Somewhat OT: Watching Pat the NES Punk's "Flea Market Madness", Retroware TV's "Game Chasers", or Screw Attack's "Retro Hunters", always reminds me how lucky I am to live in Japan, where there are so many great used games to be easily found. They hardly ever find anything interesting in any of the above mentioned shows. I guess that makes the hunt all the more thrilling though.

I would love to go to japan I think collecting would be a lot easier and cheaper.

well a trip to japan is a wonderful experience. but if you are only coming for games, the airfair and exchange rate won't give you a good deal at all.

Damn, I would love to go there someday.  But, I would be lost not knowing how to read Japanese.    Maybe someday....

19'995en for a near loose DUO-RX is more than almost every shop in akiba would ask for.

It seems that HOs are still cheaper in the Kanto region

But man, a very nice video there. well done

I was there in 2001 and it really wasn't bad at all. People are SUPER friendly and willing to help you out. Japan is like nothing else.

We got around via the trains, for that just make sure you have a pad and paper so that you can copy the Kanji and tell people where you want to go. lol

We had an older lady go into the train station with us and walk us to the platform where we needed to go, and that wasn't the only time we experienced some amazing hospitality.

Kabuchiko at night was different, not bad, just different, but TONS OF FUN! Not sure what that area is like now.

Ueno park is a must once you get a little gaming break too.

I wasn't really looking for 'deals' per se, I did it for fun. Besides, most of the money I used came from my JPN bank account which holds money I make in Japan so the exchange rate doesn't really affect me. When I use U.S. money converted to yen, then the exchange rate would kick my kintama.

I think it just depends on where you go, even in Tohoku. I always pay less in Tohoku than I do down in Chiba. Pricing up there is VERY random. I mean, damn, the best deal ever was a MINT CIB SuperGrafx for 500 yen. I really think they made a mistake, but I took advantage of it.



I'll be doing this again next month since I'll be in Japan anyway for the Tokyo Game Show. Not going to make a movie of it since it would be more of the same, but I'll be driving aimlessly around Tohoku doing the same thing. Next year, perhaps in February, I'll be doing this in the Hokuriku area (Ishikawa, Toyama, Fukui, Nagano, Niigata, etc). Nagano and Niigata have some really good places, along with Ishikawa.
