10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Sega does what Nintendon't, but only NEC does better than both together!^^

I got tired of it fairly quickly. like Nando said repetitive.

Edited my official vote to No.
Gypsies did it.

Got no luv for the krackers only slugs for the krackers!

CrackTiger

It is freaking awesome. Fun is its strongest asset. If you can play PCE HuCards, just get BeBall.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Luckily you can continue your game. I wouldn't want to be forced to play through the whole game in one sitting... it's long enough that, yes, it can get repetitive. It's still quite fun and I always seem to enjoy myself when I push (roll?) through a few levels.

Yes, I totally agree with everyone else.  It's original enough, and very fun, but you wouldn't want to finish it in one sitting.

So what type of game is it?  I don't know anything about it (guess I could just watch a vid on YouTube, but you guys are more informative). I have never seen it in action and I never got the ROM to try it out.

Luckily Sunteam Paul has written down everything you need to know, with video and screenshots! http://www.pcengine.co.uk/HTML_Games/Be_Ball.htm

I like Chu Man Fu. It gets tedious after a little while. I'd describe it as a good game to play on the express as it's fun for short periods of time and doesn't require much text.

kiketonto

like every puzzle game. it's fun in his way

soop

You know what's amazing though?  PUZZNIC.

If that were the only game you had for the system, it would last you months.

CMF is fun as fuck.

you're some stumpy Chun Li lookin chick pushing giant balls into crap.

It's fun.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

Nazi NecroPhile

Due to the aforementioned tedium and monotony, I also only like it in small doses.  It's fun but loooooong.

P.S. - In addition to the PC Engine Bible, check out The Bros. Duomazov and keep 'em bookmarked.

I didn't think it was too repetitive, I played it for hours when I first got the game.

Definitle a lot of fun.

bob

I'll check out the reviews, but its more fun to get peoples take on it from the forum.

So I've gathered that its somewhat fun, a bit repetitve, good on the crapper (ie, good on TE), it stars Chun Li's orphaned baby, you push balls into things, and its been reviewed a number of times.

Great, maybe somebody on ebay has it available for under $500 so i can pick it up.

I like how unique the game is. It's repetitive but 550 levels is a ton of bang for a buck plus it mixes a good amount of strategy and action in one title. I remember playing it for over 2 hours at one time.

soop

Nice review paul.  Didn't know about the different colour properties.

galam, everything has been said.

But you want more.

So I'll satiate your lust:

To build on what Arkhan eloquently pointed out, there is a sublime satisfaction derived from manipulating the GIANT SPHERES in this game. It's not that the physics are particularly realistic, but they grab you buy the gut. "These spheres are huge!" you whisper to yourself. "...and they hold tremendous power."

At its visceral core, Chew Man Fu is all about the balls.

You think I'm joking, or even worse, being juvenile.

But I'm not.
