Net Neutrality

[Nando]

Well fuck...

http://gizmodo.com/federal-court-invalidates-net-neutrality-rules-sides-w-1501028467?utm_campaign=socialflow_gizmodo_facebook&utm_source=gizmodo_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow

"This is bad news. The ruling basically opens the door for companies like Verizon and Time Warner to cut special deals with websites to serve up their content faster. It also opens up the possibility of paid access to specific sites. Imagine the worst case scenario, where you literally have to pay an extra fee to get access to the websites you like. It's possible! At least the latest federal court ruling on Verizon's appeal to the FCC states that telecom companies have to tell subscribers which sites they're favoring."

[Opethian]

if Verizon/Time Warner would lift bandwidth caps on  Im for it

[wildfruit]

Because in a free market even if you make a good profit if it wasn't more than last year/
quarter you have failed. So infinite new ways of increasing revenue will have to be thought of in perpetuity. Think how much money these companies must have spent on court case.

[TheClash603]

Sucks.

I can already imagine when we are elderly and talking about BITD when we were able to search freely on the non-government run / non-corporate owned internet.

[roflmao]

Maybe BBS's will make a comeback.

[Duo_R]

Wow I haven't heard that phrase in about 3 years lol.

STATUS: Can one of you kind folks send me your boxed PCE mouse? I just signed up for Skynet ISP, but I need a mouse for my Cyberdyne modem.

Thanks in advance.

Well just one step closer to our future distopian big brother society. Fuck corporate fascism!
