SFC to SNES adapters that can play Super FX carts

In my quest to obtain a SFC, I've been looking at adapters to play SNES games proper and found out that most adapters don't have the pins for the Super FX carts. Do you all have any recommendations on adapters/bridges?

And no, I don't want an SNES and I'd rather not cut anything out of the SFC unit.

GohanX

I've bought the ones that consolegoods.uk sells and they work. They are awkward since you have to have two carts plugged in, but you can't argue with results.

Tatsujin

why want you play that game? i had it in last week for checking purposes only, and it was like..houly caw..i can't even type it.

Will check them out, but two carts? Guess it will make more sense when I see it?

GohanX

It uses one cart for region checks, the idea is you would put the cart native to your system in one spot and the import in the other. There isn't much point on doing this on a Japanese system playing us games but it probably makes more sense in PAL land.

I've never had a game not work with it, but it's a little annoying always having to have two carts plugged in at once.

EvilEvoIX

Doesn't the Super NES games play famicom games?  I pulled out the two little brackets and it accepts Famicom carts?

It does, and it's pretty simple. However I do not like the look of the SNES at all.

GohanX

It's easy to play SFC carts on the SNES, a pita to play SNES carts on a SFC.

Why do you have a SFC?  SNES can play Japanese cartridges fine.  Just bust the plastic tabs off inside.

Saves you all this trouble of fucking around.

Nando

Is the snes 2 / mini easy to mod as well? I want to say NecroPhile or DDan said so.

Arkhan Asylum

I don't know.  It probably is.  On the regular SNES you can just flip the door open and see these two plastic tabs on the back sides.   Break them off with needle nose pliers.

Then, you can just shove SFC carts in the SNES and they play fine.  I do that for all of my games.

I really like the look of the hardware and have wanted one for my collection since forever. But at this point in time it's looking like it might not be worth it.

Just get a SFC and put a SNES inside of it! It might work, lol.  The buttons / switches kind of line up.

I'd laugh if it works.

The motherboards are the same, but the power connector is different. Replace the power connector and it fits just fine.

The SNES jr can be modded by breaking off the clips as well, just keep in mind that there is no rgb or s video hookups on that so you'll be stuck in composite unless you mod it.

looks like one can modify a SNES gamegenie cart and it will fit the SFC slot.

don't mean to derail the topic, but speaking of converters. Any of you guys know where i can get a converter to play famicom games on a NES?

Anyway, that just happened to be a coincidental link I ran into that fit ArkFaces comments.

The worst modder in the world.
Oh Snap!!!  The boys over on Neo-Geo.com don't play games neither, unless of course you are buying super rare carts thought not to have existed and then pay $20,000 per cart only to find they were fakes and then still allow the guy to stay there.

Some gameshops sell them now, or you could just find an old ass copy of Gyromite and bust it open, cause that's where they get the parts for those things anyways.

I love Neo-Geo.com for the excellent dramatic mini-series they produce. The Drakon thread was good fun, but the Aero Fighters 3 thread takes the cake!

Easily the best, and nothing happened to that guy, he kept the money and is still there.  That site has the highest level of internet arguing save for NASIOC back in the early 2000's.

I have 2 SNES's tab broken off for SFC Carts, I also have 2 Game Genies Modded for SFC Carts

DragonmasterDan

Breaking off the tabs in a SNES is the easiest way to do this.

The Game Genie won't work for games that have the FX chip as there's an extra PCB hanging off to the side. With regards to going the other way and playing SNES games on an SFC, you might as well take the top part of the cover of the SFC off as the carts just won't fit in the SFC.

EvilEvoIX

I have a later model SNES Model that doesn't yellow but won't work with my earlier version Game Genie.  Anyone have a model 2.0 SNES Game Genie?

I have an OG yellowed SNES I use with my launch Game Genie but the image has an ugly and persistent red grid all over it, IDK why.

What games are you putting in it. I recall some of the later release games detected the Game Genie, but it mostly worked.

geise

We ran Drakon away from here before neo-geo.com ever heard of him.  They even link to here where Mike/Prof runs him off.

Nando I know the SNES isn't as pleasing to look at.   However, busting off those tabs like others have said is really the easiest way to play.  There's also this:  http://www.amazon.com/Cartridge-Adapter-Super-Nintendo-Entertainment-S/dp/B007O3MWVG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389835200&sr=8-1&keywords=super+pro+8  It is a flash cart that can also be used as a converter.  The flash cart only supports games up to 32 megs though, and saving if you're playing from the flash cart is not straight forward.  However it should work fine as a converter.  Expensive for a converter but cheap for a flash cart.

Nando

Thanks Geise! That Flash cart looks sweet and it seems a user figured out why some of the units would stop working. Interesting.

I'm starting to lean towards the SNES Jr/Mini/2 and get a super fami later on.

Thank you all for the input.

If you don't like the look of the SNES, there is always the option of getting a SNES Jr, which, personally, I like the look better than the bulky original. The only thing is, I think anyway, you can't use the Game Genie on the Jr. I have one and tried it, while I was able to enter codes and such, they simply refused to work. You can do the same thing with the Jr, pulling the tabs out to play SFC carts. Otherwise, you're gonna have a bit of a tougher time.
The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long.

Opethian

The RGB cable also does NOT work with the jr/mini/snes 2 natively.

you can mod the system to use any cable you want though.
