16:9 screen will distort the hell out of everything.  Haven't you noticed that everything looks kinda fat and that circles are now ovals?  If that doesn't bother you, then game on; it's not my TV.

Yeah, you'll find that most of us old-schoolers will hate seeing 4:3 image stretched out to 16:9.  It just looks... wrong...

But like NecroPhile says, it's your deal.

override

No it really doesn't bother me that bad....Since this is the only TV I have and the only room for a TV I have then this is what Im stuck with. To be honest with you I dont remember what the system looked like on a nice size CRT. The last time I played a Turbo Duo, up until this year, was when I was about 12 -13. I had my TG-CD sitting in storage for a long time. When I pulled it out the CD portion didnt work. I got it all fixed up and added a region mod and sold it on here.

To me things look alright and I can play then on the bigscreen but you also have to figure that the big screen is what I have been used to now for over a year.

As ceti noted, you don't have to play in 16:9 and can set it to 4:3 instead.  In fact, your Sammy should be able to set each input independently; meaning just the Turbo's input would be at 4:3 and all other video sources would remain at 16:9, so you won't have to change modes manually each time you switch inputs.

Exactly. All my inputs are 16:9 except for my Duo input, which is 4:3. Though I think my emulators on the Xbox go directly to 4:3 as well.  :-k

True True! Yes I know of my TV's capabilities...hell the damn thing can even connect to the internet via CAT line.

Although this is the case I honestly dont like the way my TV displays 4:3 in the older games. I think Im just gonna stick to 16:9.

One day after I move and I have the space I plan on setting up a game room! Then maybe Ill get the arcade I want and have a nice size CRT to play my older games on....Projector screen is another thing I might get!

My first pic since my Duo-R needs a solder joint reflow in the controller port and putting off on buying security bit screwdrivers. I got a "Whitey" to hold me over. I don't mind the lack of instant access to CD games.

And in the utility room where the clothes are done (TMI?), here I got the PCE running on good ol Channel 95 RF on my old Symphonic, which I had since Christmas 1995. Surprisingly For RF it still looks good, despite that I can't see my score cause of the picture proportioning.

Tried a homemade tablecloth that was scrolled into two pieces of wood, wouldn't stay up. Other than that, no screen. I'll have to go get 4 pieces of posterboard and tape them together

Oh man, if I was using a projector that wallpaper background would not fly.

The projector setup is sweet, but yeah, the wallpaper would be a major distraction. The bed sheet idea is definitely the way to go.

A sound-fixed PC Engine Duo I purchased broken. 2 Avenue 6 and 2 CGII controllers. Electronics store power supply and custom-built AV cable. Phillips Magnavox 26" CRT with really bad screen-fade that I dumpster dove on college move-out day. It's missing 2 buttons, channel down and mute. Protected by an APC UPS 550 surge protector with battery backup.

One man's junk is another man's treasure!

My $2.00 screen (4 pieces of poster board for .45 cents a pop). This time the Famicom A/V system is the guinea pig.

I can't get a better picture than that ^^

You know, playing via projector is sounding less and less silly every year. I don't think I'd be able to play every action/platforming game on a super-big screen, but other genres (rpgs, racing) lend themselves to a big screen, perhaps.

Quote from: Tatsujin on 07/16/2009, 08:55 AMsure! RGB on low-res CRT FTW!!
Hahahhahahahaa.

Anyway, I am picking up my brother's old Sony Trinitron (27") in the next day or two. It isn't a flatscreen, but it is very nice and hardly used. I wanted to take his 27" WEGA, but he's keeping that bad boy (it is sweet, let me tell you).

I've been using a region modded Duo (which I bought from D-Lite before that whole fiasco) for the past two years, and I have it connected to a Commodore 1702 monitor. Love those monitors.

Those 1702s are neat.  It sucks when they start to go alittle and the picture gets a bit fuzzy though :(

have a Duo-RX RGB out via XRGB-3 to a Pioneer Viera. Looks very nice indeed.

This is actually my foray back into the wonderful world of Duo - after my last duo died, i needed some cash sharpish, so i sold up almost everything. Now that that need has passed, i am going back and picking up a load of stuff :)

The Core Graphx is attaced to the CRT in the spare room. :]

I'm on the look out for a decent CRT Monitor or Small TV, want that CRT goodness again  8)
