10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Picked up a bundle on Ebay recently. Wasn't cheap by any means, but I'm a sucker for complete games. Thought I'd share some images with you all.

im almost afraid to ask how much... but you have some great pick ups, 'specially Jackie, Soldier, OotG and Shockman..
It is what it is and it will be what it will be!

Looking for some games, but I will prolly never find.  Sapphire, Magical Chase (US)

Sega does what Nintendon't, but only NEC does better than both together!^^
<Senshi> Tat's i'm going to contact the people of Hard Off and open a store stateside..

SMF

Looks like the 1 that was up to $600 before being pulled off eBay. Congrats on the pick up. Some pretty good games.
Welcome to Prime Time B!tch

PunkCryborg

that stuff looks minty fresh!

Senshi

Which one are you going to play first?
PSN: Dynastic_Hero
Steam: Dynastic_Hero

KingofGames

SMF, is correct. The bundle was $625 shipped. Before receiving the items, I felt like I got a pretty nice deal. Now that they are in my hand, I couldn't be happier. I truly feel like $625 for the bundle was a complete steal. The console itself is in immaculate shape and even includes the Keith Courage comic book.

I've never liked racing games, but for some reason, Chase HQ seems like a sick game. I'll leave Soldier Blade for last, though. I'm gonna try to beat as many of the bundle as I can this weekend. Shooting for Shockman, Air Zonk, and Soldier Blade, but we'll see.

Arkhan Asylum

That price is actually pretty legit for what you got in that kind of condition.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

Shrapnoid

It's all so beautiful. I'm so jealous. I don't think I would have payed that much even if I could afford it but, it's all very nice looking none the less.

KingofGames

I've checked out all of the boxed titles, except for OotG. Some of these have aged remarkably well, while others have not. Soldier Blade is stellar, definitely glad to have it in the collection. Air Zonk is also excellent, though the bitter mode is obscene. I spent about 20 minutes on the first level. Finally got to the boss before I called it quits for the day. I'm uncertain if I'll hold onto the rest, but those two will definitely be sticking around. My least favorite is Samurai Ghost. I was surprised too, as I figured it would play like Ninja Spirit. Far too clunky and slow to be a ninja game. Jackie Chan is surprisingly solid, though I'm not a big fan of the art style. Shockman looks and sounds great, but I don't care for the controls. Not as tight as I seem to remember.

bartre

heh, well let me know if you decide to sell OotG, Dead moon or Cyber core
i probably wouldn't have paid as much as you did for everything, but it all looks fantastic, and I'm kind of a penny pincher...

KingofGames

Will do. I'd like to spend some more time with Dead Moon. Definitely reminds me of Gradius, though again, something just seems off.

HercTNT

I think think the whole collections sucks and you should box it up and send it to me your cost   In fact its so terrible, I promise to spend many many hours testing it just to prove how terrible it is.  It may take me awhile though to come to a definitive conclusion. Were possibly talking a 10 year study. Afterwords I will post my findings.

KingofGames

Hahaha, sounds good, my man. I spent a few hours today conducting my own studies! Definitely a subject worth dumping some time into.

allyourblood

Congrats on the spread! I've been completely out of the loop as far as adding to the collection (money is ridiculously tight right now), but I've been living vicariously through everyone's posts on here.
If anyone gets any leads on a "fair priced" copy of Coryoon, please lemme know!

Where is fancy bred?

I'm not trying to change your view of Samurai Ghost (well, I guess I am), but if you accept the fact that your hero is a clunky, unwieldy beast...well, the game grows on you. Sure, there are areas that are frustrating (disappearing platforms, spiders that shoot webs and hobble you, bosses that require you to dodge nimbly, etc.) because you are expected to be more nimble on your feet--but you'll be able to better control your character with a bit of practice. :pcgs:

I say: give Samurai Ghost a (second) chance.

I liked the idea of different slashes for the sword, instead of a canned forward slice. The clunkiness was just ridiculous. In general, I feel like TG-16 games are too large. Not really sure how else to put it, but I feel like there isn't enough space on screen for everything that is going on. Before I sold Cadash, I put some time into it. It's maddening when an enemy that barely appears on screen can sabotage you instantly. I guess some of these games were designed for the arcade (and thus forcing you to dump quarters into them), but that doesn't carry over well. I might eventually reacquire some of these games, but for now, I'm only keeping Air Zonk and Soldier Blade (which are admittedly amazing). Really happy with the bundle, as I made some money back, traded for a really big want, and kept some awesome stuff.

I hear you, my friend. I am obligated to promote Samurai Ghost because most folks agree with you (that the game is a clunker)...and I beg them to give Samurai Ghost a second chance :pcds:

You know what, that's actually a good point. I still think Ninja Spirit stomps all over it. Maybe if I hadn't played that game I would've been more impressed.

Necro bump for an old find. I was just thinking about these, as I picked up a TG-16 bundle recently. Crazy where prices have gone. Soldier blade just sold for $700 CIB..

I have Soldier Blade + manual in a Keith Courage jewel box (CIKCB).

Great jewel case (no silly plastic arm to fret over...just 27 year old sticky adhesive).

I'll sell it to you for $550, which is decent for CIKCB.

As far as Soldier Blasé is concerned...it does nothing for me. It's just another shooter.

I can't enjoy the game unless you have the cardboard box, unfortunately. It adds to the experience.
