Never got to play it myself, but wanted to eventually get around to it. Eh, didn't much like that track BTW. I should hope there are better ones for a Falcom game than that.

Most of the music in popful mail is rather upbeat but good at least. Though i still stand by that the sega-cd version is the definite one to play.

Sega CD version is great!  It's more action/platform and the pc-engine version is an updated pc-98 game that plays totally different.  I actually prefer the pc-engine version, plus the music is better in it to me.  I think most will like the Sega CD version better since it's a more straight forward game with awesome graphics.  The cut scenes in both games are also amazing.
