I visited family in PA and yeah there was some great selections at the beer distributor. I had some local beer, I forgot the name but it came in a huge variety pack of like 15 beers.
Then I visited other family in California and you can get beer and liquor off the shelf at the grocery store. But they don't have horse and buggie crossings so I guess it all evens out.

Jesse813

There aren't any Horse & Buggie crossings where I am in PA, they got plenty though out where the Amish are.

PunkCryborg

the Mennonites are like that too, they look like Amish gangsters

Jesse813

ah yes we have plenty of them too

blueraven

I "miss" the drive-thru liquor stores in Wyoming.

You could have open intoxicants as long as you weren't the driver and were outside the city limits in the WY county I lived in back in 1999.

Don't drink and drive, kids.

JoshTurboTrollX

snagged me some Leinenkugels Big Eddy and some Guinness Foreign Extra Bottles today at a new(ish) liquor shop.  Asked about my precious Beamish and he said he'll see what he can do...

The Guinness isn't bad, its got some hop to it, where the original Guinness stout doesn't.  The Big Eddy is pretty tasty, has some interesting aftertaste and nice bite.

Still on the search for Beamish ;)

Fuck you Heineken!!  I'm a bit shocked I was still able to find some local as of a month ago!  O_O

those damn bastards. Beamish is a damn good beer

blueraven

uhhh.

Beamish? I had that once.

Ok. Not bad.

I'd rather have a Belgian dubbel, though.

PunkCryborg

I'm going to the beer supply store today for ingredients to make my first batch of homebrew. Suck on that "bad economy"!

roflmao

Awesome.  I'd recommend avoiding experimenting too much early on because it really sucks to have a batch go bad because of one little thing. I tried to make a Pete's Strawberry Blonde knock-off early on and ended up with a bunch of bottles of explosive foam. :)

I've got stuff to make an IPA and a Stout using one of those Cooper's beer kits (http://www.makebeer.net/About-the-DIY-Beer-Kit) but since we've had our son, my "brewery" has been converted into his bathroom. :(

PunkCryborg

I'm going to just make a simple nut brown ale for starters. I know how you feel though, I'm slowly loosing space in my house for my hobbies with a 7 month old son. But I have somewhere special in my house to brew the beer.......

What looks like a normal floor
/img5786l.jpg

Opens into a super creepy 5X5 room.
/img5787c.jpg

My house is from the late 1920s and is in a part of Tampa that was notorious for mafia, smuggling during prohibition and the cigar trade. I like to think of this as my prohibition booze cellar.

roflmao

That. is. awesome.

Bass beer, Laserdiscs, ice cream and Devil's Crush kind of night!

VestCunt

Anyone into Bell's Oberon?  I never liked other wheat beers, but damn, Oberon is great.  It's also over 7% alcohol.
I also enjoyed Bass and Newcastle back in my drinking days.  I quit six years ago and now pretty much just drink tea.  Once in a while it cracks me up to order an O'Douls and stand around looking like a loser.

Oberon is great! Many places in the Midwest used to serve it for less than $4 a pint.

Reminds me of summer nights on lake Michigan.

I've been getting more in to Belgian ales lately, and this is a great one - especially since it isn't even Belgian!

Quote from: geise on 04/14/2011, 12:57 PMStella Artois - I hear in europe it's wife beater beer.  I still like it.
When I was in Finland last month, I was hanging around with a Belgian guy, and he did indeed say that Stella is like their Bud Light.  I agree though, I think it's pretty good.  Definitely better than anything made by Bud/Miller/Coors.

Quote from: guest on 05/06/2011, 12:35 AMI've really been digging Ranger IPA recently.
I love this one, too.  New Belgium Brewery makes some great beers/ales.  I got to visit their brewery when I was in Colorado.  Definitely cool.

Quote from: Opethian on 05/06/2011, 10:53 PMI got some Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA and its damn hoppy :D
That's their hoppiest beer.  Their brewery is like an hour from my house.  I've you're ever in Northern California, you should go check it out.  They make an awesome stout.

Other favorites include Guiness, Chimay Grand Reserve, and Anchor Steam.

A few hours from me as well, visited there once on a Brewery bus tour.

I drank waaay too much of that beer last summer, lol. Seemed to be at every event I went to.

roflmao

I have to resurrect this thread to mention Ranger IPA.  It's really good.   :D

A_Locomotive

Drinking a bottle of Stone's 11/11/11 Vertical Epic. Bought a couple of bottles of this one time release when it came out. One has been locked away with my bottle of 10/10/10 to await opening on 12/12/12. :) Great stuff, really good flavor like all of Stone's beers.

Opethian

Ranger IPA is pretty rad.
I got some Hopsecutioner recently I opened before the holidays :D

Just having some Carlton Draught myself right now :)  IMO, it's pretty typical stuff, but I'll say that they have the most awesome beer ad I've seen to date.  (And I haven't it before I got to Aus, so most of you probably haven't seen it either)...

PCEngineHell

Beer is fucking cat piss. Have at it fellas.

termis

I know it's a gimmick, but I had to buy a couple cans today :) It actually tasted a slightly more like a bitter, but either way, nothing to write home about at all other than the name.

in Perth, Western Australia.

I haven't seen it at major liquor stores (only places where you can buy booze) -- it was in an independent liquor store.

I'm surprised it hasn't been sued off its ass, considering they went all out with the Simpsons font, coloring and all that.  According to the can, it's brewed somewhere in Germany.

Ah, found the website: http://www.duff-bier.de/

Hahahahaha!  I'd definitely have to try that if I saw it at the store.

... by chance did they also have FUDD?  :D

We brewed it in an Archaeology class last semester; Honey mead, Maple Mead, and Ginger Mead. The Powerpoint presentation was pretty amazing, going into the key ingredients, and where the "brewing" of it took place originally. At the potluck party at the end of the semester they brought jugs of it in for everyone, a bunch of people gave me theirs, and I got loaded.

WIN.

That sounds like fun.

I drank up all of the mudslide at a small get together at a neighbors house once. I couldn't help it. It was so tasty that I just couldn't get enough.
