I was watching the live stream last night of the protesters outside the doors of this meeting.   It was like the Villagers with torches and pitchforks storming the castle!  This was a violation of human fucking rights.  The first domino of many to fall the pretty much fucks over all state employees.  Teachers, Police, Mail Delivery people, we're all fucked!

Perhaps I was RANT TYPING a little there, but in my opinion it takes away freedom to peaceably assemble and freedom of speech.
Which, if not exactly human rights, are constitutionally enumerated.

Not so much 'human' rights as it is is American rights.

That's true, but I was in Madison this past weekend with around 500 Mail Delivery People, listening to speakers and sharing stories. :S  In the end this will effect all of us.  Once this ball starts rolling it won't be quite the 'far cry' from basic rights.

Of course it will affect many people, but overstating/incorrectly stating (free speech/right to assemble, etc.) just sounds foolish, and doesn't help the cause.

Get back to me when the National Guard clears the streets and martial law is called (heard that claimed more than a few times by people/groups at the Capitol).  The protesters have/are assembling, and obviously using their free speech.  A  meeting =/= everyone/everywhere.

Anyway...regardless of individual opinions on the whole issue of unions and bargaining, the way the democratic process is conducted in this video is terrifying and of concern to all.

Another thing that should concern everyone - what was up with Walker refusing to compromise on any part of the bill?  When does anyone ever have a whole bunch of ideas or opinions that they don't change their mind about after some discussion?  Personally, I realize 50% of my ideas are stupid after I sit down and discuss them with someone.  How can a small group write a hasty 200-page bill of ideas and then not find any merit in the public's feedback?

Whether or not the stripping of collective bargaining rights is good bad or otherwise.... the means by which this legislation was enacted is definitely frightening!  My hope is that the people of Wisconsin will react very strongly to this so that other state's legislatures don't do the same thing.
