I'm thoroughly confused on RGB modding.  If I RGB mod my Super CDROM2 to 15khz RGB output, will I be able to just plug that into a Sony Vega w/ YPbPr  inputs?

ApolloBoy

RGB =/= component. You'll need to use an RGB to component converter like the CVS287 in order for you to use RGB on your TV.

hmm... this mod might be getting a bit too expensive.  or, rather, not worth the cash layout

turbokon

Turbo fan since 1991 after owning my first system.

If you want one of those schweaty, just pay Turbokon and I'll toss one into your package of parts I'm already sending.  I can get one from Turbokon at MGC.  Might save shipping one separately.

this is a good plan... i'm so stoked with all the work i get to do on my machine.  am i the only one who gets about as much satisfaction fixing and modding these things as i do playing them?  im like a mechanic nerd.

BTW - anybody know a good place to pick up composite feed through jacks?

BlueBMW

Like female to female rca plugs?

PunkCryborg

If you are planning on possibly getting a Sony PVM monitor it's nice to just do a RGB mod since you can always get a RGB to component converter if you want to hook it up to a regular tv with component

schweaty

not really female - female jacks.  the kind you install on a console for the component outputs (RCA).  maybe i'm calling them the wrong thing?

BlueBMW

Ahh panel mount jacks!  Ill look if I have any in the right colors.  I missed the post office today so if I have some I can slip them in.

are there any good RGB to component converters that will take the RGB signal with RCA jacks ?  the reason I ask is because almost everyone who contacts me for a RGB modification wants a scart cable wired up and frankly using RCA jacks would be a lot easier.

PunkCryborg

Scart is kinda like the standard connector here though in the retro gaming world. Some people make custom cables but most converters/switches for rgb out there have scart adapters already

schweaty

from what i understand, turbokons board is a component amp which is exactly what i'm looking for.  not RGB

thesteve

Yes, but you need te test your tv compatability first

BlueBMW

Plug the composite yellow cable from your console into the green port of the component in and see if you get a clear black and white picture.

way ahead of you guys.  i did the test per turbokon's TG-16/PC-E COMPONENT VIDEO
MOD INSTALL GUIDE a couple of days ago.  i got the black and white picture as described.

i am using a 1st gen plasma.  the tuner box is actually separate from the tv.  lots of different kinds of inputs.  still running strong after 10 years.

Thanks for looking out though!

The composite into component is a great test but it's not always 100 percent my friend got a duo from turbokon and even though he passed the test the 240p still had issues on his samsung so he inevitably did what any reasonable person would do and checked craigslist and got a tube tv to play his older game consoles including his duo. But the component picture was spot on so it's a catch 22 of sorts.
