Check out this auction:

The seller seems to be under the impression that this controller is for a PC Engine and "Super rare". In fact, this appears to be a fucking Gravis GamePad produced during the '90s in great quantities for home PCs.  It looks like it has either a PS/2 or Apple Desktop Bus connector and absolutely nothing to do with the PC Engine.

Seldane

That's the worst controller ever.
Quote from: Seldane on 04/21/2007, 07:28 PMDVDs are for suckers. Illegally pirated and stolen videos all the way. No menus. No "DO NOT PIRATE THIS!" screens. No fuss. Only perfection. I honestly only pirate movies because that "don't pirate this" screen annoys me.

Indeed, it's AV time. Check out: IMG! Sir, the door was open.

Haha, I used to have one of those for PC many years ago. Pretty crappy controller, but I did like how you could screw in a little joystick to the d-pad, kinda like the Master System.
Quote from: TurboXray on 01/02/2014, 09:21 PMAdding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

I wonder what makes this guy think that thing will work on a PC Engine. He even says in his description that he "tests" all hardware before sale. I'd be real interested to see him test on a PC Engine.

Nazi NecroPhile

Tee-Hee!  "Tested, and work perfectly."  - Tested on what, exactly?  Wow, you can even daisy chain another controller with this one; no need for a DuoTap.   :---)

And he doesn't even include the screw-in joystick attachment...

The only good thing Gravis ever made was the Ultrasound...

EDIT: I'm asking the seller what exactly he's trying to pull...

I THINK I had one of those pos controllers about 10 years ago.

How/why does the seller think this has anything to do with the PC-E is beyond me........

Everybody had one of those controllers 10-15 years ago. I remember when I got my first Sound Blaster (Pro) in like 1992 it came bundled with it. Like, all my friends with PCs had them too. The fucking things were so common they had to GIVE them away. "SUPER RARE" indeed.

grahf

I got a free one with the pc version of Mortal Kombat II. I didnt really mind it, I actually beat the game with it. Not that its too difficult or anything.

MrFulci

I had a Gravis Pad, the only game I recall playing with it was Commander Keen. It was bundled with the gamepad. I think i attempted to use the gamepad with other games, though it didn't do much for me with other games.
"Damnit, Beavis, put that away. You're not supposed to have your _____ out when you're cooking".

Seldane

By the way, why does that pad have a PS/2 connection? Those pads used the standard gameport. I have never seen a PC controller using PS/2, and I don't think such a thing would even work. Maybe someone modified a Gravis pad to work with the PCE or something. :P

I like your thinking, but I'm betting that nat is correct in guessing that it's ADB.

Ah of course. That would explain the extra connector on the cord as well.

That's a PS/2 passthrough port, so you can have your gamepad and your keyboard connected at the same time.

guyjin

i have one of those pads somewhere, but I've never seen one with a ps/2 output (or that's what I think it is, anyway); the guy is either confused on the difference between a pc and pc-engine, or hoping his customers are. I'm betting on the latter.

nat

I'm fairly sure it's Apple Desktop Bus (ADB). I've seen tons of ADB game controllers designed like that. I own one, in fact.

EDIT: At least no one got suckered into buying it. The auction ended with no bids.

guyjin

yay.

I hadn't considered ADB; it makes sense, since most of that stuff can daisy chain, and it's about the same size as PS/2. However, I didn't know gravis ever made apple hardware...

Kitsunexus

They actually did make a pad with ADB.

They even tormented Mac users, those scumbags. Must've been a failure. Who the hell plays games on a Mac? :P

marathon was pretty good too.

Kitsunexus

Marathon was better than DOOM, but DN3D was WAY better than Marathon, so I don't feel too bad about being a PC owner.

FWIW, Mac did get DN3D, albeit a slightly less spectacular version.
