Yeah, but the compilations use the arcade version, which IMO is actually worse than the PCE version.

Why's that?  I thought the Turbob version was a fairly faithful port.

There were a few neat yet unsung platform games that could have had really nice PCE sequels or prequels:

Metal Storm
Power Blade series
G.I. Joe series
Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star)

It's a crying shame the PCE didn't get an rpg sequel to the Keith Courage Famicom RPG

music is better.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

China Warrior is a Kung Fu themed version of Gladiator.

It feels to me like the PCE version is faster, more colorful and controls smoother.  And yes, the music somehow has an oomph on the PCE's soundchip that it seems to lack on the actual arcade hardware.

Keith Courage Famicom RPG...?

I'm actually surprised Hokuto no Ken didn't appear on the PCE, since Nintendo by no means owned that series (indeed, Sega for awhile had the license... oh, wait).

G.I. Joe was probably far too dead by the time the Turbo came out, or else they really, really didn't like the DIC seasons.  Woulda been cool to hear a chiptune rendition of "Got to get tough!  Yo Joe!"  though.

Doctor Octoroc did a chiptune version of the G.I. Joe theme song on his album, "After These Messages."  You can get it here: http://www.doctoroctoroc.com/after-these-messages/ (The download is through a Paypal link, but you pay what you want).

You can check out a sample of the tracks on youtube here:
The G.I. Joe track starts around 1:50.

It's an awesome compilation. :)

yep, there is a keith courage rpg for famicom... It plays similar to zelda 2 or war of the dead on pce.

The nes got 2 Gi joe games in the turbo era, and there was an arcade game released by konami as well.

FraGMarE

Not really an NES sequel, per se, but a proper conversion of the original TMNT arcade game by Konami would have been a perfect fit on the PCE, imo.  The graphics are colorful, the PCE's mid-res mode would handle the arcade resolution well, there's not a fuck-ton of parallax that would need faked, and the Turbotap would have been perfect for 4-player co-op.  Here's some pics of what it might of have looked like, in 9-bit glory...

Oh God, that's putting me in the mood for some Turtle Power.

Someone do that game as a fan project. PLEASE!

Since I'm an eighties cartoon lover, ya know what else I'd love to have seen?  A proper He-Man or Thundercats game.  I mean we're talking two cartoons that defined animation for a generation of kids and they never even appeared on the NES, let alone the Turbo (they did appear on the Commodore 64 but to my recollection, those games weren't so hot).  Yeah, a He-Man beatemup, in the style of Turtles there, would've been awesome.  And if you entered the Konami Code you could play as She-Ra.

Okay, enough pipe-dreaming... for the next ten seconds.

spenoza

Hells yes. TMNT would have been a great title to see on SCD.

Hell, it would've been fine on a 6 or 8Mbit HuCard for that matter.  There's really not much too the game.  The music sounds like it would translate fairly well to PSG too... at least to my untrained ear.  You could use the PSG's DDA sound output for the various sampled voices ("Cowabunga", "Pizza Time!", etc.)

spenoza

You speak truth. It would have made a fine chip game as well.
