When I get a game I tend to play it to see how far I can get but my untimate goal is to finish the games without any cheat code but there are certain game that I replay just for fun (Blazing Lazers, Legendary Axe, Cyber Core, TV Sport Basketball).

Or are there any games that no matter how hard you try it seems impossible to complete, for me I have a hard time completing "Space Harrier", I get to the last level but with no luck, R-type was also a bit of a pain to beat.
Looking for TG16 games I don't have already.

T2KFreeker

Hmm, well for fun or not, I would assume that the general idea of a game is to beat it, unless it's something like Pac-Man which seems to go on forever, but then you are trying to beat a scare even. I get what you are saying, but if you are playing games that aren't fun, what's the point in the first place?  Sorry, after the prickish comments, please continue with this thread. Was just my wandering thoughts being expressed.
END OF LINE.

I play Turbo because it's fun.  If I manage to beat a game in the process of having fun, all the better.
All is well. :)

Nazi NecroPhile

I play games with the goal of beating 'em, but I'll keep re-playing games that I know I'll never beat but enjoy (nexzr).  For the sake of variety, I also play games that aren't all that much fun, but I won't keep going back to 'em over and over.

Arkhan Asylum

Depends on the game.   Some games I just play to kill time and listen to the music.

I generally only set out to beat RPGs.    The rest, it's like yay I beat it.    but if not, don't care.

This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

Wait a min games can be beat? I just play with them till they get wet, but now I'm bringing out the whips.

For me, the fun comes from trying to beating the game. That's why I don't like playing MMORPGs, for example; I like ending screens

I think it does depend on the game.  But I'd say mostly just for fun on my end.

Lately I've been finishing off a few games I've had lying around for 20 years but never managed to beat.  Take that however you want it.
Current want list:  Bomberman 93

What he said.
My past-life would've surely led to our demise, and I had left it not a moment too soon. Our escape, though dangerous, had gone well. The train ride, sunlight, and passing snow-covered pine trees came together in a flickering show of our bright, new future together. Her head rested on my shoulder as she soundly slept to the gentle rocking of the passenger car. We felt freedom. We felt peace.

SuperPlay

Normally I select and play a game for 'fun'  however generally turns into  'I can beat this'.  Games that I get totally stuck on go into to pile that I will continue to chip away at occasionally.

Nec.Game.head

I play games to figure them out and eventually beat them .. If it's really fun but is too difficult for myself to beat then I will just get one of my gamer buddies in the mix and take turns on the stages until one of us beats it .. I really play games to see the endings, especially when playing rpg's ...
Finally playing these games I couldn't get my hands on back in 91' !!! Nec fan always !!!

Beating them is part of the fun but I don't torture myself trying to beat games I don't enjoy.

bartre

I generally play them until i get distracted, so, mostly for fun I guess.
however, occasionally i get a bug up my butt and decide to take a certain game down.
that, and when i'm gaming with one or two buddies, we'll just sit down with one game and bend it over the coffee table.

Aggie Tsubi

Both. :) I tend to have the most fun with games when I get really invested in them. If I mess around with a game, not really caring how well I'm doing or if I'm making any progress, I probably will grow tired of it soon and stop playing. The strive for progression (or to just do better in games that can't be beaten) keeps things exciting.

TheClash603

My typical approach is to beat 97% of a game and then stop.  For some reason I don't get satisfaction from an end screen, but rather it just kinda makes me sad because there is nothing left.

I have been doing this for 20 years...  all of my friends always make fun of me for it.

I specifically remember making it to the Bowser Castle in Mario Sunshine in college and just not finishing the game.  My roommate and I got in a big fight over it for some reason, because he said he was going to use my save to beat the game.  After like a month of arguing, I finally bit the bullet and beat the game rather than having to hide my memory card.

I do the same with my TG16 library...  :)

You get bugs in your butt!!!????  Yucky!

MrFlutterPie

I play causally for fun.  I have only ever beat one Turbo game in my whole life but what a ride that was :)

I recommend Vigilante its short and can be completed I an 30mins. By far the easiest Turbo game released.

I play them for fun, since I'm bad at shooters, I still can't pass the first level on Blazing Lazers, but I still play it. Frustrates me though, lol

Q: Fun vs. Ending Credits?

A: Both.

ULTIMATELY I want to beat every game I play, but, REALISTICALLY some games make me choke, so I just work on them year after year (Super Pitfall and Bayou Billy on NES, etc.)

I CERTAINLY PLAY FRUSTRATING and/or LAME GAMES in order to have fun/beat them. I get obsessed with games and I'll want to beat them (or, at least, get to the next stage), to the point of masochism. MASOCHISM IS FUN FOR ME.

Before I had a kid, I often played a game to beat it.  Now I play for fun.  When I have the opportunity.

I love Vigilante. Great sequel to Spartan X. It only takes about 15 to play through the game, plus not much more to practice. :)

Definitely agree with the above statement, I find myself trying to sneak in any little time to play.

I normally play for fun and also like to finish a game.

I normally play RPG and like to play more than one at the same time. Like now i'm playing, neutopia, Dragon Slayer, Nier, FF XIII and go from one to the other when i need some change.

DildoKKKobold

These days, I play my TG games to learn to speedrun them, which means resetting for small mistakes. Its made me love the easy-reset feature of most TG games.

Most Turbo games I played are all very fun, even some bad ones. I have only beaten Bonk games and Keith Courage, so I am not worried or get discouraged if I can't beat other games. Most Turbo games are really hard and a great challenge.

Huh???
I like to do both tool-assisted and regular speedruns, which means completing the game as fast as possible. There aren't a whole lot of TG runners, so I'd love some competition. Sites to check out:

Are you DK28 on speeddemosarchive.com?  That Legendary Axe speed run is awesome!  Watching someone else defeat the game with such aplomb reinvigorates my desire to finish it!
