Yes, I used an ultraviolet led one not a standard purple led. That's why it is so bright. A standard purple led would be a bit more dim and probably make it look more stock though. So it's personal preference on what you use.

Ultra Violet LED's are a hell of a lot easier and cheaper to find then purple though.

Quote from: MasonSushi on 06/16/2011, 08:39 AMi just re-did the LED mod i had done changing it from a round blue LED to a wide angle purple LED. I also removed the black liner inside the clear shell, that way the whole thing fills up purple.

I did the power LED in red by drilling a hole where Keith put his. I installed it the same way but didn't fill the hole with epoxy.
What kind of purple LED did you use? Is it an ultra violet?
Yes it is a wide angle UV LED. when installed. Its a purple color.

its the ones in this auction. I think i bought a 20 pack

was it a straight swap with the red? I tried using some Purples and they wouldn't light up. I'm assuming they need more voltage then the red because when I swapped back  the red worked. The LEDs I bought have the same forward voltage and current ratings as the ones you have listed.

You accidentally installed the led reversed. I have done the same thing many times cause the UV led for some reason has the Positive and Negative ends swapped the other way around from what the original red bulb itself looks like.

Lol I wonder if that was all it was. I was going by the shape of the diode in the LED and the pcb isn't labelled. Hmmm Ill have to give it a try tonight. In the meantime I've been popping purple LEDs in everywhere since I had extras, I lit up the cart slot of an old snes even  which looks pretty cool actually. I am thinking about putting pink LEDs in the cd tray area of my white Saturn to match the pink button too.

I reversed my LED and it worked! Anybody else trying to do this: I was going by the original red LED's diode shape to figure out the polarity. I put a purple one backwards from the way the original one was and now I have a totally radical purple lighting up Duo R
ROCK ON!!!!
Thanks for the tip Keith!
