@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Isn't there a Bonk game on the Sega Genesis? I thought I played one on there before.

Keith Courage or maybe Bonk's Adventure in an in-store demo in '89 or '90; for my own hardware and playing for more than a few minutes, it'd be Gate of Thunder in '92.

No, but Bonk was whored out to the NES, SNES, and GB.  Maybe one of those was what you're thinking of.

I saw Keith Courage on display at a trade show in 1989, but probably didn't get to play it. During my first real experience with the TG-16 in 1990, Dungeon Explorer was probably the game I played first.

You might be thinking of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Sadler

R-Type somewhere around 1990 in a store display. The first game I played on my own hardware was either Keith Courage or Bonk's Revenge somewhere around a year later.

Nah, Those aren't even similar in the slightest, IMO. I'll have to do some light internet research.

The first game I played was Blazing Lazers then Bonks Adventure. It was around march 1990 or 91.

China warrior was my first game around September 2010. I got 4 games with the system KC, China Warrior, TV Sport Football, and World Sports baseball. I have no Idea why I purchased a turbo. I heard about on youtube and for some reason I had to get one. Best random purchase ever.

T2KFreeker

Store display when they were test marketing the Turbografx in Atlanta Georgia. Played Keith Courage. I was supposed to get one for Christmas that year but I moved to California and they weren't available yet! I had to wait for next Christmas to get the Turbo, but it was worth it in the end!
END OF LINE.

Bernie

hmm, I think it was KC.  It had to be, since that was the pack in.

BigusSchmuck

Keith Courage early 90s at Toys R Us in Portland Oregon. I would say most of us on this forum probably played Keith Courage as their first Turbo game. Of course I remember seeing this commercial too:

roflmao

R-Type, circa 1990.  I had a Sega Master System and R-Type back then and friend of mine brought over his Turbografx-16 w/ R-Type one day and the rest was history.  I sold my Master System as soon as I could to fund a Turbografx-16.  The intro music at the beginning of the first stage still gives me chills, because I remember how completely blown away I was when compared to the Sega Master System version (which I still think is a pretty decent version).

VestCunt

Keith Courage 1992. I played an in-store before that, but I can't remember which game.
I'm a cunt, always was. Topic Adjourned.

Sparky

You lucky pricks, I never got to play a tg16 system until I bought my first one in about 2000-2001.
kieth courage was my first and i was disappointed, but soon after got Dragon Spirit and got hooked... I loved that f@cking game.

turbokon

It was Keith in 90 or 91. My friend got the genesis with altered beast. I thought Keith was better and still do.
Turbo fan since 1991 after owning my first system.

Bonk. It was on display to try at a JVC store before release. Sealed the deal.

MrFlutterPie

Bonk's Adventure at a Radio Shack demo unit in 91-92.

The stupid thing was set to reset automatically after 5 mins of play so I would always try to get as far as I could before the game reset.

My own unit same game circa 2007.

esteban

I played (or watched?) BLAZING LAZERS in 1989 at Toy R Us.

First game on my own TG-16 console...1989...Keith Courage, followed by  Blazing Lazers.

It had to be sometime in 90, since Bonk 1 was out, but I got my TG in February of 91'.  I think it was either Bonk or KC, possibly Blazing Lazers.  It was at a friends house, I was staying overnight & we were going to Disneyland the next morning.  I played Bonk almost all the way thru, I remember being flippin' tired & trying to get myself up that vertical area in level 5 with the blocks that open up right after you land on them, I eventually gave up :D  I know he also had Bloody Wolf, but, someone was borrowing that.  So, yeah, it had to be either BL, KC, or Bonk.  Man, playing the Turbo when it was new....that is such a freakin' great memory!  Man, it's wierd, but I can smell that new(ish) Turbo, those were the days!

Keith Courage

Vigilante was the first one I ever played. It was on display at a Montgomery Wards Electric Avenue. The first games I ever owned that came with the system bundle I bought were Keith Courage, Fighting street, Ys 1&2, and Monster Lair.

soop

As always, I have PC Engine, but out of the seven games I got with my GT in around '97...  I would probably shoved in Afterburner II, but I remember playing the shit out of PC Kid 2, so it may well have been that.

OrangeArmy

Keith Courage in 1990. Dad went to the store with the goal of bringing home a NES for my birthday but came back with a TG instead after a sales guy talked him into it.

Before that our house only had a Commodore VIC 20 for gaming.

Gogan

Keith Courage ca. 1989

Bought the system after seeing one their sweet advertisements.  :-k
Nothin beats the real thing.

In 1990, I entered and won a contest for a TG-16 system with 2 games, "Keith Courage" and "Bloody Wolf", so it'd be one of the two... I would bet that at the first glance of Keith Courage, given the way the first level starts, I probably didn't give it a chance initially (not yet knowing that you transform into a robot and the real action begins), so I'd bet that I started playing Bloody Wolf first, an obvious, kickass-looking action game that was easy to get in to! So yeah, Bloody Wolf!

kamiboy

Bonk on a store demo unit at the local mall in the early 90's. Might sound pretty mundane, but keep in mind this was in Europe. That was the only time I ever saw the Turbo or any games for it.

Memory of that single game all those years ago brought me back when shitty current gen standards pushed me to start buying older gen games a few years back.

jlued686

Keith Courage, Christmas 1990. I knew little-to-nothing about the console, but my Dad got it for me because it was a whopping $20 cheaper than the Genesis at the store he went to. The only things I had seen about it were the cartoon ads for Bonk and Splatterhouse, which I thought were bad ass.

I remember popping in Keith Courage for the first time and thinking it looked pretty awesome graphically. I was a little disappointed by how one-dimensional it seemed, though. No real hidden areas, etc. After playing Super Marios 2 and 3, I was hoping for a bit more depth, I guess.

The only Christmas that topped that one was the year I got a Turbo Duo. Best-Christmas-EVER!

motdelbourt

I got a Turbo Grafx 16 from Babbages with Keith Courage of course. But shortly after that I ordered some used games from Game Dude. There was Bonk's Adventure, Neutopia, Ninja Spirit, and maybe a couple others. Not a bad lineup. I had a SNES at that point but kept coming back to the Turbo. Still do.

rag-time4

My first time was with my next door neighbors around 91. The first one I tried was Battle Royale, of which my only memory (from that session) was the character select screen. I just remember being disgusted by the gameplay. We made it a trifecta that day with China Warrior and Axe II.

city41

Mine was Keith Courage in 1989. I got a TG16 at launch. At first KC blew me away with its graphics. But its gameplay soon underwhelmed me.

PunkCryborg

First for me was Bonk's Adventure at a game store kiosk when I was a kid. Then my neighbor who's mom owned a game store let him take home a duo with Super Air Zonk

SuperPlay

My first play would have been Chan and Chan in early 1990 on the PCE.

joeawesome

Bloody Wolf at a friend of my brother's house in the early 90s. Hadn't touched a TG-16 since I finally bought one in 2010, and the first game I played then was Keith Courage. I've played Bloody Wolf, since (mainly for nostalgia, yet strangely I hardly remembered it), and it's nothing like I thought it'd be, hahaha!

tpivette

First game I played was Keith Courage back in Dec 89'. My parents chose the Turbo over the Genesis that year for a Christmas present. They also got me Blazing Lazers along with the system... what an awesome Christmas that year!

To this day, I still have that original Turbo system that I got over 22 years ago... it still works and I play it regularly!
Original owner of a TG-16 since 1989!

CURRENTLY PLAYING:
Vita - Conception 2
PS3 - Tales of Graces f
Wii U - Monster Hunter 3 Ulltimate

The first game that I ever played was Bonk's Revenge. I believe that was in 1995. I recently bought a turbo grafx, I'm mostly a super nintendo collector but really enjoyed my friends tg16 when I was younger.been playing bonk's revenge again :D

GohanX

My first wasn't until 2001 or so when I discovered that TZD.com still sold new Duos. I bought a Duo with the Gates 4 in 1 disc, and I'm pretty sure Bonk's Adventure was the first game I played. I didn't really care for it, so I quickly switched to Gate of Thunder and was blown away.

Oddly enough, I didn't really appreciate Bonk's Adventure until sometime last year when I gave it another chance. I really like it now!

They didn't start selling them til around 2001, they had kept a backstop of new ones to swap out as part of their repair program. When the repair program ceased via TZD they started selling their inventory of Duo's and Expresses.

How much were new systems and such on Turbo Zone Direct?
IMG

billyh455

Blazing Lazers on a Turbo Express in late 1990 (I think). I had never played anything other than NES and Gameboy up until that point and my dad brought the Express, a tuner and Blazing Lazers home from work one Friday. I got to play with it over that weekend and was blown away. I asked for a Turbo Grafx that Christmas but oddly never got Blazing Lazers until years later.

I paid $199 for my new Duo, it was complete in retail box, but had no games included. I think the Gates 4 in 1 disc was $30, and Lord of Thunder was $30 or $35, both new.

whitetrashshayno

China warrior in 2010. got a turbo with  5 games for 20 bucks. Played china warrior first, then shockman, then bravoman, then bloody wolfe. Played the fuccck outta bloody wolfe.

Oh okay. thanks for getting back to me. Looks like the website/store closed in 2008, so in a way, I just missed it. At the time though Turbo Grafx anything didn't catch my attention. lol
