Localization Legend "Supper the Subtitler" has "joined the club" in being targeted for CD-pressings by bootleg master Tobias/PCEWorks! His projects like Private Eyedol, Galaxy Fräulein Yuna 1 & 2, etc. are now being sold on Chinese factory-pressed CDROMs...

Hello!  Please ignore my stupid thread title.  But yes, this is my first post.  I am very much a newbie (noob, n00b, idiot, whatever you want to call it, I don't care), when it comes to NEC consoles.

So, I'm sure some of you will call me a heretic and banish me to hell, but I've never even played an NEC console! (gasp)  But that is why I am here!  I recently obtained some TG16 and TGCD games, and over the last couple months I have been doing research about the systems and I have gotten increasingly interested.

I never even heard of a TurboGrafx growing up, and it was only a few years ago that I found out what TG16 stood for.  But, in a way, this is also incredibly exciting!  Because I get to experience it all for the first time, much like I'm sure many of you did as children.

My first goal - is to get some consoles that don't cost a million dollars, and play some of the games that I've never had the chance to play.  I'm very excited about it and I hope to get some good information here.  I only have a few games right now but I'm definitely looking to get more, so if there are any MUST-PLAY titles, let me know!

Thanks very much for having me here and please don't kill me.

Welcome aboard!

what's your budget? what kind of games do u like to play? what kind of tv will u be hooking your system up to? and a recommendation. Get a modded unit to have access to all the games from the get go. There are some fantastic jp titles to discover. Finally check out the homebrew from the "locals."

Hello - I like all kinds of games, but mainly platformers, shooters, and RPGs.  I have a 27" color TV (non HD, non flat-screen).   I don't have a huge budget, so I'll be starting small and building up.

And I'll definitely need to play JP games because I already have a few of them.

Thanks!

Not knowing what games you have already, I'd put "Ys - Book I & II" on your short list. To keep cost down, start off with some common US HuCards like Blazing Lasers, Bonk's Adventure, Ninja Spirit, Alien/Devils Crush, Dungeon Explorer, Military Madness and Legendary Axe. Can anyone chime in if Super Star Soldier is fetching a high price now days?

The group here will want to know if you have a "Super system card 3.0"...that will open a vast plateau of goodness for you. Having no Hu convertor will leave out the import cards. There is a fairly involved mod if you're tech minded to play them, if you are so inclined. Sometimes the Japanese version is cheaper that the US counterpart.

If you do not mind running a flash card to play your games, there is that option also for playing all Hu's.

Thanks very much for the suggestions!

Bonk's Adventure, Legendary Axe, and Dungeon Explorer are on my list of games to get.  As well as Somer Assault.

I have some odd games like Jantei Monogatari (various), and Quiz Marugoto the World (various).

I have no idea what a "super system card 3.0" is but I'll be doing some research now :)

Thanks!

I say don't do it!  Once you buy a few NEC machines and games, then the addiction really kicks in and you have no money for anything else.

Welcome, sadikyo. Your light wallet and heavy heart should not be obstacles to PCE/TG-16 enjoyment. There are plenty of affordable pleasures. Sadly, though, you will probably lust for the $$$ titles on occasion. Those will be the difficult days. :pcgs:

To echo tatsujin and Hollo, IT IS AN ADDICTION YOU CAN'T BREAK.

Ain't that the truth. Wait till you start digging into the JP catalog.

I'm treading a very thin line here so take any advice with a grain of salt. Emulating and or buying a flash card to try out games for the system is a good way to get a feel for its impressive catalog. Specially for lesser western known titles. It makes discovery easier on the wallet. That being said, you know all about the whole pirating bit and what not.

A Must Visit btw:

Happy Gaming!

Thanks everyone for your advice and kind words! :)

I'm already a video game collector of other consoles, so don't worry, I understand about the 'addiction' and the expensiveness (is that a word? heh).

I'm really excited to get started.  Step one though, is to get some consoles :)

Thanks again!

Rondo of Blood is a must have platformer.  For shmups, starting with Gate of Thunder is good because it comes on the 4-in-1 disc with Bonk 1, 2, and Bomberman.
