Maybe it's time to change from PHPBB to something else? The number of spam bots is getting kinda ridiculous, and PHPBB is only good for that purpose (attracting spam bots, that is).

Thank you for your concern about the spam appearing in the forums.  I am currently taking steps to eliminate the problem, so please be patent while these measures are bring implemented.

I would say that's a very strong likelihood.  I just toasted over a hundred spam users from my board   Trouble is you don't really know who unless you see the post.

I don't know about you, but if I sign up at a message forum, go somewhere for 14 days (or just plain not visit the forums for 2 weeks) and come back to find my ID deleted, I wouldn't be too terribly happy.  Also, I'd guess about 75% of forum traffic are lurkers - people who signed up with an ID and password to keep track of new posts and such.  Not everyone posts.  Besides, the members with 0 posts aren't doing anything anyway but sitting in an SQL table

Well, if you're not going to be on the boards for 2 weeks after registering, it just makes it look like you've intended to post but lost interest at the last second.  If you're going to register, put some posts up so that we here on the boards know that you want to be a part of the community.  Hell, put up one post introducing yourself and what you like about the boards and PCEngine for all we care and that's good enough for us to keep you on the list longer than two weeks.  As for lurking, you can read posts on this board just fine without registering so that argument doesn't make sense.

Well, I suppose lurkers might want to read "unread posts from last visit" ... so OD has a point. I never considered the lurkers, myself, otherwise I would have totally agreed with you.

I never would have either, but I speak from years of experience   I myself am signed up at numerous forums that I never post at, and may never.
