I don't know what it is, but I was playing through last week, and I think I got pretty far, but then I just left it on pause for an entire day until a friend came around, and we had to switch it off to play Soldier Blade.

One problem I have is that there doesn't seem to be any purpose in getting the smileys, as all they let you do is play the bonus games.  But other than that, it really lacks the fun of the other two somehow.

Jossshhhhh...Legendary TurboTrollX-16: He revenge-bans PCE Developers/Ys IV Localizers from PCE Facebook groups and destroyed 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Josh and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner (extortion/blackmail!), never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

I find the two player mode to be a little too much.  Ya kinda get in each other's way, although it was a nice touch.  :)  I actually like 3 a lot, but 2 is my favorite.

soop

2 is my favorite.  Forgot there was a 2 player mode!  Is that on the CD one only, or the HuCard one too?

Yeah 2 player mode is what saves it for me!

Bah, you're crazy.  Bonk 3 is clearly the best of the bunch.

The smileys serve the same purpose as in the other games - points, refilling your life meter, and earning extra lives.  The only difference being that Bonk 3 makes you play (and excel at) the minigames instead of just giving it all to you for free.

How do you get lives from the games?  Getting every smiley?

I thought I was spending smileys to try and win less smileys.

You get an extra guy for every x number of points.

Why do you think their is not a four? :-"

Two was completely off the hook, I will agree ( especially with topless dino-mamas ), but three was more of a gimick. It was fun as well, but I believe the SNES is also probably fault of that. They were not thinking in terms of a fun game, but more in terms of young children?

The same probably occured with Y's 4 SFC. Which is totally bdsm by Y's 4 PCE.
Then Y's 5 comes along and everybody says it is too easy  So they made a second Y's 5. The complete reversal of FF4 ( or was it FF5? ).

I know, I hate when something cool, totaly goes commercial. I so want to check out that "South Park RPG" but alas I do not even know what it feels like to own a PS3, and I certainly do not want to feel like what it is to own a 360.

It's the same problem with all the Bonk games, really. You end up collecting so many smileys and 1ups that the whole thing becomes pointless. There's no incentive to keep amassing 1ups you don't need to finish the game. It becomes pointless busywork and I end up just not caring anymore. After playing through these games tens of times, it's actually more fun to try to finish them collecting as few 1ups as possible. At least then there is some challenge.

HercTNT

well, i guess that depends on how good you are at the game kaze, some people may need those smileys to keep them going. It also gives them alittle extra content, a little more to do. Would you prefer they left it out all together? Smileys are part of bonk.

kazekirifx

Maybe some different balancing of the difficulty may have helped. I found the original Bonk's Adventure to be the most difficult, but still maybe a bit too easy once you've had some practice. The difficulty of the Bonk games feels a bit too kid-friendly. There's no feeling of do-or-die when experienced gamers play them. You just play them for the sake of playing through them, like playing Contra or Life Force with the 30 life code.

Samurai Ghost

Well even though they are different games in a lot of ways, there are a lot of similarities to Bonk and Super Mario Bros. The power-ups, smashing enemies, bright, colorful graphics and the easy difficulty. I don't they were trying to rip off Mario per se, but let's face it, Bonk is their (very good) attempt at a fun, entertaining, character-based action platformer which needed to be kid friendly and easy to pick up and enjoy. If you are looking for extreme challenge it's not the place to find it.

CPTRAVE

Hey I would love to have that game, it looks like a lot of fun especially with 2 players.

HercTNT

i can understand how bonk 3 is not everyone's cup of tea. but boring? hard to imagine!!!! its a very good game, maybe, not as good as two, but very good. play it again, then decide.

PCEngineHell

My son and daughter liked the Bonks a lot, but I have never been a huge fan of them myself. Not that they are bad games, they are great games in general, but not really my type of game. What little I saw of Bonk 3 played on Magic Engine a few years back looked cool and all, but not anything I would go out of my way to buy.

HercTNT

i don't blame you, the fun of bonk is in mutiplayer. without it, its kinda generic. bonk 2 is better as a single player game. if you have two playrs though, bonk 3 is worth it.

Bardoly

I really enjoy multi-player games, and I've been keeping me eyes open for a reasonably priced copy of Bonk 3 to no avail so far.  Other than language, is there really any difference between the Japanese release and the U.S. release?  I have a region-modded Duo, so I have the ability to play any of the 4 versions released.

Drakon

I love 3 I think it's the best one.  2 is my second favourite and 1 my third favourite.

Nothing of import - the only difference is the powered up Bonk sprites after he eats meat.

Super Bonk, dipshit.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Obfuscate

Only time I ever had fun playing Bonk 3 was with my 7 year old playing two player. I think 1 and 2 are demonstrably better.

Well, I've really enjoyed playing Goof Troop, Joe & Mac, Pocky & Rocky, etc... for SNES with my 6-year-old and my 7-year-old sons, so we'd probably enjoy playing Bonk 3 as well...  Now to find a reasonably priced copy...
