12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

Posting this up because I'm actually really curious to find out if their are any other members on here that ride a sk8board .. I've been sk8boarding since 86' .. My older brothers were into skateboarding and of course I had to follow as a little 6 year old dude in their foot steps .. I actively still sk8board and ride for a small time sk8board company called Sensitive skateboards .. Sk8boarding had been my one and only passion until around 99' when I started to get into gaming and collecting .. After I had a taste of how awesome it felt to have some of the older game consoles from the past and share them with friends I got hooked! Street fighter 2 was what really got me into collecting at first, I started looking for all the console ported versions of it and would have some really competitive battles with my friends after a long day of sk8boarding and being filmed .. Smoking fat blunts, pounding 40's of Mickeys and playing some 2d fighters with friends quickly became a everyday ritual after that .. lol what can I say now that I think about it at age 33 I guess I was just a typical kid from the suburbs of SE Los Angeles ..

Over the past 10 years a lot has change in my personal life because of the freedom I was able to have being a paid sk8boarder .. I slowly started to seek out other gamers that were a little more into collecting games and consoles and were not into partying like I was .. It's been really rough at times becoming close friends with other gaming nerds because of our obvious lifestyle differences .. It's been pretty rad in the past 4 years though, I slowly became the gamer sk8 dude with all the consoles at home that welcomes his family and friends over to enjoy some retro gaming, home cooked meals and a great peaceful vibe once you enter into my otaku life!

I used to all the time.  I was really into jumping off of really high things to see if I'd land without painful results.

I used Powell and Hook Ups boards, independent trucks, bones swiss bearings, and powell wheels

But then all the local skateboarders started picking on me since I was 4-5 years younger, had bright orange hair, and wore stupid looking clothes...so I went home and played Skate or Die 2 instead.   If I tried to use paintguns and eggs in real life, I'd be beaten to death.   Kind of odd looking back now, that the so-called rebellious dudes picked on me.    POSEURS.   YEAH.

Then I got into rollerskating instead.  Real rollerskates, not rollerblades.  I still use powell wheels and bones swiss bearings.  ;).

Yeah, it was my life for many years.  There was a pretty big scene in my city, and I still see a lot of people I met through skating.  A lot of them were or became sponsored/pro.

I miss it.  I toyed with the idea of getting a new deck last summer, but it was never really dry long enough.  My old one is second hand, so it's not really set up the way I like it, but I know the local shops blanks are really good at the moment.

I was thinking the same thing, actually.  I haven't been on a skateboard in a long time.  It might be fun to see how long I can go before I crack the deck in half from jumping off a flight of stairs for the 490230923th time.

I almost wanna get a fishtail one so I can be legit as fuck.

EDIT: But, its fucking January in Ohio, so that can wait.

Awesome, their is some ol sk8 heads up in here! Sk8boarding & Gaming I love it! This pic here is of the guy that started Hook Ups brand back in the early 90's .. The very first dude to incorporate anime and gaming in his sk8 video's and sk8board deck art work .. My number one sk8boarding hero of all time Jeremy Klein .. He was a game tester and was involved with TTI back in the days .. I have some high profile sk8r friends that are buddies with him .. Ive been working on trying to meet up with him to get some insider news on the company and to to find out what his Pc Engine collection is like ..

I use to skate evey now and then, never really got into, other things came along somewhere down the line.   I still have a very lightly used element skateboard somewhere with independent trucks, and TNT bearings... man was I proud when I eaned enough for that set up.  I still find the board every now and then and think about the days as a teenager riding the board around (p.s. I haven't seen a jeremy klein anything in years)
NW: Hey, I made it on this psycho's Enemies' List, how about that ?? ;)
BT: Look at how the fake SFII' carts instantly sold out and were immediately listed on eBay before the flippers even took possession. Look at Nintendo's overpriced bricks. Look at the typical forum discussions elsewhere. You can't tell most retro gamers anything!

I remember one time, we were all hanging out at Laser Quest (as usual) and I fancied a skate, but I didn't have my board, so I asked my friend if I could borrow his brand new, unblemished Hook Ups deck.  He reluctantly agreed, on the proviso, be very careful, and no boardslides.  He wasn't much of a skater.

Anyway, it just so happened that his favorite band (Therapy) had just been ... signing stuff?  In the local Virgin Megastore, completely unbenkownst to us.  As I came back down the hill, there they were standing outside smoking a fag.  God know how I knew it was them, might have been that they were all wearing Therapy shirts or something.  So I was all like "Hey, aren't you guys Therapy?" and had a little chat with them, and said "hey could you guys sign my friends board?"  Really lovely guys, they obliged.

But I decided to ham it up a bit.  On entering, I kept the board faced away, and with a sheepish look on my face, I was like "eerrr, dude, about your board..."

His eyes went wide.

I...  I kinda ... GOT IT SIGNED BY THERAPY.

His eyes went wider, and then he picked me up and spun me around.  He dashed off to see them, but they were gone.  I expect he still has it, and it was never used again.

Yeah, well the boobs are so big its no wonder they're heavy.

I like the powell boards.   They are a nice weight and are pretty sturdy.   Plus, the art is pretty cool.

I want to put rails on whatever board I get.    Why am I looking at skateboards.  Goddamn.

One thing I never got into was ramps.   I was too hesitant on the halfpipes and would always kinda bail.

God yeah.  The most I ever did on a ramp was when we got drunk and bundled over the wall to the back of the skate shop one night, because they had a mini-ramp out the back.  How I didn't severely injure myself I have no idea.

Must have been all that practice of skating drunk I suppose.

I was more a fan of doing things like it was 1979 since most of what I figured out on skateboards came from some HOW 2 SKAETBORD book from the 70s.   So they were using Banana boards and shit.   It was pretty hilarious.

I was going to mention Jeremy Klein, but you already know about him, so, I digress.  I used to skate, but I never could do anything, & I mean, doing an ollie was a chore!  I could maybe barely do one while NOT moving.  I found doing a 180 kick flip was much easier, but I still couldn't really skate.  I mainly just hung out with skaters, & moved my board in the direction of wherever they were headed :D  This was all north of you, in the Conejo Valley/Thousand Oaks/Westlake Village area.  Mainly hung out with Daniel Mullenix.  I haven't talked to him in years, I think he ended up getting big into Hapkido.

I don't think any of the guys I hung around became big or anything, but I think they ended up knowing some of the big timers BITD.

I was big into skating right around the same time the TurboGrafx was alive. So yeah, it was hand-in-hand for me. Skate around town, come home and play Turbo.

I was the same as ParanoiaDragon, though. I just skated around; never did much in the way of tricks or jumping off shit. Just did it for fun and transportation.

Music kind of took over from there as my primary hobby, but now that I have kids I've been wanting to get them into skating. My oldest son is only 5, though, so we got him one of those Razr scooters and I thought I'd buy a longboard next summer so I can tool around with him a bit as he learns.

Skateboarding since 95, busted my ankle in 2001 that ended it all, 2 bolts are holding my left ankle in place, still skate but more of just crusie and Ollie of or on to curbs.

Turbo and Skateboarding define my childhood.  I still skate regularly and have been since '91 or so.
If anybody has seen the video "The Hot Chocolate Tour", there is a scene at the beginning that was filmed in Boston.  Spike Jonez directed it and I was an extra.  There is a pack of kids chasing Marc Johnson, Richard Mulder, Gino Ianucci, Rick Howard, and many others through the streets of Boston and I was one of the "pack" chasing them.

I have collected quite a bit from my skateboard past, but too bad (like games), the boards are commanding top dollar since the runs were so limited.

Anyway, here's me somewhat recently...
I also have a pretty massive sticker collection...

/turbo/skate/skate1.jpg

By far, my most cherished belonging is this deck.  It's a prototype Tony Hawk (signed) from when he first launched Birdhouse (Jeremy Kliens team prior to Hook Ups and after World Industries if I remember correctly).  My mother went to San Diego in '92 and stopped into the Carlsbad Pipeline.  Tony happend to be there along with Ray Underhill and he gave her the board.  It's gripped and ridden for one day (GGRRRRR), because we all remember how impossible it was to hold on to a shiny new deck when you needed one!

/skate5.jpg

Somebody offered me $1000 on another forum once, which I refused.  He understood.

I look for some of my old photos, I was heavy into it. Busted my ankle doing a back side board slide from a 10 stair rail. Here in Vegas we had some sweet skate spots, Las Vegas Academy was the spot, and some elementery schools, a lot of casinos had nice spots behind the buildings but those sessions will only last 30 minutes tops before security came.

Fuck, Galam, that's sweet.  I really want to get some decks on my wall too, but most of mine got busted and thrown away.  I think I still have my first Alien Workshop deck at my moms, but who knows.  It's a dream.

I guess I'm like Arkhan.  Never did ramps or massive stairs, but where I live it's all hills and a massive chill-out spot in the centre of town where everyone heads, so I got really good at oldschool stuff (one of my nicknames was oldschool Tom), and I was big into manuals, nose manuals, no-complys and all up in my grills.  Oh and nosebones!  Man this is totally bringing it back!  I know I can still do stuff.

My olly was super high too.  I remember being able to do (quick) indy grabs into manual.  Caveman grinds... One day I'll tell you about the mad apple guy.  He was trying to do hardflip body varials, whilst high on acid.  Nearly got them too.

Ummm...  Famous skaters from BITD:  Danny Wainwright, Flynn Trotman, DJ Die from full cycle (Like Ronnie Size and that) ummm...  Those were the famous guys back then, but I heard some of the other guys are pretty big now.

Here's another guy http://sidewalk.mpora.com/news/new-korahn-gayle-footage-from-crayon-skateboards.html  He's pretty good, but then he always was, way better than me.  I was chatting to him one day, And I was on about how I liked Mecca Jeans, and he gave me a pair he didn't want :)  Apparantly he's pretty good now.

I used to love skating in college. I was never awesome, but I could do all the basic flip tricks, had a decent ollie and could do nose and board slides like a boss. :D Never got the 360 flip down; I can't even begin to imagine the number of hours I've spent trying. I could get my front foot back on but never my back foot. :(

Honestly I really miss skating, it was a pretty big part of my life for a while. I'll still fuck around in my garage from time to time, but at my age I'm too embarrassed to go to parks anymore. I need to watch a few hours of 411VM, drink a few beers and find a quiet parking lot. :D

EDIT: Whatever happened to skating anyway? In college *everyone* skated. You could go to your drive way and practice tricks and meet several of your neighbors doing the same. Nowadays I just see kids on long boards. I never see anyone attempting kickflips anymore. :(

Anyway, yeah. College for me was defined by delivering pizza and skating while waiting for runs. Then I'd get off of work, indulge in now legal things in CO and go skating some more. Good times!

OldRover

I did it for a short while when I was 17... around the time I was trying to get back into playing the guitar after I had messed up my hand a few years prior. Didn't really do it for very long though. :(

I have been sk8in' between the years 1988 and 1996. my first pro board was the powell peralta's mcgill. later in the 80s I got the vision doublekick which imo pushed the sk8 board evolution a big leap ahead. this was such a great and stylish board at that time.
I was mainly in street style (no half-pipe), but with some ramps and fun boxes, rails and stuff.. so some of my fav. tricks were like impossible, div. kick-flips (double, 180, heel etc.), nose-bone, one-foot, div. grindings, rock-slides (benchs, rails, handrails etc.) and stairs & gap-jumps etc. in the city or on industrial areas.

my all time fav. skate movie is BAN THIS..lol. not from its todays view of skateboareder skills, but all in all a very entertaining and well made movie with lots of cool skaters and funny stuff. watching it every now and then :D

I can say that it was a big part of my youth until I started my apprenticeship.

sk8ting 'n' gaming was my dominant activity during all that time.

Nice.  Never got that good at rails personally.  I'm not sure I've seen ban this, but my personal faves are The Search for Animal Chin (old Powell movie featuring the Bones Brigade - it actually has a plot of sorts!) and Thrill of it all by Zero.  One skater has Gimme Shelter by the Stones for his section, and it works so damn well.

My favorite pro was always Mullen, just because he was doing stuff nobody could even think of, let alone pull off.  The stuff he did, I've never seen anyone else do.

But I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Richie Jackson.  Dude is insane:

Lol, watching him doing all that ubercrazy stuff feels almost kinda unreal. a great sk8er with lots of crazy ideas.
he has the TOTAL CONTROL.

and sure mullen is the best skater in any books. he alone invented about 90% of any known tricks up to day..lol.

Oh shit, Tatsujin in the sk8 house ? Nice .. I still to this day watch all The Bones Brigade video's .. Frankie Hill's part on Ban This is hell epic to date! Last year I got the hook up from a friend of mine and I got a very special invite to see the screening for the Bones Brigade documentary .. The whole Bones Brigade team was their except for Tommy Guerrero .. That was the first time in over 20 years I had been star struck by any former or current pro sk8r's .. I'm till date still really mixed up in the sk8board industry .. It's all part of what I grew up doing, but seeing all those dudes in the same place was soo amazing .. It was actually the first time The Bones Brigade was all in the same place in about a decade in a half .. Gators documentary is super good theirs also the Christian Hosi documentary and the Steve Rocco one called The Man Who Souled The World that ones is crazy sick .. It covers pretty much how Steve Rocco got the 90's street sk8n scene up and running full speed .. lol I'm always hungry to sk8 !!

dude, I feel you, but with skate shoes at the moment, the trend is for old school garish hipsterness.  I'm all about the 90's, so I had some baddass yellow custom bikes before the supra skytop 3's I'm rocking now

Quote from: guest on 01/08/2013, 09:50 AMSpeaking of old-school skaters, did you guys ever see the documentary on Mark "Gator" Rogowski? It's called "Stoked: The Rise and Fall of Gator". It's pretty damned fascinating, and it also has some great old-school skating footage.

I haven't seen this one heard it was good, did you the the one about Christian Hasoi, that one is pretty good.

Haven't seen the Hasoi one.

The Gator one blew my mind. He was my favorite skater back in the day, and I kind of forgot about him after I fell out of skating. Then I saw this movie, and SPOILER: he fucking killed a woman! What?!

Another good documentary to check out is Steve Rocco's "Man Who Souled the World".  It's a fun ride through the 90's skate powerhouses.

To mix in a bit of 'bob here, when I was featured in a magazine a couple years back, I made sure to wear a 4Star shirt for my photo...

Tatsujin

do you guys have any pictures from the old sk8ing times?

I have had only about two or three from the late 80s, but coulnd't find any of them so far :(

@NGH, yeah frankie hill (literally) rocked big times in ban this (and the soundtrack was so awesome too). even uploaded his part somewhere on youtube once.
also always was a fan of lance mountain. very oldskoolish guy. not the best, but instead probably the funniest sk8er of all time

I really would like to do some skateboarding again, but now I'm going towards the 38, and not the most flexible and light person anymore. probably will teach my son some few stuff, when he's bit more grown up.

Frankie Hill is too sick! He actually got back into the sk8boarding scene a little over a year ago .. He started a company called Hill skateboards .. He's on my facebook and is always posting up new pics and footage of what he is doing at the moment in his skateboarding .. He recently had a documentary made on his career, it was put together by a pro sk8boarder named Nate Sherwood .. It's pretty underground and hard to find though .. I'll post up the link when I find it .. Lance Mountain has always been one of my favorites, he was such a funny ass joker and a pretty decent vert sk8r .. Lance also has a really good story to tell about his life in sk8boarding on the Bones Brigade documentary .. Here are some pics Tatsujin, the first one is of me as a little dude learning backside airs in my back yard mini ramp in 87 .. The rest are scans from old 80's mags I have ..

FUCK YEAH fishtail skateboards.   Look how legit that tony hawk deck is
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

Have to say, I'm not a fan of fishtail decks.  I'm chucking all my old flatmate's stuff out tomorrow, including an oldschool fishtail which I'll never use.  It's not gripped, so I'm not even gonna dick around on it.
