2/13/2025: Localization News - Cosmic Fantasy 3-4!

Rather earth-shattering news in the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 community: Cosmic Fantasy 3 & 4 has been officially localized to English by Edia 30 years later for the Switch! Hard to believe! I know their script quality is poor given the 1&2 port but still good to see.

Just wondering if anyone else is into online gaming via Supercade ... It's an emulator billed as 'lagless', and it allows multiplayer play for 180 games in the current build. It's mostly 1 on 1 fighting games but there are a fair number of beatemups available as well! Would love to play some of you guys at classic Street Fighter II champion edition or Hyper Fighting!

Id be up for some matches. I just installed it.

edit:

I played SF Alpha 2 some against a player tonite. There def is lag to some degree, and it fucks with you pulling off moves sometimes. Also, it seems to auto frameskip now and then, which I am assuming is to compensate for whats going on on the other plays computer, to keep things in sync. It can be a issue because fireballs will disappear at random.

edit again:

Lag and frame skipping was even worse against a player in Asia. Was totally unplayable. Anything I did had a noticeable delay onscreen, which also made blocking the other player near impossible.

Hey prof I saw you there in the lobby for a sec!

Yeah I played a little alpha 3 today with someone in brazil and it was really choppy... no fun at all so we just played a couple rounds. Generally though it's not too bad. It feels far less laggy than the mame32k i used to play on was.

To be honest I just couldn't play like that. When it gets to the point that it affects controls and blocking ability, let alone the visibility of projectiles, it isn't worth messing with. The first guy I played with was in the USA, and for some matches it went smooth for the most part and I did have some fun there, but sometimes the lag just kicked in a bit too much, and I found myself being left wide open doing standing strong kicks instead of hurricane kicks, etc. Two people I played with in Asia it was just a no go. I cant say how it was for them on their end, but on my end it was a sloppy laggy frame skipping mess that was mostly unresponsive. Control wise it felt worse then playing MK1 on Snes. I dont think I will bother again unless I know I am playing someone in the USA who has a good net connection.

My connection is fairly decent, maybe we can play sometime!

Here is a vid of me playing possibly the top player in the world at Hyper Fighting:

Note I got totally destroyed!
Interesting that there are a lot of strong feelings surrounding this game. If you guys check out the comments on the vid, some of these people have a vendetta against some of the old school players from LA that dominated the early SF2 scene.
