PC Cocoron, I'd be really interested to have a look at what this game looks like anyone know if there are any screen shots or even better videos on the web anywhere?

I contacted the owner of a website that has screenshots of the game and mAde an offer of 1,000 american dollars. I believe the sex was a female from japan, and her english was pretty bad. To be honest I'm really surprised the owner of the rom hasn't sold it, when they could have thousands of dollars or a game only they can play, I just don't understand it.

If the owner hasn't been offered enough money yet, to get the max amount of money they could do a print run similar to anime4ever's Space Fantasy Zone.
Even with the tiny PCE fanbase for a game like this they'd probably easily sell over a 1000 copies at $50 each.

The problem is that they won't sell those 1000 copies, at least not right away. As soon as a few people get their hands on them, the ROM will get dumped and there will be far less demand for a $50 burn.

Over time, they might sell all 1000 of them. Look at the Sapphire booties for example.

Methinks they just love having something that nobody else has.

kamiboy

I beg to differ. Most collectors would choose a sleek complete repro copy like Sapphire over a plain burned CD they made themselves any day of the week.

The issue is most likely just a question of owning something unique. Something that you know for a fact only maybe a handful of people in the world own, or can ever own. That is the ultimate proposition for a hard core collector. So it is not really an issue of money.

spenoza

That is why I will never be a hard core collector. I like having something others don't have, but not because they CAN'T have it. I prefer to have things that are under-appreciated rather than unobtainable.

kamiboy

I just like playing good game. The fact that I also have to own them hearkens back to not having the chance to own any of the games or system I lusted for growing up, so there is a psychological component driving my collecting habits.

Older gen gaming would be a lot easier if that were not the fact.

If there is a price that the PC Cocoron owner would agree to (for a rip/copy), we could all contribute to the pot, that is if the number is feasible. It would be crazy and silly, but our purchase would go down in the gaming community history books!

I think part of it is that the owners assume that releasing the ROM makes their prototype worthless. Not usually the case, but if it was, to the seller, selling the original or selling a copy might make little difference.

Let's be honest, most of the community probably just wants the contents of that prototype. Any of us can burn it and make a nice case/cover for it for a couple bucks.

I'm sure there are plenty here (myself included) who would chip in to see this released. I've been reading about this one probably since I joined this forum.

Pretty much, unless the disc has been backed up to an ISO.

Though I just read through the thread I posted above and the comments (mainly from Jammaniaclord) suggest that there were several of them. I'd love to see the image get released to the public.

Jammaniaclord

This was like back in 2003/04, when i was heavily into the pc engine scene. For the longest time i saved the e-mail traffic, but trashed it after a while because it reminded me of how pointless the pursuit was. I was even in talks with Squaresoft 74 to round up people to pitch in, and i believe i stated i would get the cash cow going by lumping down my1,000 dollars into a paypal account created to collect funds until we reached a goal of a reasonable offer, then make our pitch to that same owner. Problem was, no body really knew each other face to face even though we were close friends of the scene, and of course there is going to be the trust issue, and who is going to take ownership/responsibility for the account/funds. It was a flash in the pan idea, wrought with obsession(understandably so), with great intentions to share with the community(well maybe make some money off it since it was rare, if we did get it, it would have cost all of us a handsome slice of our salaries, so in fairness, we woukd be in the right to charge some monetary fee to share a copy). I will be honest, i was crushed when they did not release the game. I waited and waited for a long time while it was being developed. DieHard Games used to run their ads in EGM, and had screenshots of all the awesome imports, and that was one of them. I used to call them and bug them about the release date. When they told me it was shelved i was crushed. Now i just dont care. I gave up. I will find the website that has the screenies. I do have those images saved on my laptop somewhere to this day. I look at them once in a very long blue moon. Sigh. Sniff.
PC Cocoron Hunter

Jammaniaclord

The link for the screens and the owner, was already posted in here by another user hyperlinked "here ya go". It is a geocities(god geocities is ancent!). I translated the site with a program i had back then and contacted her. It was like a big sushi-smelling middle finger in the face when i was rejected. She was polite about the rejection though, so my remarks are purely of frustrated jest, not rage filled loathing. If it is still the same exact website(which appears to be. Iunno.... It's been 8-9 years since then, and i dont have my laptop with me now to compare images, but if you translate the site, her e-mail is/was on there.

I agree, if she doesnt have it backed up, it could become a coaster, and it would be lost forever, all because she wanted to keep it for herself. Maybe she will bequeath it to me in her will, with a letter of apology. My luck, i'd have arthritis by then, and cruel fate would laugh in my face like Henry Rollins.
PC Cocoron Hunter

Jammaniaclord

Correct..... All i wanted was a copy. I wanted it because i wanted to play it and beat it, as well as tell the story of how i had one of the worlds rarest unreleased games, for the worlds most underappreciated gaming system. I wanted it to be something i could share with my close friends of the community as well. The owner is not stupid, and realizes her investment would depreciate under that umbrella, and i respect her diligence, regardless of how frustrating it is. There are several other ultra rare pc engine titles as well i would love to obtain an iso image of for my collection, but life has its priorities, and i am not richie rich throwing money at the ground for shits n giggles. I wish i were though, as you'd all be killing my bandwidth to get copies. Lol!

I would however settle for a detailed story of how she landed the prototype, and have it posted as a major article on this website, and any others. I think we have all wondered that scenario, and would be thankful for some insight on that.
